soop has been in touch. She will not be on GN today, I think, as she is unwell. Please carry on your usual kind chatting. soop was saying yesterday what lovely people you all are.

Me Blossoming! The ‘choose file’ option was in place but it would not send.

P.s. it was a photo of the first rose on the shrub in a pot at our front door. We bought it in November to commemorate our golden wedding anniversary. When we put the key in the door as we got home there was a bee nestling in the petals. It made me smile thinking how karma would be pleased!

Glad that Himself will be getting nourishment when he is finding it difficult to swallow.
From the treatment being offered by Oncology at the excellent Christie hospital you can be assured everything will be done to help DH, to set a new treatment plan and give you both faith and gain support.
It’s a worrying hurdle , but you can overcome it fgt .

GrandmaC47 Mon 12-May-25 21:01:57

Fgt glad your dh is getting such good treatment from the NHS.
Well, today is the end of an era. We sold our car today. It will be the first time since 1968 that I’ve not had a car available. Some mixed feelings, but on the whole it’s the best decision. Just 10 years ago I thought nothing of driving alone from Co Durham to Preston, but since the COVID lockdowns I couldn’t drive anywhere outside of our village and dh can no longer drive due to leg problems.
Never mind, I’m off to see my sister on Thursday and the forecast in the west is better than here. As my hand is still swollen and sore, I will arrange assistance on the train with my suitcase.
I’ll go back and read your post properly, I was looking for Fgt posting so skipped a few.
Have a good evening everyone.

We had an April showers sort of day here, one minute raining - and thundering - then 20 mins later we were sitting back in the sun with it blazing down on our shoulders.
It was nice to eat lunch outside, salad and quiche not a BBQ.
Best wishes to the lovely soops and hope that they have an inspiring, colourful sunset over the water tonight. Nature is splendid in all it’s forms.

FGT2 - I’m glad to hear that you’re having such good service (if that’s the right word) at the hospital. 🪻🪻🪻

brook2704 Mon 12-May-25 21:33:39

Good to hear that everything is being done fgt hope things improve again soon 💐

The end of an era GrandmaC47 but hoping you adjust well to new ways of travelling, take care and enjoy visiting your sister

kittylester Mon 12-May-25 21:39:20

Thank you for the update FGT. Really pleased to hear that the NHS is being it"s best self for himself.

I hope GBatty got on OK today and that everyone else is doing well. I'm sorry but my recall is shot today.

Thank you for all your kind comments about DS1 and his meds. He is nearly back to normal.

Jaxjacky Mon 12-May-25 22:25:42

Hi all, a busy quiz, we were pipped at the post, I was rushing to get there as I was dropping a friend at Southampton airport.
We’ve had cloud for most of the day and a feeble amount of rain, the voluntary phone had lots of odd calls, few actually requests for lifts.
I imagine you both feel more comfortable FGT now things are happening and from the people you trust.
I hope Grandmabatty’s op went ok and she’s resting.
Sounds great Blossoming particularly as you had sunshine.
Big decision GrandmaC47 but right for you, I hope your hand improves soon.

LizzieDrip Mon 12-May-25 22:40:30

FGT pleased to hear the NHS is taking good care of your DH. Christie’s is a truly wonderful hospital isn’t it.

Good luck for the rest of the weekflowers

cornergran Mon 12-May-25 22:50:25

Thank you for the update fgt. Good care for sure.

Hope all went to plan for grandmab today.

Sleep well everyone.

SueDonim Mon 12-May-25 23:33:39

FGT just wanted to say that I’m glad your dh is getting such good care.

No time for more but TOYA. XXX

Naughtyneine Tue 13-May-25 08:29:24

FGT2...that all sounds very comprehensive and efficient which I would think is just what you and himself need just now. I will be thinking of you both this week. ♥️

Hoping too that GrandmaB' s op went well yesterday.

Blossoming...it's so lovely to read that you out and about and improving each day.

Brook... I'm so glad that all went well with DDs move...

It's a very brief visit to the kitchen as I'm still getting over a an eventful day yesterday...I want to put traumatic but in comparison to what some of you are going through it wasn't.
I was driving on the motorway when I got a call from the venue for the wedding reception to say that they were leaving and they couldn't confirm whether they would have left before June 28th or whether the new owners would be in by then or if they were whether they would keep the booking. (Accomodation as well). The shock was such that although it hasn't happened for a long while I couldn't speak coherently and started to stutter badly and shake. She wanted me to pull onto the hard shoulder but I have a fear of being hit so just kept going to the next junction. She then told me that she would call me /us as soon as she had any news. I managed to text DH who then called but couldn't make out what I was trying to say and thought I'd had an accident. By this point my heart had gone into overdrive too and try as I might I couldn't stop thinking about where on earth we could find a venue to cater for 80 sit down guests and a further 40 evening guests and accomodation for 14. Yesterday afternoon passed in a blur of looking at places on line and finding of course they were booked, marquee hire ( for field next door) and caterers ( last resort due to age of some guests). I found one I liked but it was closed on Mondays so I emailed them half heartedly explaining our situation etc. 5 minutes late DH called to say he'd found a place and emailed them as they were closed on Monday. It turns out we'd both emailed the same venue ( Luckily he's sent his from our wedding email address and they put 2 and 2 together). Two hours later we got a reply saying that they had a small birthday party booked that day but they would ask the people if they would be happy with the other event room.....as it's turned out that were thinking of cancelling the party due to family illness and were more than happy to let us have wedding event room. We went down last evening and it's just lovely.... Set in a pretty village in glorious countryside but easily accessed from the church.... I know they say that blessings in disguise happen but this really is.... They don't do accomodation but there is an Airbnb less than 5 minutes away various types of accommodation. So today I am resending the invitations with the new details and trying to find my equilibrium.

