Of course most wouldn’t want to and it may not be possible but where would you go ?
I was thinking New Zealand or Canada. New Zealand because they are 10 years back in the way they live compared with here ( better ) and Canada for its beauty and the people seem to be very similar in attitude.

Italy has been mentioned. While it is great for the many holidays I’ve spent there, I lived and worked there in my late 20s. I was so glad to come back home.

We were lucky that throughout the 1990s my inlaws had a wonderful holiday house with an acre of land in the south of France. When they decided to sell up we, their DC all cried out but to be fair we would never have wanted the upkeep, taxes etc. We enjoyed the most fabulous free holidays for 12 years.

I’ve got it planned in my head, in the Chianti foothills overlooking Florence, please. I’d prefer a luxury villa and beautiful gardens if possible, with plenty of room for friends and family.

We have actually done this three times. Nowhere is perfect. If you are young [not likely as this is GN] then definitely go but our last move was from France back here, and we bitterly regret that. Anyone who would like more information, please PM.

The Netherlands - my best friends live there.

Françe, we nearly did in 2016/17, grandchildren kept us as visitors only.

Italy or Norway for me. Along with language lessons!

Allira Fri 18-Apr-25 19:20:04

but I'll probably stay here in Scotland where the midges keep the crowds away 🤣😅

It's kept me away, Grammaretto 😂
But I'm used to Australia where there are more ferocious biters! 🤔

Some nice asides there Grammaretto. Well said.

I emigrated to West Coast Canada.
Love the climate.17 °C today. Rainy season in the winter but ever really cold. People polite and respectful

I grew up in NZ but came here when still a child after my dad died. He was 3rd generation Kiwi.

My DS has emigrated there. He loves it but I have too many ties here. I have visited several times.
You can't live on scenery and it's very far away.

My DB emigrated to Denmark 45 yrs ago and has had no regrets. His living standard is much higher than here.

I thought about England but I'll probably stay here in Scotland where the midges keep the crowds away 🤣😅

I would also choose New Zealand.

valdavi Fri 18-Apr-25 18:31:50

sweden or spain for me, I wish.

silverlining48 Fri 18-Apr-25 18:28:07

For not further…. I did not type further ! sad

silverlining48 Fri 18-Apr-25 18:27:15

Never been to Australia NZ or Canada so they wouldn’t be my choice. Too far further a start.
I would consider moving to France in the south, or Germany or Italy. All three are favourites and not so far away.

Ilovedogs, the grass isn't always greener. Especially in health care.

Málaga in Spain. We almost did, we really gave it some thought ten years ago when we first retired. Now? I’m glad for various reasons we didn’t.

If i could speak Swedish, possibly Sweden, I like the Scandinavian lifestyle- same for Denmark I think.

Ladyleftfieldlover Fri 18-Apr-25 17:58:59

Probably Australia. We nearly emigrated and sometimes wish we had. I visit there every couple of years. My brother and sister live there with their families. And now I have two great nieces and a great nephew. I also have cousins out there with their families. Plus old friends who are sort of ex-relatives - my brother is on wife number 3 and everyone has remained friendly.

My Irish clan have emigrated to Canada and the US (mainly Philadelphia area) in fairly recent times. I think without exception they have all returned to Ireland having made enough money to return home and have big houses built. They have raised large families overseas too.

Canada definitely so pristine . If hadn’t met the love of my life a German I would have emigrated to Canada . I ended up in Germany

Maggiemaybe Fri 18-Apr-25 17:38:47

I wouldn’t want to, but if I had to choose somewhere it would be Italy. We’ve been there so many times and love it, but we’re well aware from experience that living somewhere is totally different from holidaying there. smile

SueDonim Fri 18-Apr-25 17:38:27

Somewhere warm, for me. I’m fed up of being cold! I loved Australia on a holiday there, particularly Adelaide though it was cold in Melbourne when we were there. grin

Gin Fri 18-Apr-25 17:35:05

Italy. We lived there for quite a few years and would happily go back if I was younger.

Ilovedogs22 Fri 18-Apr-25 17:26:35

kittylester

We did emigrate to Australia - we came back.

Hi kittylester, why did you decide to come back from Australia?
Was it the heat, the creepy crawlies or something else? 🤔
