Do you see yourself as a 'Pensioner'?

On the thread about the cost of hairdressing, some people mentioned concessionary prices for pensioners.

I didn't know it was still a thing and haven't seen it on offer here. It conjured up an image of white haired old ladies having a weekly shampoo and set, on rollers, sitting under a dryer.

Then it dawned on me that I am a pensioner!

But being a pensioner is only one role in my life and i do not want to be defined by it. Similarly I do not want to be defined by the number of children and grandchilren I have.

Why append any descriptor to us at all?

Thank you Carlotta may I ask one more question!

How does it work for you? Do you automatically get 10% off your entire bill on Tuesdays after scanning your myWaitrose card?
I have shopped in Waitrose for decades and seem to have missed this benefit.

I would also like to know about the waitrose discount. Shopped there this morning and no sign of a discount on my receipt. Perhaps I will ask at the customer service desk tomorrow as well.

Carlotta

I haven't got a link to share with you NotAGran I just have it on my MyWaitrose card and it's in the Ts and Cs they sent me. I've never had any problems using it and claiming whatever discounts are on offer that week.

Have you had the Waitrose discount for a while Carlotta?
I don't think it's open to new registrations but those who already had it can keep it.

Well I am a pensioner, so yes. It's not how I think of myself, but it's one facet of me in the same way as I am a driver, or a bus user, or a shopper at various supermarkets. If there are discounts on offer I'm quite happy to make use of them.

I m a pensioner in years (a young 80) I m a teenager in mentality (sometimes) quite happy to be interchangeable
Apart from my bus pass I don’t get any consessions my hairdressers doesn’t offer them and I don’t see any restaurant meals now (used to) I think the cinema is a pound off but the lack of any decent films to watch means I haven’t been for ages
I think Iceland do a pensioners Tuesday or did but I work on Tuesdays so that’s out 🤣🤣
