Miss Mander head of Eastleigh primary school has cancelled the Easter Service and Easter bonnet parade at a primary school. She thinks it's not inclusive? It's all over the press if you Google her name. What do others think?

I hope they feel very proud of themselves, intimidating children and forcing them to miss their end of term performance.

Jesus said "Suffer the little children to come unto me"
Christian these people are not.

I think the Easter bonnet parade was just fun everyone could join in, I don't think it had anything to do with inclusivity. I disagree with her cancelling, however I don't think the Christian group have behaved very well either. They came over as aggresive.

The Christian group

Yes they have the right to protest, I totally agree, but not imo the banner naming the headteacher and saying she should be "Cancelled".

The police did very well containing it and keeping it low key as there were arguments with parents.

The children missed their afternoon play outside and a parent said " the protest has meant that the pupils cannot attend a choir performance being held by their peers at The Point, as teachers do not want to walk them past the protest"

It doesn't matter if they are local though, they have the right to protest.

Yes.

Fits in with the activities of these "Christian Nationalists" and Nick Tenconi. Googling him is informative.

I hope they got moved on, thats not acceptable next to a school nor a school and is hatred against the head

Is there a report anywhere of what happened?

This is the report of what happened today at the school. It incudes more photographs that give a clear idea of the nature of the protests and also - that parents turned out against them and praised the headteacher. This was not a local group protesting.

Todays ‘demo’ including a UKIP spokesman Nick Tenconi with a large wooden spoon for stirring.

He's a self-professed "Christian Nationalist".

A contradiction in terms if ever there was.

They are a political and social movement strong in the USA and some coming over here.

Perhaps we should deport them - isn't that the American way?

I wasn't directing it at you Jaxjackysmile, just pointing out that there was lots of support for the rights of the 'Quaker' protest so this little gang have the same rights. I think both groups are muppets but I support their right to protest.

Jaxjacky Thu 03-Apr-25 15:20:57

I’m not denying them their rights at all Galaxy I was merely illustrating the actual protest referred to earlier in this thread.

Galaxy Thu 03-Apr-25 15:00:32

But I am afraid if you believe in the right to protest then they have the right to do this, same as those organising their protest in the Quaker meeting room.

Well, the political connections say it all really. Inappropriate for a school and the numbers reflect this.

jaxjackyI googled it and found a local pastor had asked them in advance not to do it

Allira -
In mentioning an event that reduced ne to tears - I was in no way making a derogatory remark on your mental capacity !

Esmay Mon 31-Mar-25 09:20:25

Alllira -

I was referring to Miss Mander and the school and not to your mother's singing voice .
It's commendable that you defend her .
I wouldn't dream of making rude comments about your mother !
A year ago , a member of my church made a comment about my mother being antisocial and reclusive .
I was upset at the time , but this lady didn't know that my mother suffered from PTSD and had a very difficult time with any duscord at social occasions .
I thought of saying something ,but suspected that this lady had some degree of dementia .
She's passed and it was a contributory cause so I'm glad that I said nothing .

Was the final paragraph a direct quote from Miss Mander's letter, or a report from one of the newspapers, because I have read it before? Very foolish of her to include direct reference to a possible protest if it does form part of her letter.

Allira Sat 29-Mar-25 12:49:26

Oh 🙂

The post was directly after mine, and I thought Esmay was referring to those who were trying to lighten the thread!!

Those so-called Christian activists are not behaving in a very Christian manner, frightening and intimidating staff and pupils. Even if we think Miss Mander's letter was wrong, and she is trying to justify herself now for her actions, there is no need for protests and intimidation.

More nonsense .

I can assure you that my mother had a wonderful voice.

I don't think Esmay was referring to you Allira.. but to the behaviour of Miss Mander..and I completely agree with her..

Quote local paper

‘The headteacher of Norwood Primary School has written to parents to confirm that Easter is being marked at the school, following days of controversy and national media attention over the decision not to hold a ‘traditional’ Easter bonnet parade or attend a church service this year.

In a new letter to families, Miss Mander said children would continue learning about Easter and taking part in seasonal activities across the term.

“To be clear, we are marking Easter in school,” she wrote. “Children continue to learn about and celebrate Easter both educationally in our R.E. lessons and in our assemblies across the whole half term. Children will also continue to take part in much-enjoyed Easter craft activities as we approach the end of the term.”

She thanked parents who had sent messages of support and said these reflected the school’s strong community spirit.

The head also acknowledged concerns about planned protest activity and confirmed that the school is working with the police to monitor the situation. A Christian activist group, which has accused the school of attacking Christianity, has threatened “direct action” in response to the decision to drop the Easter bonnet parade and church visit this year.’
