We’ve all heard of “not scaring the horses” but what about not scaring the dogs?
Apparently Guide Dog puppies have been mingling with racegoers at Ascot, as part of their socialisation training to become more comfortable around unusual headwear, which can often frighten dogs.

Gorgeous dog. That hat would frighten me.

😂, and my old dog, who was once scared enough to bark furiously at a policeman in a helmet! Luckily he was a very nice policeman, who promptly took it off.

When we took on our rescue dog she was afraid of hats, glasses, beards, high viz, bin bags, walking sticks, skateboards, motorbikes etc etc etc. I don't think she'd been socialised at all as a pup.

The guide dog puppies training at our nearest mall were the best thing about my recent visit there.

Surely the hat is made of those things you use to wash in the shower?

Prob masses of tulle, whatever that is, or netting.Either way it’s horrible and will test the most easy going of dogs.

The expression on the poor dog's face. "This is so embarrassing!"

Well this isn’t about his gear or hats but you have to laugh else you would cry

My daughter and her partner have a 17 month old who is the light of my life! My daughters partner normally sleeps till about 12 or 1 o’clock every day I don’t know if that will ever change??

My daughter works from home and is the main breadwinner-her partner is a very nice person but……***

They have three cats and now have gotten a 17 month old dog who is a canine companion in training -they are fostering -to be bred-most likely-finally today because the dog arrived today -my daughter said everyone thinks they’re crazy I had never voiced that I just thought it!!! Honestly you just couldn’t make it up it’s insane in my opinion lol. Again I keep my mouth shut and try to keep good relationships! So on the note of something lighthearted you just have to laugh really and truly laugh!

This morning little Suzie, the dog, was barking like mad!! So, naked as the day I was born, I dashed from the bathroom to the bedroom to see what had spooked her. Imagine my surprise and embarrassment when I saw the window cleaner cleaning the bedroom window!! I think I got away with it - but it will be a while before I can look him in the eye 🤣🤣

I think it is an absolutely wonderful hat, poking fun at outrageous fashions.

But then, I have never known a dog that was afraid of hats!

Looks like a haberdashery shop rummage sale bin on her head 😂
The dog's expression says it all!

Did the wearer travel in an open top car, if not how did she fit in even a limo. Certainly having a bit of fun adhering to the theme of helping to familiarise dogs.

I think that if I put that hat on, it would fall down over my face. Mind you, at 83 the hat would definitely look prettier than my face.

I have a friend who doesn't like fireworks, she teaches any dogs she has to be afraid of them too. One labrador who liked me, I took to a firework display, saying "what's that?" & cuddled it the whole time we sat there watching, it was not afraid any more & fascinated by them by the end.
Another friend trains her dogs to bark at fireworks to tell them off for making a racket, they're not afraid of them. ...It's how the owners bring them up.

Sorry, but that's not always the case. Our old Lab was gundog trained - shooting didn't bother him in the slightest, he could walk past bird scarers without batting an eyelid and was generally the most laidback dog you could ever hope to meet. However, fireworks reduced him to a quivering wreck and nothing helped - believe me, we tried everything. In the end, we had to resort to doping him up with Valium. So it's not always how the owners bring them up.
