avoid Wetherspoons on Tuesday night 10 june

I went into Wetherspoons in Sunderland (brave I know) with friends for coffee, before a photography walk.
The coffee cost £1 and the pub was full of retired people having a whale of a time socialising with their friends.
It was 10.30am on a rainy Wednesday morning.

We were there last month. We were staying at a seafront front hotel and loving it but paying quite alot for drinks in the bar.
Went into Sunderland and popped into Wetherspoons, lovely place. Much cheaper than our hotel.
Older guy came in dressed as Elvis and staff were chatting away to him, really friendly

Yes lots of retired people having tea/coffee, nice place to meet up

Wish we had one locally

I live in a pleasant Thames riverside town and I thought our new Wetherspoons would not fit in. How wrong I was. The breakfasts are delicious, they cater well for my grandson with allergies, families who possibly couldn’t afford the over priced eateries in the town can come here for a reasonable priced meal, they have a roaring fire to sit by in the winter and the staff are really helpful. I am a convert.

The only Wetherspoons I’ve entered was on the Somerset coast, because we could find nowhere else to eat.

The floor was sticky, the tables filthy with detritus everywhere, we backed out pdq!

And went hungry.

For any who may have missed it on the other thread, this caught my eye when buying birthday cards yesterday

Tim Martin was a Brexit supporter and is right wing so of course that those facts alone would automatically make him ‘obnoxious and vile’ to those of a certain mindset.

We have a Marston's Pub here which is much better and very popular.

For some it does Rosie, others have more to think about.
I like our local Wetherspoons, only go in now and then and in the day, it's spotless, staff lovely and for fast food it's good.

Amazing how all roads lead to Brexit Rome it seems...

That will be the reason.

Wetherspoons do vary; we've had very good meals and dreadful meals. Our local one is quite busy, I believe but not great.

Even top chefs use sous vide food, including some famous ones.

We went to see 10cc in Halifax, decided to have couple of drinks in the WS there, like sitting in a goldfish bowl, huge windows looking over the valley- pure magic. Heard that that WS was closing down. A travesty in my opinion.

As a chain restaurant they vary, but have to say that generally they’re good, and of course very good value for money.

Our Garden Centre shuts at 5.30 pm and the restaurant even earlier.

I went away with my daughter to Llandudno and ate in the Spoons every night. It's a beautiful pub, an old music hall. One night we both had fish and chips and a lovely peach schnapps cocktail it cost us £20 altogether! Nothing wrong with a Spoons

We have been to that Wetherspoons, it’s lovely, isn’t it.
After that we went to the big pub on the corner where it was a Karaoke night. Back to my council house roots 😂

And that great you can afford it....but for some £1.71 for as many hot drinks as you want is as much as they can afford

I like the Spoons now and then, the steak is lovely especially on the day it is reduced. I love eating out and use all types of restaurants.
I do think there is some snobbery attached to the Spoons. I will use them next when I get my car MOT'd.
