soop has been in touch. She will not be on GN today, I think, as she is unwell. Please carry on your usual kind chatting. soop was saying yesterday what lovely people you all are.

Georgesgran, you sparked a memory. In 1971 my sister was married in Elvet Methodist church opposite the County Hotel and the reception was at the hotel round the corner ( the Three Tuns I think it was called). 😀

Georgesgran Tue 13-May-25 22:00:38

Yes - it and The County were both part of the Vaux group. When Marriott bought out Vaux they didn’t want the Tuns and it fell into disrepair. However, because of the need for high quality student accommodation in the City, it got a new lease of life having been converted to provide that.

We struggled to find somewhere local for our reception and ended up at The Redhills, now long gone.

Hello kitchen people.

Glad your wedding is sorted N! Many years ago my sister flew over from Australia to be married. Mum and I sorted out most of the arrangements including booking a hotel in the village for the reception. Three days before the wedding, the hotel bottled out and said they couldn’t cope with the numbers. So mum, who was the village postmistress, put the word out and very soon there were offers to supply food and it turned out the village hall was free to use by villagers. All was well.

I had a good afternoon with friends this afternoon. When I got home I made a delicious macaroni and bacon cheese. It is one of OH’s favourite meals.

I think the FGT2S are back at the hospital tomorrow. I am wishing them well.

Sleep 💤 tight.

Hellogirl1 - the Rollers were from a company called Masons and had a big gold script M on the driver’s door. Perfect, as DH’s name began with an M - as if we’d arranged it intentionally.

Redcar Tue 13-May-25 22:12:54

jaxjacky I hope the dentist isn’t as bad as you fear. I’ve got lousy teeth too, courtesy of my godmother who worked for the ministry of supply just after the war and kept my mum supplied with lots of bottles of concentrated orange juice and jars of yummy malt! I used to eat the malt neat out of the jar by the spoonful!

GrandmaC47 Tue 13-May-25 22:49:50

Georgesgran, I spent 8 years going to Durham city everyday a long time ago. Many happy memories. Studio Two, The Market Tavern and The Garden House.
We had our reception at the Eden Arms, a landmark building on the old A1.
Bet you remember The Cock of the North, another landmark building.
Now I’m wallowing in nostalgia 😂

cornergran Tue 13-May-25 22:57:27

My teeth are weak jax. Dental appointments are a biggie for sure. I’ve got one next week when the dentist will discover a hole that feels huge in one of my teeth. A piece left me about 6 weeks ago. It doesn’t hurt so I’ve ignored it. I am already hearing the lecture, the noise of the drill and the scream from my credit card. Seriously hope your appointment is much easier than you fear.

Goodness neine that must have been a heck of a shock. Your new venue sounds wonderful, the right place for happy memories.

I’d not call todays activities behaving grandmab! Please don’t be over enthusiastic and spoil the surgeons excellent work. I’m very pleased your surgery has been so successful.

I’ve been buried in photo sorting this afternoon. Seriously tired of it now, just another another two and a half years to go and I’m up to date. As I began in 1975 I should be pleased with myself rather than irritated because I’ve not finished. Notice the should grin.

The only cousin who is close enough to meet called this morning to arrange a get together later in the summer. She tells us where to be and we turn up! She’s definitely her mothers daughter, my Aunt was a very clear, determined woman.

We’re off meeting good friends tomorrow, a little wandering and a lot of chatting. It will be a good day.

Night, night everyone sleep well.

hollysteers Tue 13-May-25 23:18:57

Jaxjacky thinking of you and your nashers. I’ve just finished a course of antibiotics after extraction of broken tooth with abscess and have had lots of trouble for months.
Fingers crossed that’s the end and all the best to you.
It’s not pleasant I know 💐

Nannytopsy Wed 14-May-25 05:55:37

Good luck Jax. I am another with poor teeth. Lots of fillings and crowns and now a pair of implants. You have my sympathy.

Grandmabatty Wed 14-May-25 08:36:09

Good luck with the dentist Jaxjacky.

Jaxjacky Wed 14-May-25 09:05:06

Good afternoon dear Kitcheners. I was having problems with GNet yesterday, not just posting photos but being logged out and posts going missing. All seems to have settled down now but once again I’m behind with all your news., unless it’s also posted in the Good Morning thread.

Pleased your cataract surgery has had such positive results Grandmabatty.

Hope your dentist appointment goes smoothly Jaxjacky.

Keeping my fingers crossed for FGT2 and her DH.

Finally, here are a few photos from Monday’s trip to Lytham.

