Road, Street, Lane Names.

While we were in Budleigh Salterton on holiday last autumn, we walked down a road called Inner Ting Tong! I did think that was lovely, it stuck in my mind.

A fairly new housing development near me is called Featherbed Villas, why?!

There used to be a road outside our town called Goosemuck Lane, I would have loved it as my address, but due to demands from new house owners, it was changed to something more "normal".
I can`t remember where it was, but many years ago we saw a (very) narrow street somewhere in Cornwall, called Squeezy Belly Alley.
A new housing estate next to us is called The Featherworks, due to being built on land that was occupied by a quilt and pillow making factory.

Yes, there is an Outer Ting Tong in Budleigh too. It's where the two roads meet, the word Ting is derived from an old word for hill.
Watch out for the sharp bends and high Devon Banks there! 🚗

Here’s a local one to me, visited by The Inbetweeners a few years ago.

Alternatively, the Ting element could be derived form "Thing", which was a form of medieval meeting place/council. The English Place Name Society suggests the Tong element (in the Yorkshire Tong) could be either a river-fork (cognate with tongs) or a spit of land.

Ugley in Essex. The Ugley Women's Institute changed it's name to the "Women's Institute (Ugley branch)".

I used to live on a Water Lane. It never flooded while we were there but we did have a small river at the bottom of a very long garden.

We have a Love Lane near us.

Aha,so like a sort of fort where the council met?

There is a street in Abingdon called Picklers Hill. What I like is that there is a house there called Pan Yan!
In the Banbury area there is Creampot Lane, I wonder if there is a sugar bowl somewhere!

Well I know of a Honeypot Lane.

We have a Poorhole Lane.
Near Maidstone there is a village called Loose. I had a friend who declared herself proud to be a Loose woman. Her mother was mortified.

We have an Electric Avenue. I must rock down there one day.

As a child I lived near Beacon Bottom, it raised a snigger

A road in our nearest city is called Little Paradise.
It might have been so once.

When I had my windscreen replaced I had to go to Windscreens Avenue.

When I was a child we often used to drive through a place called Six Mile Bottom, I used to giggle every time.
