I recently saw 2 Lane names that I would like to live on .

Featherbed Lane
Bumblebee Lane.

Anyone else know any addresses you'd like to live on or not ?

We are a few miles away from Featherbed Lane and a Honeybottom Lane.

Christmas Steps in Bristol is my all time favourite place name .

Oh yes, love that name 😀

One of my relatives lives on a road called Far Golden Smithies. I`ve never been there, but it sounds delightful.

Old English Origin:
The name "Slaughter" comes from the Old English term "slōhtrē," which described a muddy or marshy area, potentially referencing the river's banks.

In the Cotswolds there's Upper and Lower Slaughter . Awful names but beautiful place.

My DGGM lived in Lower Slaughter.

I do love the Cotswolds.
The Slaughters are beautiful, they're so old, lots of history there .

Why did they get named that, I wonder?

I have a photograph of myself, in the Yorkshire Dales. I'm standing under the signpost to Crackpot.

There's a Dancing Dicks Lane in Witham, Essex. (Hope that's not too rude.)

That conjures up some naughty pictures grin

Here's a clip of the wonderful Maggie Duffy singing a song she wrote about Squeezy Belly Alley:-

I Earls Colne not far from me is Hillie Bunnies, very children's story book and cosy sounding.

Hillie Bunnies is crossed by Burrows Road. The whole of Earls Colne must have been overrun by rabbits.

As a child I used to live on Apple Pie lane, so called due to the sharp Z bend in the middle.

I always liked the sound of Swingswang Lane in a nearby town but went off it a little when I discovered it used to be the site of a hanging post 😳

We have a Love Lane near us.

There's a Love Lane not far from me too and a
Gibbet Hill ( hangings used to take place here at one time)

There was a Robbery Bottom near where a GM lived - we found it very funny as kids, but not far away was also a Turpin’s Ride, which explained it. It was near what used to be the Great North Road.

Prudes read no further, but according to Bill Bryson in Mother Tongue, there used to be a London road called Gropec*nt Lane!

While we were in Budleigh Salterton on holiday last autumn, we walked down a road called Inner Ting Tong! I did think that was lovely, it stuck in my mind.

I wonder if there is an Outer Ting Tong 🤔

I know of a Water Lane, don't fancy living there .

Yes, there is an Outer Ting Tong in Budleigh too. It's where the two roads meet, the word Ting is derived from an old word for hill.
Watch out for the sharp bends and high Devon Banks there! 🚗

Alternatively, the Ting element could be derived form "Thing", which was a form of medieval meeting place/council. The English Place Name Society suggests the Tong element (in the Yorkshire Tong) could be either a river-fork (cognate with tongs) or a spit of land.

Aha,so like a sort of fort where the council met?
Usually on higher ground?

escaped The "Things" weren't forts, but they were usually on higher ground, so the speakers could stand at the top and the ordinary people could stand at the bottom and see what was going on. Tynwald in the Isle of Man is the same derivation.

My guess would be that Ting Tong was a meeting place near a fork in a river (or maybe roads/pathways) - or I could be totally wrong!

Here's another Electric Parade. Several decades ago, I used to get my hair cut in the shop which is now a solicitor's office.
It all resonates fading glory now but I'd love to see the whole block with its lovely art deco facade thoroughly smartened up and refurbished.
