If you were going to emigrate, which country would you choose ?

Of course most wouldn’t want to and it may not be possible but where would you go ?
I was thinking New Zealand or Canada. New Zealand because they are 10 years back in the way they live compared with here ( better ) and Canada for its beauty and the people seem to be very similar in attitude.

Australia definitely

We chose to emigrate to Canada in 1986 for my husbands job, best decision ever.

Australia is great but not as great as it used to be when we came. House prices are disgustingly high. Our governments are pretty ordinary, too. Haven’t had a good one in years ( similar to the UK )

I’d choose NZ too nanna8. Have often thought had I emigrated it would be there. But definitely not Canada. I’m sure it’s very beautiful but I couldn’t withstand the winter temperatures.
If it was just a retirement move I’d probably choose Portugal. Have chosen I should say! Recently widowed and in my 85th year.

Spain or Australia.
DH and I spent many winters in Spain. Love the culture, the people and their attitude to life.
Ditto Australia although, so far, only two visits by me. DS2 lives there which is the big plus.
The climates are a big plus too…I loathe the British winter.

I have seriously considered both but have decided that I’m now too old to handle the stress. Should have gone years ago!

Australia for sure- of course they have their problems but nothing like we have here.

France, we had a holiday home in Normandy for 30 years.

Second choice would be Ireland, returning to where half of me came from.

Canada😃

Any Scandinavian country or Italy.

North East Germany, somewhere on the Hanseatic coast would suit me just fine, though inland would be good too.

Nanato3 Fri 18-Apr-25 13:43:15

Spain. Though I've never been abroad in my life grin

I might choose Portugal.

Portugal for me too.

Or Australia if it wasn’t so far away. 🙂

Canada. Stayed there for a while and didn't want to leave.

I'd have to choose Australia.
Unless my family decided to leave and go elsewhere!

Everyone says how wonderful New Zealand is, I've been, would go again but for a holiday only. Canada? No.

I like Finland but the winters are difficult.

Ilovedogs22 Fri 18-Apr-25 14:46:46

New Zealand, as a Horticultural student there were so many opportunities for people like myself but I dithered and that ship sailed!!
Always regretted not doing it. 😒

LizzieDrip Fri 18-Apr-25 14:48:34

Definitely Spain! Love the culture, the people, the weather, the beautiful, diverse landscapes… I could go on!

Too old now - wish I’d done it years ago. Possibly my only regret in life.

Astitchintime Fri 18-Apr-25 14:51:10

Madeira

Canada😃

Oh yes Oreo, I'd forgotten how much I wanted to live there or NZ.
That boat has sailed!
(Without me of course) 😉

We were all set to emigrate to New Zealand when our children were 5 and 3.
We didn't go because DH's mother became ill and he wanted to be near to her. Then my parents became infirm.
I have always regretted our decision to stay.

Furret Fri 18-Apr-25 16:27:03

Yes, Canada for me too.
