Some flowers just don't last well once they’re cut, even from your own garden, and roses aren’t even in season perhaps suggest a potted plant, garden plant, chocolates or wine.
The best ones I’ve had this year were from Cornwall, locally grown.

I sorted through my Mothering Sunday flowers just this weekend - sadly the tulips and roses had to be composted but the carnations and chrysanthemums are still going strong.

If I ever get carnations with a leafy side-shoot on the stems I pluck these off and let them root before potting on.......got to love a freeby!

I was extremely lucky with the flowers I received for Mother's Day this year and am just going to start 'weeding' them out today. In one, the tulips came with bulbs attached - which I've never had before - along with a brown bag and instructions for drying them and when to plant them out. I shall follow that to the letter - wouldn't it be glorious if they bloomed again next Spring!

I sound ungrateful, but my late friend's husband who I keep in touch with, sends me a probably expensive bouquet containing flowers which hardly last (and in colours I dont particularly like) together with a lot (too much) of greenery. I would hate to upset him, as I know he gets a lot of pleasure from sending them, and say please don't send anymore. Difficult isnt it. So I am grateful for the thought, but not the actual flowers.
One friend sent me a bunch and did ask whst they were like. They were very poor and she was pleased I told her the truth so then she wouldnt use the same company again. She also sent fruit to another friend. I think MS and that was poor as well.

Had to sort through my two bouquets that I received for Mothers Day and throw half of them away. I do love fresh flowers but hate my sons wasting their money. I always tell them to try and get chrysanths or carnations that will last a while. All the roses I threw away were from M & S who I've had to complain to before. ðŸ˜
