How do you usually listen to music?

Alexa in the kitchen? A treasured CD or vinyl collection? Spotify or Amazon? An ancient portable radio? The latest downloads through fancy Bluetooth speakers?

I was reminded I’ve been neglecting my Amazon playlists when I was watching Clarkson’s Farm and ELO’s ‘Alright’ was used as background music. I’d forgotten just how much I loved the Zoom album back in the day with George Harrison and Ringi Starr guesting. Guess what I’m listening to now? 😂

Never mind how easy it is to just ask Alexa to play Radio 2 or Classic FM. I must not neglect my old playlists!

How do you choose what you want to listen to?

I listen to Alexa and choose whatever I fancy at that time. I also listen a lot to Boom Rock and also my cd player

Septimia Tue 10-Jun-25 16:48:52

Sitting at the piano or organ despairing of all the wrong notes I've played!!

We do have a fairly large CD collection, but these days I tend to stream stuff either on Spotify, Amazon Music or YouTube.

Mainly spotify from my laptop - late OH (a hi-fi buff) would be horrifed!

And Radio 3 is on a lot.

CD's and vinyl when I'm on my own and Spotify with Mr. S. and usually loudly.

I either listen to Radio 3 on my phone played through a speaker, or I download stuff from Apple Music onto my phone. I have a large collection of CDs - all genres - but rarely play them these days.
And what Septimia said😁!

In a concert hall when possible. Music is best live. I sometimes listen to Radio 3.

Old fashioned way. Radio on the kitchen windowsill or carried around as I work and on the car radio. Radio 3, Radio 4 or Classic FM, in that order.

I listen to my Spotify Playlists on the Alexa in whichever room I happen to be or the radio also on Alexa.

On YouTube music, through headphones (just bought fancy Bluetooth ones)

Alexa

Radio 3, when it’s not playing weird stuff with zero melody, and Classic FM. We have quite a few CDs but TBH rarely play them.
In the car we often have dh’s playlist on, which includes all sorts, from Charles Trenet’s ‘La Mer’ and songs from old musicals (the Gdcs love several from South Pacific!) down to a niece’s beautiful soprano solo of Panis Angelicus.

Alexa in the kitchen, whatever I fancy, often Radio 2, earbuds, iPhone and what I fancy when I’m walking - could be Gardeners Question Time, a podcast or Radio 4.

Classic fm on the radio mostly, though if I’m learning new music I find it on YouTube, or Spotify list.
I have lots of CDs but rarely play any. Also vinyl but trying to decide whether to get rid or keep, but if so, I need to buy something to play them on as I got rid of DH’s hi-fi set up.

I've been a bit off music lately but, probably with the festival season starting up I put Radio 6 on the other day and didn't really like the sort of things they were playing;[ I tune into it via the tv]. It was Craig Charles in the afternoon. So I thought I'll tune in again when Tom Ravenscroft was back on, only to find he'd left. I listen to the Folk on Foot podcast religiously because, no matter what music I'm liking at the time I always go back to folk music. I listen to that on my ipad. My main source of music is probably utube, especially if I've discovered a new band. I've still got all of my cd's but tend not to play them as my current dog doesn't like loud noises. I used to love playing music in the car but don't drive much these days.

All manner of different ways.
CDs and the occasional vinyl through the hi-fi in the lounge. Tony Blackburn’s Sounds Of The Sixties, Apple music and playlists I’ve created are through my Sonos roam speaker that I cart around the house with me.
Radio Berkshire or Greatest Hits Radio on a little radio in my little dressing room when I get ready in the morning.
Playlists or radio in the car.
Last but not least, live gigs as often as possible.
I ❤️ music!

Classic FM on my radio or free Spotify albums on my phone .

Mainly on Alexa, my Echo speaker is on the hatch between kitchen and sitting room, in the middle of the house. Boom radio until 2pm, then BBC 3 Counties either at home or in the car. Later, Jo Whiley on Radio 2, and when I settle on the sofa it’s my Spotify playlist of “saved” Shazam tracks.

I do still have a turntable to play beloved old LPs annd singles occasionally, scratches and all adding to the nostalgia. I’ve never been as fiercely attached to CDs, but still have loads of home-recorded compilation cassettes from the late 1970s/1980s, they’re like a journal of the time.

Can anyone recommend wireless headphones that stay in place? I tried on my DD’s AirPods and they felt very insecure, they’re too expensive to risk losing one.

Radio and Alexa.

Very few people know about Radio Swiss Classic on line. Wonderful, often not-well-known pieces of music. Free to listen to through your computer. Instructions in English, but very short in-between commentary in German. Couldn't be without it. So soothing.
