Is that really necessary?

I always do but I’ve moved into some absolute dumps where others don’t.

I’ve cleaned every house I’ve moved into and every one I’ve moved out of and always say that those two days are when my home is at its cleanest!

I blitzed most recently mi Casa in Spain where I was shocked at the amount of dirt behind appliances etc. I thought I was the the Queen of Clean…seems I was wrong 😱

Definitely necessary. We’ve only had one move to a very dirty house, I still can’t fathom what they kept in the airing cupboard as the slats were covered in black grease. Our family seem destined to move into dirty houses and have been shocked as they have experienced (suffered!) my pre-move clean.

We moved to a new house that was absolutely filthy to the extent that the fabric lightshades were so soaked in grease from cooking that when you turned a light on the house smelled like a chip shop. The bathroom was like a dirty protest, the oven still had dirty cooking utensils in it and the dishwasher was full of lamb bones confused. The bins were all full of waste food that had been there since the previous owner moved out. There were dirty pants and socks in a bag in the airing cupboard.

The garden next door was full of drinking, swearing teenagers smoking something that you couldn't buy in the local tobacconists.

We knew immediately we would do the house up, sell as soon as possible and move on.

On day one we made a temporary home in the garage and spent the first few days tearing out carpets, scrubbing every surface and airing the place. It took 18 months to get the place square.

Yes, it is really necessary to leave a house clean, I think. On our last move our estate agent organised cleaners for us. They were there for 6 hours, and even sparkled all the windows.

I've only had one cry occasion when you walk
into a filthy house. On top of everything else, there was a poo left in the loo! 🤮 And they were people we sort of knew. 🙈

The worst was when most of our worldly goods were abandoned in Budapest. The Turkish driver had a row with his employer and just buggered off.

We are moving house on Friday, my life for months has been about packing, sorting etc.
We are now pretty much packed, the removal company come today to pack some artworks and take some boxes, the rest goes on Friday.
So the past few days I have been cleaning, all windows, cupboards, paintwork etc, then all I have to do once the house is empty is paintwork behind furniture and floors.
My husband just keeps saying “is all this necessary”?
Yes it is bloody necessary!
When we eventually move into our new home in a few weeks I hope the same will have been done for us.
In all our many moves we have only moved into one house that was filthy, I cried when we walked in, it was the days of company moves so we paid professionals and moved into an hotel.
Have you had any moving in nightmares?
