I recently saw 2 Lane names that I would like to live on .

Featherbed Lane
Bumblebee Lane.

Anyone else know any addresses you'd like to live on or not ?

Just remembered, there's a French town called Condom

Perhaps that’s why they get called French letters 😂

I suspect it was, Magenta8 . Much of that metropolitan Essex area was developed in a fairly short timescale, roughly 1900 to 1930 so the same architect may well have been used in both places.

Come to think of it, Seven Kings Road is a pretty interesting street name. The whole area is known as Seven Kings and local historians all seem to have their own theories about how it originated, many of them fairly unlikely-sounding. Most likely, the nane evolved from Saxon times and it was Svenke's Ing, ie: Svenke's settlement.

^Is this Electric Parade part of George Lane in South Woodford by any chance? It looks very like my, very distant, memories of the place.^

No, Magenta8, it's Seven Kings Road, Ilford.

Thanks for the info Scribbles. Not far away then. I wonder if it was designed by the same architect.

I like the way Cheltenham has curved roads called 'circus'.

There's a street in Deal called Ticklebelly Alley

I believe there is a Velvet Bottom somewhere in the New Forest. Sounds comfy!

There's also a Loggerheads in Staffordshire 🙂

I was told that a road called Pig Lane had its name changed after a new police station was built there.

There’s one in Bristol called There And Back Again.

I walk past this road sign several times a week and love it.
'The Ocean at the end of the lane' In Southsea.
It is a little grandiose as it's not an Ocean but I still smile.

An ancestor of mine is buried in Deadman's Place.
South Yorkshire Police have an operations centre in Letsby Avenue.

I’m very fond of Great Snoring and Little Snoring in Norfolk - we seem to have moved from street names to place names.

Not saying one as too idetifying. And unique.
But the close was named after a famous character in a film that had recently been screened.
Ridiculous name to call a close. But hey ho.

There is a place called Friendly in West Yorkshire

I live on Featherbed Lane. LOL. My end is just a group of terrace houses in a square not very illustrious at all. However at the other end of the "Lane" which is a country lane there are some very large important looking establishments that I would have given my eye teeth for at some point in my life. They all have double fronted bay windows, extensions, sweeping drives that you can drive into and out again without having to reverse. I suspect they are even more luxurious at the rear. I've never seen that side. (Tongue in cheek sort of post really) I quite like my house I've lived here for almost 50 years now.

There is a Grope Lane in Shrewsbury, narrow with overhanging jettied buildings. Also a hamlet called Wigwig in Shropshire where there was a proliferation of insects!

Ah yes, Squeezee Belly Alley - real name Temple Bar, nicknamed Squeezee Belly Alley by locals. I grew up in Port Isaac, and for a time when I was a young child, we lived with my gran just around the corner. Happy times….. (not one of our photographs you understand, I’ve just nicked it from the P.I. Heritage site!)

There is an Arguments Yard in Whitby and my DD tells me there is a Resolution Hotel.

I thought Comfort Road in Cornwall sounded very nice until I was told this was named after the ladies of the night plied their trade there!

Fairislecable Thu 15-May-25 16:24:43

There is a Squeeze Guts Alley in Truro Cornwall, it is true to its name.

There is a Cling Clang Lane in Oxfordshire but I have no idea of the origin of that one.

Fluffyjumper Thu 15-May-25 16:08:35

There's a very nice fish and chip shop at the end of Jingling Lane, in Kirkby Lonsdale.

Kidnappers Lane in Leckhampton (Cheltenham).
Near to Dead Man's Quarry!
