I think part of their appeal was the clean cut boy next door image. What a unique sound though, Surfer girl still gives me goosebumps! RIP Brian

I can’t really choose a favourite song but I used to love Surfin’ USA because it was fun to sing along to.

The Beach Boys were wonderful, the sound of the West Coast, I remember Good Vibrations '66 I think, one of the first records I bought. I know his brother Dennis died a while ago, there's another brother, I'm wondering if he's still alive.

Was their guitarist Mike Love a relative? Is he still alive?

First time I saw them on British tv it was either on Thank Your Lucky Stars or Ready Steady Go (remember Cathy McGowan self-styled Queen of the Mods?). I definitely remember they were wearing their trademark stripey shirts and all their songs up to Pet Sounds revolved around California beach culture.

You knew summer was on the way when you started to hear Beach Boys songs on the radio.

(I think it was called the Light Service before the BBC re-organised and invented Wonderful Radio One!)

I've been reminiscing with a friend whose favourite is also, 'Wouldn't it be nice' when we realised the next words were 'if we were older' and we decided to look for a new favourite.

Always loved the Beach Boys music because it was so* cheerful*.
At secondary school myself and a few friends used to gather behind the Gym to........ smoke ?..Nah .... Take drugs? ....Nah.......what we did was to practice harmonising " Sloop John B" . Go figure.

I have always loved their music, but I can remember thinking as a teenager that they weren’t as. “Cool” as say most of the British performers.

If you look at them, they do look like a barber shop group.

Their music was just so "together" though, for want of a better word.

All my deepest condolences had been sent on the key Facebook Account ..

Terribly saddened .. So many entertainers, dramatic artists and well knowns had passed away this year.

I saw the Beach Boys at a Hampton Court Palace music festival a few years ago and they were marvellous!

Brian Wilson made jokes about not being able to move about so much when performing and did little shuffle movements. I wasn't a huge fan as a teenager but they were the best out of all the other acts at that concert!

My choir are singing God only Knows at a wedding on Saturday. It will be bittersweet.
In the late 60s I was in a Soho record shop with Long John Baldry. He didn’t ask for my autograph 😂

I saw Long John Baldry's Steam Packet in about 1966/7 in a ballroom in Derby. I have an idea that Elton John was there too.

Elton was good on that day in 1975 but the Beach Boys had played a blinder, all their surfing songs etc. It was a hot summer's day. Everybody was dancing. Then on came Elton and plodded through his new album that many were obviously not familar with so it was just a bit of a come down after such excitement.

I first saw Elton at the small Shaw Theatre in London in 1972 with Long John Baldry and Linda Lewis. I was 16! He was 25. I had a major crush. He signed my copies of Madman Acoss the Water and Honky Chateau. Still have them. Happy days.

Beach Boys’ music takes me right back to my last year at school, where the upper 6th were finally allowed to have our own common room (a separate prefab, no teachers allowed!) with music, a kettle for coffee, and the odd sneaky fag!

I loved the Beach Boys - in fact I still do. So sad that Brian Wilson has died.

The BBC have a wonderful version of God Only Knows which has so many great singers and musicians involved as well as Brian. It made me cry as it's so respectful and beautiful

Just reading that Paul McCartney reckons “God only Knows” is the perfect song.

Not sure which is my favourite.
