The birds ain’t coming.

Yesterday morning we had quite a spectacle in our garden. The ants must have been coming to the surface as, for about an hour, we had two or three dozen or more small birds in the garden. More sparrows than usual, blue tits, great tits, blackbirds, thrushes and probably more but I didn't have my specs or binoculars handy. They ate and ate then left. One pigeon sat on the ground just watching!

I have a lot of mad young sparrows in my garden at the moment. They make me smile (except when they fly into the conservatory windows!). They don’t seem quite sure what’s good to eat at the moment so they’re having a go at everything and zooming back and forth in a little flock like exuberant toddlers (squabbling like them too!). To my great joy, I also have some young goldfinches too, only recognisable as such at the moment by the emerging gold feathers on their wings. They feed on my spent cornflowers, and are shadowed by their more flamboyant parents at the moment.

At the caravan site we have our van sited on, there is a nesting box high up on the wall outside the shower block.

Lower down on the same wall is a metal "post box" for people to extinguish cigarettes in.

Guess which one of these the birds, robins I think, have chosen to nest in?? 🙄

(There's been a sign on the metal bin since the early spring warning people not to use it, and why!).
