if you don't like football,
England are up against Senegal in a friendly match

I have no trouble avoiding Wetherspoons😄😄. In fact I’m not sure where there is one.

I also have no problem avoiding Wetherspoons 😂 Much prefer a nice Garden Centre Cafe.

Hate the place!

Well, we miss our Wetherspoons. Ancient Greek meeting used to meet there. Was a great informal community resource.

Avoid Wetherspoons every day, simple's.

I love Wetherspoons. Cheap food and drink, interesting buildings, hardworking staff. We have even stayed in their hotels. They are great. There's a lot of snobbery attached to Wetherspoons.

I can't stand Spoons or footie so I always avoid them both like the plague!

Jaxjacky Mon 09-Jun-25 10:10:57

Us too Kate a lot of their buildings are really lovely.
You forgot the game last Saturday infoman against Andorra

Kate1949 Mon 09-Jun-25 10:12:36

Our local Spoons only has one TV and they never have the sound on. Easy to avoid.

Nothing to do with snobbery- but the owner! And as two of my children and two of my students worked there- they told me what happens in the kitchen!

Buildings are indeed often lovely, like the one next to where we used to live- but ...

Kate1949 Mon 09-Jun-25 10:44:25

Well I don't know what happens in the kitchen but in our local one the staff never stop. If there is no one to serve, they are mopping, cleaning, polishing. We can see the kitchen from the lounge. It looks immaculate.

All the food is bought in and reheated in bags in hot water tanks. Carvery probably your best bet.

Allira Mon 09-Jun-25 10:49:17

Oh dear, I'd better avoid our sitting room too 😁

Totally agree… Especially with your last sentence..

You re-heat bought in food in plastic bags in your sitting room? Oh wow.

😁

The football ⚽️

Although a Charlie Bigham meal comes in handy sometimes!

Allira Mon 09-Jun-25 11:00:15

Where can I buy these plastic bags of food and a sous-vide?

Kate1949 Mon 09-Jun-25 11:00:29

Spoons are always in the top five of the hygiene ratings.

I think you will find that most restaurants buy in and reheat these days; it is more economic.
The idea that pubs have chefs sweating (and swearing) from scratch is drawn from nostalgia or "Bear".
My one experience of "Spoons" was good. A friend, who works on a tight budget took me for lunch. I was a bit off-put by the cheapness but had a lovely meal of boiled ham, chips and salad; well cooked and fresh. Absolutely no complaints and I am a very fussy eater.

Good for a cheap drink, or coffee. Food isnt brilliant though. I use to meet my friends at our local WSpoons, I would say, “meet you in the airport lounge” as that’s what is reminded me of 😂 what I liked was we could have a conversation, without the the ‘car alarm’ music in the background.

Kate1949 Mon 09-Jun-25 11:32:22

Yes no music, no dogs, no children after 9pm. Never many children in them anyway.

But it is not 'snobby' to choose pubs and restaurants that cook from scratch on site.

I think it was obvious that Allira was referring to the football in connection with her sitting room - not reheating sous-vide packed food hmmhmm