Blossoming Wed 14-May-25 12:25:55

Crossed posts YiaYia, gorgeous pics x

Hellogirl1 Wed 14-May-25 13:56:11

YiaYia, beautiful pics, hope you have a wonderful time.
Blossoming, it`s many, many years since I visited Lytham, your pics are lovely.

Yiayia4 Wed 14-May-25 14:50:00

Your looking great Blossoming and lovely pics.

Redcar Wed 14-May-25 15:53:21

Lovely photos yiayia and blossoming. blossoming you’re doing really well with your rollator, was it hard to push on the sand?
jaxjacky I hope the dentist wasn’t too bad?
hollysteers I hope your tooth problems have eased now and that you have a good holiday.
I’ve been busy in the garden, planted some dwarf bean seeds, tipped out a large pot of compost the get rid of all the vine weevil larvae, repotted a witch hazel, it really needs to go in the garden but I can’t dig a hole. DD2 said she’d dig the hole when I’ve decided where to put it! I need to clear a space first.
The skip was taken away this morning and I cut the grass around where it had been.
I hope the fgts visit to the Christie has been encouraging and that mrfgt didn’t find the procedure too unpleasant.

Enjoy the rest of the day folks.

Blossoming Wed 14-May-25 16:35:27

We didn’t get onto the beach proper Redcar, that’s just where the sand has blown onto the path. The walker wasn’t too happy being pushed through it but I managed!

Jaxjacky Wed 14-May-25 18:41:42

Hi all, the dentist conformed, two more molars to come out, a history of gum disease with no hygienist (thanks NHS) and my lack of education has contributed, I’ll mull over the options.
Beautiful pictures Yiayia and Blossoming blue skies in both!
I collected my ordered sandals, very comfortable, nails being varnished tomorrow - wait for the weather to turn 🙂
I’ve so many peony buds poised to blossom, they will be glorious, I’ll post a picture and hope for no wind.
I hope FGT and himself have had a productive day with minimum discomfort for him.
Off to think about dinner - an easy quiche is calling, sadly not homemade.
Enjoy your evening all

brook2704 Wed 14-May-25 19:11:52

Gorgeous pictures Blossoming and Yia, thanks for sharing
I’ve been a lovely sunny day here but with a very cold wind. I enjoyed the Zumba class at the gym and then walked back into town by the river. I sat outside with a coffee for a while, had a browse around the shops and then got the bus home. Perfect.
A quick and easy dinner of pasta and salad in a few mins, we’ll sit in the conservatory and look at the garden planning the next project!
At least your appointment is over with now Jax and you know what needs to be done and your options
Hoping all has gone well today for fgt’s DH
Thinking of everyone in the quiet corner, take care all x

Scapa1 Wed 14-May-25 21:24:35

Photos of the swans with the cygnets we hoped to see the other day. Unfortunately a heron has its eyes on them! Finally finished planting my bedding plants this morning hope I can keep them alive with this warm weather. Thoughts withFGT and her DH for a favorable outcome tomorrow.

Ladyleftfieldlover Wed 14-May-25 22:41:33

Hello kitchen people.

There are some beautiful photos on here today,

We had a good lunch with old friends today. Sadly the husband is very frail and OH is worried about him. They first met when working in the Middle East over 40 years ago.

I went to the Local History Society’s talk on Blenheim this evening. It was good.

I think the FGT2S have another hospital appointment tomorrow, which I hope will be positive,

Sleep 💤 tight.

Grannmarie Thu 15-May-25 10:55:47

Good morning, Soop and lovely Kitchen people.

I'm just popping in to say that I'm thinking of you all, especially FGTs today, sending love and prayers. 💕🙏

I had another massage at the surgery yesterday, quite sore at the time but I slept for hours afterwards!

Lots of beautiful photos!

Wishing everyone a peaceful Thursday. TOYA

Grandmabatty Thu 15-May-25 11:14:11

Good morning kitchen folk. It's a beautiful morning here in central Scotland. Grannmarie I'm glad the massage helped you to sleep. Scapa I love the swans. Is that Stirling uni? Yiayia gorgeous photos of a lovely place. Blossoming lovely photos too.
I've slightly overdone things this morning, so I'm taking the rest of the day very easy. Cornergran won't be pleased with me! Washed dishes, did a wash and hung it out and hoovered. It made me feel slightly wobbly so resting from now on.

vintage1950 Thu 15-May-25 13:02:06

flowers to FGT and Soop and anybody else who is going through a difficult time.
