Who cares?

Thanks, I think I agree with many of the comments here.

There are things posted on here asking questions, what is wrong with saying “I don’t care” or “I’m not bothered”
I 100% see that, in fact I think we all mutter "Why would I care" under our breath from time to time on GN!!

It's the rudeness in writing who cares? that gets to me a bit, after a poster has gone to the trouble of creating a post. Very often it's those who don't start posts who are quick to ridicule those who do. It also feels a bit like saying, "who on GN would be interested", almost like speaking for everyone else.

But I might be overthinking it here.

I too remember "don't care was made to care" as a child.

In my school-days, but that of course is long ago now, "who cares" was considered a very rude way of closing a conversation, as you were indicating if you used it that you had no interest in the subject the other person had mentioned. It also had an undertone of the topic being totally stupid.

The usage may well have changed since I was ten, but when I see the expression used here or anywhere else, my reaction is "how rude!"

I don’t think people are being rude (on here), I think they are genuinely expressing that they don’t care!

I can’t see the point of saying it, I agree with BlueBelle, why read a thread if you don’t care enough to make a contribution which adds to the discussion. It doesn’t drive me quite as mad as those silly clap signs after you have reposted somebody else’s comment though, I think they are really dumb.

Simple answer. It just means that you do not care about or for a person or thing.

Exactly! Google is at our fingertips. If the deceased hadn't resonated in anyway little point in posting. 'Who' comes across as very dismissive imo.

There's one person who sometimes posts on an RIP thread with a 'who?' Often the person who has died would have been pretty well known. That one word comes across as not only pointless but dismissive.

Particularly as the person asking is on the internet 😀. A quick google would tell them who is being discussed, so they don’t have to look foolish.

The clap emojis are shorthand for saying ‘My thoughts exactly’ without typing or cutting and pasting someone’s post. Maybe with a ‘well said’ thrown in.

‘Who cares?’ on its own is like a teenager saying ’woteva’, IMO. It’s rude and dismissive. As others have said- why post if you don’t care and can’t understand that others might?

My thoughts, if someone posts 'who cares' on a thread, if they don't care, why even bother to post that, or is it a lazy way of saying 'why has this trivial subject garnered such a response it's of no interest to me?'

No explanation really! It’s like the expression when you have met someone you know, and they say “See you later”, knowing full well you won’t literally see each other later. Just an expression.

PS now I'm awaiting a Who cares? answer!