Glad Cristie is on the ball Fgt . Best that's a big relief
Naughtyneine sounds a lovely venue you have managed to book.
GrandmaC4 I f we had better local bus and train services we would give up our car .We like travelling by train but it's so expensive!
We are waiting for broadband company to arrive ,we always seem to be last on list 😏

Redcar Tue 13-May-25 10:56:04

neine how stressful for you, it must have been such a shock. What a relief that you have managed to find another venue able to accommodate you.
I’ve just walked round the village to post a letter, it’s a long walk for me, about a mile, which I know is nothing to many of you. Realised when I got home that the letter was still in my bag! I’d walked passed the postbox but was obviously thinking of something else. It’s too warm to walk round again, so will do it tomorrow.
fgt I’m pleased your DH is receiving such good treatment from the Christie. Fingers crossed that this isn’t a major problem.
Have a good day gransnetters.

Grandmabatty Tue 13-May-25 11:02:11

FGT I'm glad that Christie's are being so helpful. I won't say, don't worry, because you will anyway. Fingers crossed it is a temporary blip.
My cataract op went well. I can watch tv without glasses for the first time in 57 years! My pupil is still dilated so the light is much too bright, but sunglasses help.
Cornergran I'm being very well behaved. I'm doing a lot of sitting down. ☺️ I have done the dishes, made the bed and hoovered the living room (all the dust I now can see) but that's all. Have a good day all

GrandmaC47 Tue 13-May-25 11:18:52

Neine, so stressful for you but the new venue sounds delightful. Hulahoop, we are fortunate that our village has doctors, dentists, opticians, a Sainsbury’s and Co-oP within a 10 minute walk. Although some of our buses have been lost we can reach most of our large towns and cities and three retail parks by bus, albeit it takes two hours 😀. Of course it’s free using our bus passes. The senior railcard is a big saving , I’ve just booked a 1st class return to Edinburgh for only £65. Of course we’re fortunate to have two daughters within 10 minutes who are happy to help as and when.
Grandmabatty I’m pleased your procedure went well.
Redcar, I did exactly that last week nut I had to walk back as it was an important letter. At least it upped my step count!

Grandmabatty Tue 13-May-25 12:05:19

I've just seen the state of my kitchen cupboard doors! 😱 I hadn't realised how bad my eyesight was. It crept up on me

Jaxjacky Tue 13-May-25 12:26:04

Sit you right back down Grandmabatty today is not the day to tackle them, you’re supposed to be resting.
Good grief neine what a shock, well recovered, I’ll bet your new venue is even better.
I can’t settle today, flitting about - dentist tomorrow and I know it’s going to be negative news on my lousy teeth, I know it’s nothing compared to others, it just feels big to me.

TillyTrotter Tue 13-May-25 16:12:03

Good to hear all went well with the cataract surgery yesterday grandmabatty but please don’t overdo things 💐

Grandmabatty Tue 13-May-25 17:41:42

I'm being careful, I promise ladies. Lots of rest and sitting about.

brook2704 Tue 13-May-25 18:51:52

Hi kitchen pals, it’s been quite a cold day up here in Inverness, the sea haar has lingered all day keeping the temperature down. But I’ve had an enjoyable day, I went to the gym for an aerobics class and then a volunteering session this afternoon.
Good to hear you’re doing so well grandmabatty, early days yet
Yikes neine you could do without the hassle but pleased all sorted now, the new venue sounds ideal
Easily done Redcar when you’re out and about enjoying a walk
It’ll all be over by this time tomorrow Jax, so try not to worry, you’ll feel so much better when it’s done 🥰
Hope you’re doing ok SueD 💐
Thinking of everyone in the quiet corner, take care all

GrannyGravy13 Tue 13-May-25 18:56:32

Good evening from a very quiet Gravy Grange DH is out to dinner with his pals. I am just waiting for a quiche to finish baking I will have it with salad.

Oh dear naughtyneine what a shock, pleased you have found an alternative venue.

Grandmabatty please do not rush things, you need time to heal.

(((Hugs))) to all, night night 🙋‍♀️

Nannytopsy Tue 13-May-25 20:27:23

Evening! I have done some ironing and then we went to Aldi, mostly to stock up on wine for a family weekend. I have made a cherry and almond loaf cake. 110 cake will be a lemon drizzle loaf, said cherry loaf and a chocolate cake for the zero. 40 years ago DS was about to be induced and DH was home alone for his 30th birthday!
I keep finding that I still stand with my new knee locked back, which is not ideal. I have to concentrate on standing properly.
Sleep well everyone xx

Georgesgran Tue 13-May-25 21:09:14

Not sure if FGT is reading, (and I know himself isn’t in the Christie and that they get a lift there) but DH was often unexpectedly admitted to The Freeman at his regular appointments, if his bloods weren’t right. His consultant told me to pack him a hospital bag and keep it in the car, just in case, which saved me rushing back home to get stuff, leaving him on his own, waiting for a bed.

neine something similar happened to us. In ‘72, we’d booked to be the first wedding reception at the newly renovated Royal County Hotel in Durham - just a walk along from the Registrar’s Office. Then in the late July, I got a
curt, abrupt call at work saying the work had over-run, the opening was delayed and we’d have to find somewhere else! In addition, the garage let us down with the cars, but I managed to hire 2 black Rolls Royces from an undertaker in Hartlepool!

Hope everyone has a peaceful night. X

Hellogirl1 Tue 13-May-25 21:47:17

We had undertakers cars for 2 of our childrens` weddings. The drivers were kitted out in smart uniforms, and the cars were ultra comfy.
