Thx Frogs .... for anyone thinking that's a plan ("My son and family recently went to London during half term and counted 5 Wetherspoon pubs during their trip on the Open top pub") -- I'd say an open-top pub sounds interesting, but check the weather forecast?

They aren't 'cooks' in Spoons - just assemblers. And microwave button pushers.

The reputation Wetherspoons had when they first started up was cheap booze, drunks, sticky carpets etc. most Wetherspoons now (and we've been in many) are not remotely like that. They are lovely, clean, have cheap, tasty food. The new one in Birmingham Grand Central is lovely. Ask Prince William. He had a pint in there!

Im a spoons fan because I can go there with friends and familyof any age ,they have good disabled facilities the drink is cheap and the food is on par with other chain pubs but considerably cheaper My church holds a coffee club meeting in one of the Glasgow spoons every Wednesday

In our spoon the toilets are up 5 steps and no disabled on the ground floor. You are better off avoiding the toilets anyway. I have been once and would never want to go back.
Give me a nice local cosy pub any day. However as with any establishment it is totally down to the manager what the business is like, except for national companies, who all have nominated suppliers, nominated lines and cannot deviate when ordering. Often if you ask for a change to the dish you have chosen it can't be done, more often than not because the cook does not know how to substitute.

I don't go there anymore. Standards dropped through the floor and the food portion sizes became miniscule.

The final straw was when my daughter and I went there to eat, daughter paid on the app as we didn't have cash with us that day. A member of staff came out to say her choice of meal wasn't available. So she chose something else - not available. Third choice not available. The fourth choice was, which she didn't really want - it wass 99p extra. The staff member said we had to pay it. Couldn't pay the extra via the app so had to battle through the busy bar with massive queues and waste further time paying for a meal my daughter didn't want. No apologies from them, Rotten place.

DH had an eye examination on Friday and, as he had drops put in to dilate his eyes, I met him to help him home. As it was noon and his eyes hurt in the sun we decided on an impromptu lunch.
We popped into Wetherspoons. DH had never eaten in it before, I had with work colleagues.
He was pleasantly surprised! The tables were clean, no blaring music or flashing lights. It was about 2/3rds full, the food came quickly, was hot and tasty and a drink is included in the price.
The toilets are exceptionally. The cost for two was about £15, you can’t get value like that elsewhere, I’ve payed that much for 1 glass of wine!

I have got a subsequent engagement tonight, packing up 2 bedrooms ready for the move

We never go in the evening. But our local ones are great for breakfast, clean with lovely staff. I can’t see how they can cook breakfast in plastic pouches? It always tastes and looks just as freshly cooked as the more upmarket cafe that charges three times the price.
Our own lounge might be a no go area though! With a bit of luck DH will dose off, and I can watch in peace. 😉

Never been in a Weatherspoons, not one locally so not likely to visit one either although I have heard they do very good breakfasts.

I love footy, and most Wetherspoons are actually fine, but most of them will not be showing it, they only have a couple of small TVs. I will be watching it at home in comfort. Incidentally my posh neighbour absolutely loves Wetherspoons and eats there several times a week.

If you want to avoid the football I'd have thought Wetherspoons would actually be the place to go?? My recollection is that they don't do Sky Sports etc...unlike say the Stonegate pubs that have wall to wall football.

That must rule out a lot of shops, businesses, our present government and their predecessors among others!

Why our present government? Starmer was on the people’s vote marches and was a staunch remainer. It’s only his pragmatism that made him accept the situation (as have I*)and decide to work with it, at the same time building the bridges with our closest neighbours that the Conservatives government had broken.
*I’m still not prepared to forgive the people that encouraged the electorate to vote for what, imo has been damaging to this country. Martin and Dyson to name but two.
