She’s just good for him,” says one friend now, repeating the refrain of many. “She brightens his life, doesn’t she?

“They make each other laugh. And thank God for that – they’ve needed it recently.”

Congratulations to them both today!
The pic was taken yesterday, in Rome.

You're right Annie, as I said, luckily no social media!! In that mix of course there was always Princess Margaret right from the Townsend affair, which was actually very sad, till the end of her life! The abdication was before my time, as was the late Duke of Kent being rumoured as being bisexual! Bit like a normal family really!!!!

Anniebach Thu 10-Apr-25 16:16:53

Rumours about the late Queen and Lord Porchester were in the papers , many photographs of Porchy and Andrew

Oh come on! I'm old enough to remember the death.of George V1th, just! I certainly remember the Queens coronation quite vividly and the rest of her reign. Luckily, particularly for Prince Philip, social media did not exist, and the press were far more respectful, otherwise the rose coloured glasses that people clearly see both of them through would have been very tarnished. The Profumo affair, certain actresses, times away?..Rumour certainly followed P.P! Even rumours about Prince Andrews parentage, all rumours, but quite damaging at the time. Even Diana's death caused worry that the Queen would be booed! Of course latterly, they were, like the Queen Mother, (?) a dear old cozy couple, which of course they were. But they weren't always snowy white that's for sure! But we loved them warts and all, as.most of us now do Charles and Camilla.

Nanato3 you have no problem with the affairs Diana had yet
condemn Camilla for one affair . What of the wives of Diana’s
lovers ?
Diana was driven to it by Charles not giving up Camilla after their marriage.
The monarch should be above reproach, he's head of the church, but he changed the rules to suit himself .

Don't want to carry this on but there will never be another Queen like our beautiful Queen Elizabeth .
It's childish picking on posts that don't agree with your point of view. If you don't like it scroll on by .

I am not picking on posts I don’t agree with. you condemn
Camilla for an affair but so sympathetic to Diana who had several affairs , I ask what you think of the wives of the men she
had affairs with.

Crosstichfan Queen Elizabeth was of her time, but now gone, Charles is of his and making steady changes to the royal household, much needed.
Everything changes and modernises as time moves on, I'm pleased William and Catherine will continue adapting and living as a family looking forwards, not backwards.

Diana knew she had to keep herself tidy, so all the women Charles dated hopefully didn’t ride horses, play hockey etc

Oh do elaborate Anniebach please?

I’m all agog! 😂

Am following the king and queen here on Italian TV. Italy is totally charmed by King Charles: his attempts to make speeches partly in Italian and his humourous quips are much appreciated, as is his total charm. Camilla also approved of more than in the past. She is considered much better groomed now. However, Italy's first love has always been Diana.

I really don’t care

I can't understand why people wish that William and Catherine were on the throne?! Charles and Camilla are a brilliant couple, tailor made for the job. W & C have a young family whom they want to be brought up as normally as possible, and, as William apparently said, don't want the job until the appropriate time. You can't make them!! Andrew P-B was a serial philanderer, and made Camilla extremely unhappy, she would have left him anyway. Charles and Diana sadly also made each other extremely unhappy and would in all probability separated anyway. Diana had many affairs after marriage, Charles and Camilla? just each other. Surely no one can wag a moralising finger at two people rekindling a former love, eventually, against all the odds, marrying and, staying together for 20 years
without a breath of scandal? I can't believe that anyone could be that bigoted!

Charles and Camilla didn't rekindle a love , they never stopped seeing each other all through his marriage to Diana.
Two selfish people who have caused misery to others but didn't care . Diana was used just to produce the next heir's . No wonder she had affairs. Charles should never have married her .

No Nanato3, you are wrong.

Her title was changed from ‘Queen Consort’ to ‘Queen’ around the time of the Coronation.

So she is ‘The Queen’ or ‘Queen Camilla’.

Take your pick.

smile

The late Queen Elizabeth's wish was that camilla be known as
Queen Consort and that was agreed on .
Nevertheless it doesn't matter what's she's called I don't look on her has my Queen, neither do a great many other people. It's a pity Charles took the throne and didn't abdicate and let William and Kate become King and Queen.
This is my opinion . What happened to free speech!

I absolutely HATE the idea of Catherine becoming queen. She may be beautiful, intelligent etc. etc. but she will never be the queen that Queen Elizabeth was. Our Queen had a grace and regal bearing that non-royals can never emulate, least of all Catherine.
No, Catherine will never be my queen, no-one can replace the one and only!

Anniebach Thu 10-Apr-25 14:59:24

What rubbish ‘Camilla had a past’, Sarah Spencer 6 years older than Diana , Amanda Knatchbull, both dated Charles.
Diana knew she had to keep herself tidy, so all the women Charles dated hopefully didn’t ride horses, play hockey etc

The world has forgotten Kanga

Mollygo Thu 10-Apr-25 14:57:12

It’s quite funny to hear posters saying not my Queen or should be Queen Consort.

Like my sister’s MIL saying my sister couldn’t be Mrs XYZ until after MIL’s death.
Petty in the extreme, and no one cared except her MIL, who brought it up on every possible occasion.

Ladyleftfieldlover Thu 10-Apr-25 14:55:58

Just repeating in words of one syllable! Ladies who marry a King are Queen Consort, for example - Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, Queen Mary and Queen Alexandra. None were Queen in their own right . It would be too much of a mouthful to refer to them as say, Queen Consort Mary. One day, Katherine will be known as Queen Katherine. Will everyone run around saying she is Queen Consort not Queen? Interestingly Prince Albert was referred to as Prince Consort but not Prince Philip.

I suppose Camilla was a bit stumped as to what to say when asked about the secret of a happy marriage! Neither of them have good form for the subject .

Do you think this of every second marriage?

karmalady Thu 10-Apr-25 13:57:05

congratulations to them both. A lovely devoted and happy couple

Congratulations to them both, I can only admire the energy they manage to summon up.

Jaxjacky Thu 10-Apr-25 09:00:27

Journalist to Camilla yesterday ‘do you thing the King should slow down?’ her reply ‘dream on’ - made me laugh 🙂

Pleased to see our King and Queen celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary. Welcomed in Italy, spoke to the parliament in Italian. An asset to this country. Pity the mealy mouthed journo on CNN, in a world where some sunshine is needed, he bad mouthed the event, wonder if he would say that about any other state visit. John miserable Bolton was also dismissive. What has it got to do with them anyway.

I'm in France where the news is loving it that Prince William was in Paris to watch PSG v Aston Villa last night. His father must be pleased that his son appeals so much to younger generations.

It's a pity Charles took the throne and didn't abdicate and let William and Kate become King and Queen.
They have a young family and it would have been unfair to expect them to take on this responsibility. The late Queen became monarch when she was very young and this prevented her from spending very much time with her young family. I’m sure that Charles would not have wanted that for William and Catherine, nor would they have agreed to it.

Here's to another twenty years of happiness together. Long live the King and Queen. I like them both immensely.
