Welcome! Please make yourselves comfortable. I thank you all for your patience and support throughout the times that we've shared. flowers

Sounds such hard work SueD, I’m pleased your Mr is coping well.
Sounds like they have pain control for himself spot on FGT, your stepfather is admirable.
Oh no Grandmabatty tlc required, keep warm, I hope you improve after a good sleep.
It rained this morning then a dull breezy day, not warm at all, we’re on a storm warning tomorrow when we’re at an evening wedding ‘do’. Stretch class then morning was, as always, good, new moves today, my muscles are pinging, MrJ cut the back grass. Pleased to see flowers on tomatoes and cucumber plants in the greenhouse, I tidied up the bedraggled peony remnants and chucked some slug pellets about.
Sweet and sour chicken with mushrooms for dinner.

brook2704 Fri 06-Jun-25 19:08:51

Hoping for the very best possible outcomes for both DHs SueD and FGT, love to you both x

Grandmabatty Fri 06-Jun-25 19:05:29

I'm coming down with a cold 😥

Grandmabatty Fri 06-Jun-25 18:54:27

Good to hear from you FGT. Suedonim I'm thinking of you and your husband.
Today I was fairly busy. An Aldi shop first thing. Then the library and a quick visit to the doctor with a letter. Then the library to choose new books. The rest of the day has been spent in the garden getting rid of weeds. I was mostly successful in clearing the front garden, in between chatting to neighbours! I have a very friendly street.
I've just had sirloin steak and potato wedges for dinner. Currently, I'm enjoying a glass of red wine.
Dgs1 received an excellent report from school. I wouldn't have expected anything less but it's nice to read.
Tonight I will have a fairly early night. I wish you all well.

woodenspoon Fri 06-Jun-25 18:51:15

Goodish news FGT and hopefully you can get a semblance of your normal routine back, if not all. Good luck to your DH. I hope the trial medication helps him.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Fri 06-Jun-25 18:24:48

‘Evening All’.

I’m back on parade now I’m feeling braver and more hopeful. It’s been a pretty terrifying four weeks I can’t tell you how awful it’s been. Deciding to fly back from Málaga 3 days into our holiday was very stressful.

I’ve been on the bus today, over to see my lovely stepfather. Carried two heavy bags of shopping from our larder and took him a Father's Day card and a bottle of Famous Grouse his favourite tipple. He has a wee dram every day at 2pm he was telling me. Well done him, at 93y he’s earned it. I’ve said I’ll try and visit every week as obviously our Sunday lunches together are out of the question for the foreseeable. Life eh?

Himself is watching a film on Netflix. Pain free thankfully now with his extra meds. That ‘etched’ look has disappeared from his face. Uncontrolled chronic pain saps the life, enthusiasm and energy out of the most stoic souls.

💐and 🤞 for the Fgt and her dh, and for ‘SueD*
Just catching up with everything. I’m posting from Dundee. Been for a couple of days with my sister in law. We’re all shopped out 😀 and relaxing in our room before dinner. Home tomorrow.

Grannmarie Fri 06-Jun-25 17:07:50

Thinking of you and your DH, SueD, good to hear that he is coping with his treatment.
Get plenty of rest when you can, make sure that you both get wee breaks from the hoohaa, that describes it well!

soop Fri 06-Jun-25 14:15:37

FGT2 Every good wish from here to kingdom come are winging their way to you and himself. Bless you both.

Squiffy, your beautiful card and kind message was delivered as we pootled off to Campbeltown. Thank you so much. You are a lovely lady. (P.S. Your hand writing is impeccable)

SueDonim Fri 06-Jun-25 13:44:59

FGT I’m sorry the news wasn’t better but I hope the new plan keeps it at bay for as long as possible. Xxxx

My Dh had another round of treatment yesterday. He’s not too bad today, thankfully. Scan next week, results later this month. All the surrounding hoohaa is exhausting, trying to get appts for bloods, prescriptions that don’t get sent, errors in forward planning. I’m fed up of the sound of my own voice.

TOYA even if I’m not posting much. Xxx

Grannmarie Fri 06-Jun-25 12:01:17

Hoping and praying for the best possible outcome for Himself's new treatment plan. Hope the medication keeps him comfortable meantime.
Remember to look after yourself too, FGT.
🙏🕯🙏

Grandmabatty Fri 06-Jun-25 11:39:40

Wishing all the best to FGT and her dear man.

Nannytopsy Fri 06-Jun-25 11:19:16

The message I sent a couple of days ago didn’t make it! Just to wish soops, FGTs & Yiayia well. We are off to Kent early tomorrow, to return the granddog. The cleaner can help us get rid of the hairs on Monday !

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Fri 06-Jun-25 11:19:02

Hello everybody. We went to The Christie to be told the main tumour is progressing but that chemotherapy treatment is still available.

It was a lengthy appointment and the upshot is Himself has consented to take part in a clinical trial but with evidence based treatment as well. We came home with multiple oral analgesics to tamp the pain down until his first cycle starts in three weeks’ time. So, we wait but have hope in our hearts and we are truly grateful for everything this hospital continue to do for us.

I wanted to post here too as you’ve all been so kind.

hulahoop Fri 06-Jun-25 11:14:37

Just seen your news FGT not what you wanted to hear but the plan sounds promising ,hope himself isn't in too much pain.
Our peonies have been decimated by the wind.
Hope all have a good day.

cornergran Thu 05-Jun-25 23:44:45

Roses are resilient redcar, you did the right thing to preserve it, there will be more blooms once it recovers in the meantime you can enjoy them indoors.

