What's wrong with being a Sainbury's Shopper?

I am doomed

I shop between Aldi, M & S, Sainsbury’s in store and Waitrose for delivery!

I use Sainsburys as my store of choice. I find the quality good, and the store is huge. They have a restaurant with concessions, a large clothing department, a homeware section and like many stores now a Argos in it.

People talk rubbish sometimes about people's personal preferences. I have been told I must have plenty of money as I also do a very small shop in Waitrose, there are a couple of things I like.

There's an Ocado advert on tv currently which discusses supermarket snobbery.
I don't think Sainsburys is posh. I'd say average.

According to Which, based on a basket of 100 goods surveyed in February 2025, Sainsbury's (with Nectar) cost £213.46 and Aldi £182.64. Waitrose was £245.79.

Never heard that said about Sainsbury’s , thought it was the same as Tesco etc . Waitrose is the only one I’ve heard it said about.

"Overheard in Waitrose" has its own Facebook page 😂

I used to always shop at Sainsbury's as it was the nearest big supermarket (only 17 miles away) but others have opened since then which are nearer.

It's just middle-of-the-road supermarket!

I have used Sainsbury’s for more years than I care to remember.
My H and I went every Friday morning for a big shop and then I would nip in mid week for top ups.
Since he became ill and then housebound I have had deliveries weekly and still do after he died.
I seldom have any issues, decent quality ,fair prices and have never once been let down with delivery.
I am happy and won’t change.

I can’t say I’ve heard that - I like Sainsburys better than the other major supermarkets, as it’s very good for gluten free. I think a lot more people shop in Lidl and Aldi now though, so I suppose it is more expensive than they are, maybe that’s what was meant?

Oh, and of all of the available options I prefer Lidl for bakery products and fresh fruit.

No. I use Sainsbury's (for deliveries) and don't have more money than sense - IMO anyway grin. Others may take a different view of how much sense I display.

I use to use Tesco as they were the first to offer delivery in my area about 25 years ago. I changed to Sainsbury's as there is no Tesco near where we shop when we visit our lodge, and I was running 2 points cards, so I decided to amalgamate and switch to Sainsbury's for both. I didn't notice a difference in price or quality - they are much of a muchness.

If I run out of supplies, my husband tops up from Morrisons as that is the local supermarket. Again, pricewise it is similar, but they don't have the range of either Sainsbury's or Tesco. If I am in the town centre I use M&S, which has a better choice of ready to cook things, but is a small branch so I wouldn't do a week's shop there.

I don't see Sainsbury's as a fancy store - just a standard supermarket.

To be honest I’ve usually heard that phrase attributed to Waitrose.

I don't think anyone I know well would sneer at another person's choice of supermarket. It's either snobbery or inverted snobbery - their money, their choice.

A few times lately I have heard people say 'oh they shop in Sainsbury's' used in a dismissive way as though the person has more money than sense.

Is that how other grans see it?
