Wetherspoons wall to wall football this coming weekend

Goodness me. All Infoman is doing is giving a heads up... Please, just let him do so.
If it doesn't interest you, move on... No need to pull him up surely.

I sort of support Newcastle being born 9 miles from the city and obviously was delighted they won the League Cup, but otherwise don't bother with football in pubs. I find the pundits in particular very boring and their banal debates about an offside decision. Don't go to pubs much now anyway, so not a problem.

Good advert for Wetherspoons, if you like football but have never been.
I expect regulars will already know, so yes, keeping quiet it’s just advertising.

TBH I wouldn’t have thought that GN was exactly the perfect site for promoting Wetherspoons!

I’m sure Infoman was trying to inform any regulars who aren’t football fans, that it might be a good time to go elsewhere.

And even in a pub I would not expect to find a TV in anywhere but the public bar which is not where you’d be serving lunch.

With it being Mothers day,or is it Mothering Sunday,not sure which is now the correct term this coming Sunday.How would you feel if you took your Mum out for a meal and thought you were going into a dog free pub(Wetherspoons) and ended up in amongst a large amount of football followers?
Don't forget the clocks spring forward this Sunday,so one less hour to finalise your plans for Mum's day out.

I’m a bit baffled (NB not wound up, pouncing, objecting or grumpy
) because I didn’t think Wetherspoons showed sports, apart from major events like the Olympics.

So is infoman telling us where we can go to avoid the football?

I was the first to post, and can assure you that I wasn't 'wound up', pouncing, objecting or grumpy.

I'm feeling grumpy now, at having to justify a perfectly innocent post which simply asked why people who don't like football would want to know that it is playing in Wetherspoons.

What about people who prefer to spend weekends in other pub chains? Are we going to get updates on whether the darts will be showing in Greene King establishments, or rugby in Fuller's?

Well, we are not ‘regulars’, but visit our local Wetherspoons every now and again and wouldn’t have a clue whether football was on offer or not. I’m sure the advanced warning will be appreciated by other people like us!

Fair enough. But just as people can 'scroll on' rather than asking a question, punters can leave a pub and go elsewhere if they find there is a match showing when they get there.

It's not somewhere I visit, but I'm sure they will have posters or leaflets about it. Of course I could scroll past, but I wanted to know what the point of the thread was meant to be. Not criticising, just asking.

Also, telling people something framed as 'in case they don't want it' is absolutely a form of advertising. It's no different from saying that delicious cream cakes are available at half price at Gail's and saying the 'information' is being given to those who might want to avoid it as they are fattening.

As soon as he posts there are usually several posts in quick succession telling him it’s of no interest. I can never fathom why posters feel the urge to come on a thread that’s of no interest just to make a negative comment 🤷‍♀️

Was just about to post the same regarding it being useful to know if you were planning to go to one whilst football is on.
