Supermarket Substitutions

Perhaps you could cut them in two halves.
With Sainsbury’s you can always refuse them.
Never any bother just handing them back to the driver.

I once ordered a pot of guacamole from another well known supermarket and they sent pickle flavoured Monster Munch as a sub. I read that the same supermarket sent a pack of newborn nappies as a sub for sanitary towels.

According to one my delivery men, if your chosen product is out of stock the pickers are automatically sent a "suggested substitution" (via some weird algorithm I assume) which they have to use regardless of whether the actual picker can find a more suitable one.

I suppose it explains why they thought I should use snack size chorizo to stuff my turkey when they didn't have any fresh stuffing. I would have thought even a pack of stuffing mix would have been preferable, but apparently not.

I do accept you're a bit in the lap of the gods with food delivery but their choices do baffle me at times!

The first Easter of the pandemic I decided to treat myself to a bottle of Waitrose rosé Prosecco as I would be on my own.
When my order arrived I was initially disappointed to see they had been sold out of the £13.99 or so Prosecco.
They had however substituted a bottle of their own dry pink champagne retailing at £30 something a bottle.
Result!

Always a bonus Rosie when something like that happens. Trouble is, it doesn't happen very often!

With the Tesco website you can opt out of all or individual substitutions being sent.
If you don't want the substitution the driver will take it away, no problem.

I once ordered a swiss roll from Tesco, they sent 24! Another time 5 bananas turned into 99! Needless to say I sent a few back!

Many years ago, when I had a cat, I ordered cat litter tray liners, and I was sent a pack of sanitary towels instead. This was in the days before one saw the substitutions online.

Last week I ordered a pack of 1kg chicken thighs costing £2.99.
They didn’t have them so sent two packs of boneless, skinless chicken thighs weighing a total of 1.2kg and worth £6.90.

Happy with that! 🤣
