How dare he use this platform to express his vile political views. Stick to singing Bruce, and you can stay in the UK. You’re not welcome back here.

He dares because it is his platform grin. People are choosing to go, knowing his views and the words to his songs. He's not imposing his beliefs on the unwilling.

Well, what he said did, after all, take just over 5 minutes in a 3 hour musical evening

There's a long history in the US of singers who have an element of protest particularly in the 60's/70's/ 80's/ 90's era ...Joan Baez, Dylan,, all have elements of it in their songs.

And Springsteen, like them, also tender songs about love and loss and other aspects of life.
He didn't speak in hatred but in concern and sadness. Neither did he incite hatred. See the concert as a whole.

And this is the POTUS who reviled Taylor Swift and then posted that now he has criticised her, she is " no longer hot"(!).
Sauce for the goose and all that....

Is anyone here on Truth Social to check the president's posts? I will see if it is possible to join.

I have joined and sure enough the post about BS is there so not fake news. I may well regret this bold move but the postings of POTUS are beyond parody.

PS the link may not work.

I love Bruce even more now!

Wyllow3 Sat 17-May-25 18:55:13

I didn.t have to join, (I wouldnt have!) it just came up. Reading most of it was a pain in the proverbial.

These people couldn't care less about free speech, what they mean is it is now the other side who is trying to censor speech. They make me laugh.

My feelings exactly. Your other posts were bang on as well.

I think they call it TDS

I suppose he has to make himself relevant, or he wont fill the concert halls, or his bank account.

TBH it made me feel a little embarrassed for him, but I generally hate it when entertainers of any sort get political.
I prefer my idols to stay schtum. That way I can relax and enjoy whatever it is they are good at.

Doodledog Sun 18-May-25 09:57:45

What’s TDS?

Seriously- if you think BS has to do anything to ‘make himself relevant’ you are the one being embarrassing 😂

He is relevant because he is the voice of his audience. If he just sang about teenage love at his age it would be embarrassing, but his songs go deeper than that.

Cossy Sun 18-May-25 10:06:18

Hshahshsha Bruce Springsteen hardly needs to make himself relevant, honestly!!

He’s 75 with a net worth of around $1bn!

"I prefer my idols to stay schtum. That way I can relax and enjoy whatever it is they are good at"

But many of Springsteens actual songs have a political element. They work at many levels. Enjoy.

One of my points entirely.

He's just an entertainer, if you like his music that's great, but that's where it ends for me.

Casdon Sun 18-May-25 11:44:32

Some posts just show how little some people know about Springsteen. He’s long been a major activist, not just a singer. So many of his songs are also about his beliefs - I just don’t understand how people expect him to completely change because they don’t like his politics - why do you listen to him, this is what he’s about.

Well said! Many “entertainers” are VERY political, singers, songwriters, actors.

To call someone “just an entertainer” is a tad insulting and one dimensional!

I wouldn't want my opinion to be ignored because I am just a woman. No good comes from dismissing the voices of any group of people.

Strange view of the role of art/artists of all kinds in our society! Art..music...books..."just to entertain"

Casdon ....

Your right in some respects, especially if you are referring to me, as I am not a fan or expert on anything he does.
But I have it on good authority from a life long fan, that he once at least, said in an interview, that he would never hold his audience hostage and force a political perspective on them at a concert. Moons ago I gather.
I guess he changed his mind.

why do you listen to him ... I don't object to his tunes political perspective or lyrics especially when I used to do the hoovering etc.

Parsley ... I think you are suggesting I am being too dismissive of him and or his political stance, probably because I used the word just?
I can see that could be the case, and tbh as I didn't give it a great deal of thought when I wrote that, I probably was, in the moment dismissive of him.
Ofcourse he is, welcome to his opinion, as are you, and so far no one has stopped him from voicing it, let alone marginalising him.

I just feel a bit squeamish when wealthy people make money championing the working classes.
I'm sure there are plenty of discussions to be had around that pov!

Wyllow3 ... is it really that strange?
If one doesn't entertain, one runs the risk of sinking into oblivion and the message never being heard.

In a nutshell, I suppose I'm advocating for more critical thinking than passive endorsement of any message.

But this thread has encouraged me to listen to BS Bob Dylan, and Johnny Cash again
Next is Leonard Cohen, if I can take the misery on such a sunny day like today🤣☀️
