Watching Gardeners World, what a load of complete rubbish!
What do others think please or am I just ratty?? 🥴

The front gardens in London were fantastic. I wish they had spent more time there.

I was delighted to see Margery Fish’s garden at East Lambrook Manor featured tonight. She’s my all time horticultural hero who stood up to her husband, Walter who was a bit of a bully to create the garden she wanted.
Her book, We Made a Garden is a must read for feminist gardeners!! 😂
I was there last June when it was up for sale and had a long chat with the owner who was on tonight’s episode.
It’s a magical place and I hope still well worth a visit.

We visited years ago when we spent a few days in the area visiting gardens, some larger and grander but not as lovely.

Who is Geoff Hamilton?

Churchview Sat 22-Mar-25 09:08:41

Another huge fan of Margery Fish here.

East Lambrook Manor garden is so personal and obviously the creation of someone with a passion. I could quite happily live and garden there.

Boz He was a fantastic gardener and an inspirational presenter on Gardeners World. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geoff_Hamilton

I was very shocked and saddened reading this that Geoff was only 59 when he died.

DD and I bought lottery tickets after we saw the For Sale signs. 😂

Needless to say I’m still gardening in suburbia! 😩

Monty gets a lot of his clothes from a place called Darcy’s in Lewes. They have a factory and make the clothes there . I know because my DH bought some Monty trousers and jacket there.

One of the best programmes on TV, how can it not lift the spirits? I am a keen gardener, RHS member and have an allotment. I find it informative and entertaining, I really can’t understand why people slate it especially given the amount of dross on our TV’s these days.

Ilovedogs22 Sat 22-Mar-25 14:24:48

Oh Gillycat, it used to be wonderful.
Not so much now though, too many silly ideas or just to simplistic for more experienced gardeners.
Also some if the presenters are deeply irritating, not Toby Buckland though the sun shines out of his bottom for me anyway.😙

Did his gardening improve?
I might buy some!

I saw Adam Frost give a presentation yesterday evening. He spoke for two hours or more and was fascinating, inspiring and moving in equal measures. Lots of good gardening advice and insights into his life and Gardeners World.

He's on a speaking tour at the moment I believe and I can't recommend it highly enough.

GW is a rubbish programme and I dont like M.D or anybody. It used to be better, but it turned into an agenda-driven show. M.D keeps repeating " peat free compost" .Ok Monty, we got it, peat-free. you dont need to say it 10 times we cant even purchase peat compost anyway. I was watching another presenter he said he removes aphids by hand and gives them to birds. what? Is this really your advice? Then, people who love this show wonder why their plants die on them. Well, this programme is the reason. Their advice for gardenias is that these plants degrade in 5 years, so you need to discard them. What? really. I am not that rich, and I am not interested in watching other people's gardens.

merlotgran Tue 10-Feb-26 14:59:03

Don’t bother watching it then if it’s not for you.

I stopped watching when Monty Don appeared. They get everyone to do the gardening for them and then pretend they did it! It is just designed to make you feel you're a terrible gardener even though you are doing it with no help...

That's nonsense. Monty endlessly mentions his paid help and demonstrates methods for both beginners , experienced gardeners and people on a shoestring.

Certainlty very squeaky :-)

I've really enjoyed the GW winter format. I've been a keen gardener for 60 years but GW never fails to show me some new way of doing things, plants I've not seen or tried etc.
I really like Monty; he's my kind of chap.

Gummie Tue 10-Feb-26 16:12:51

Haven't watched it since Geoffrey

I do like GW and Monty Don, but wish there were fewer garden visits and more actual gardening tips for whatever season.

I live in the south east, far away from Scotland, but find Beechgrove more practical and informative.

merlotgran Tue 10-Feb-26 18:15:45

Beechgrove is very good for practical information but it’s a half hour programme.
GW intersperses instruction and advice with the inspiration that can be gained from garden visits.
A whole hour of practical demonstrations would bore me to death.

Having lost my 13 year old Yorkshire Terrier, and have missed her terribly for the last four years, I love to tune into Gardener's World just to see if Monty's little Yorkie, Patty, is on there with him. She's so cute and he's really gentle with her 🐕❤️.

betina Wed 11-Feb-26 07:38:11

Reading the comments, I can see people who love this show, don't care about plants or gardening.