This wind is trashing our garden. Coastal living is always draughty, not like this though at this time of year. We have a beautiful deep red rose in our front garden. Three rose blooms were simply blown off today as I watched. There’s not one left now, usually it’s covered at this time. The climbers can’t hang on to blooms, petals everywhere. I figure nothing I can do other than help them recover when (if!) the wind drops.

We’ve always had roses, I love them and they remind me of my parents gardens. Most of the current collection are in large planters in our tiny garden. If this wind is a sign of things to come I’ll have to have a re- think and try to group them in a more sheltered spot - if I can identify one. Always a challenge smile.

We’ve had a decent day, wandered to a shopping mall with a roof as it was pouring for much if the day. Couldn’t find what I was looking for, it didn’t matter, we got some bits ready for family birthdays later in the month.

Had a pleasant surprise this evening when I dug out some trousers (probably 15; years old) I was sure would be too tight and they fitted perfectly. Ideal for our next couple of nights away with a top I bought last year.

We stayed in Buxton last year, first time in the area, brook absolutely loved it in spite of the sun going missing. There will be a call about the wretched meter tomorrow. I’ve lost any patience I had with British Gas. There will be words said and yes, I will bear in mind the ‘problem solver’ on the phone isn’t responsible for their crazy systems.

Pleased you were well supported yia. Hope there’s a positive outcome.

Been thinking about Mr and Mrs fgt with everything crossed for them.

I truly should be asleep. Busy one tomorrow. Rest well everyone.

Redcar Thu 05-Jun-25 22:29:09

brook I’m loving having the roses indoors, not so keen on the creepy crawlers that came with them! The roses are a very pale pink but not highly scented. I’ve cut it back quite a lot in previous years, so I think it will survive being pruned at the wrong time of year.

brook2704 Thu 05-Jun-25 21:56:37

Oh I hope your rose recovers well redcar, I don’t have any experience with roses but I think cutting back might help the branches grow back stronger. In the meantime I hope you enjoy seeing the flowers indoors

Redcar Thu 05-Jun-25 21:31:59

Cold and very wet here today, not quite cold enough for the heating to come on, but it may be on in the morning. I’m wearing a fleece jacket at the moment!
yia I hope you can relax this evening and have a good sleep.
brook after torrential rain today I had no option but to cut some of the branches off my rose bush. I brought some of the flowers indoors, and put some in buckets outside. When the garden waste bin has been emptied tomorrow I’ll cut some more off it. I hope that without the weight of the flowers the branches will spring back a bit.
blossoming you were lucky to get a walk today!
I hope the fgts are ok.

Night night everyone.

Blossoming Thu 05-Jun-25 19:50:42

Hoping everything is going well for FGT2 and her DH today. The phlebotomist came and took my blood sample today, results are usually online after a couple of days. It’s been raining on and off all day, MrB and I took advantage of a sunny spell to walk down to the lock gates.
Goodnight everyone, TOYA ♥️

Jaxjacky Thu 05-Jun-25 18:54:24

What a letdown utbb I hope you at least enjoyed the change of scene and meals out.
Massage sounds great Grannmaries I hope you floated home 🙂
Anxiety is very debilitating Yia relax this evening and sleep well.
What a wet, cool day, our heating was on when I got up this morning and I’m wearing a jumper, good old British weather!
So, it was indoor cleaning and kitchen exercises, stretch and balance, I’m hoping the rain has plumped up the early potatoes still in the ground. Cottage pie going in the oven, I’ll prepveg now.
FGT and himself 🤞

brook2704 Thu 05-Jun-25 18:10:52

Hoping all has gone well for FGT and her DH today
It’s been cold here today too grandmabatty, I didn’t stay in my pjs but I did put on my fleece lined leggings this morning before going out to the garden, I needed them too!
grannmarie hope you’ve had a lovely relaxing massage this afternoon
Hopefully the rose will grow back bigger and stronger redcar 👍
Such a shame about the hotel uttb but hope you still enjoyed your break away in the Peak District, I do miss going there and have many happy memories of days out in places like Buxton, Matlock and Bakewell. We used to often take my mum there before she died
Yia hope today has gone ok for you
Corner, we had our Smart meter changed twice before it worked properly, the first two meters kept stopping snd starting sending the readings, the third one we had has worked perfectly since day one and never missed a reading ( hoping I’ve not jinxed it now!) I hope you can get yours sorted out soon without further hassle
Thinking of everyone in the quiet corner, take care all x

Yiayia4 Thu 05-Jun-25 17:06:59

Thinking of FGT and himself.🙏🤞

Thanks cornergran.Wise words,I told them I was very anxious this morning and they were very kind. Its crazy to feel so nervous,I’ve had knee operations replacements injections etc etc and no problem at all.I think it’s all the anxiety over the past year and seeing DH go through so much.I need to get the big girl pants on and get on with it.Wired for sound till tomorrow morning.

Hope your appointments have helped Granmarie.

Usedtobeblonde Thu 05-Jun-25 14:34:44

I am back this lunchtime from a two night break in the Peak District with my friend across the road.
The weather was kind to us until this morning when it rained , sometimes quite heavily, so we came home straight after breakfast.
The hotel ,originally a Premier Inn has been taken over by new owners, no less than the Chatsworth group, it needs a lot of improvement before we go again and we have been twice a year for about five years, after my H died.
It was very disappointing.
My thoughts today are with all who need some kindness and some good/ better news.
Life can be very taxing and sad.
Take care everyone.
