The sound track to my teenage life as a keen surfer. It was the background to my honeymoon on jersey and St Ouens Bay surfing.

Glorious.

Proper music with lyrics you could actually understand.

Anniebach Wed 11-Jun-25 18:34:00

God Only Knows, Good Vibrations, Wouldn’t It Be Nice,
and many more

Thank you Brian. RIP

Aww I loved the Beach Boys. I was in their fan club in the 60's. RIP Brian. xx

kittylester Wed 11-Jun-25 18:38:21

The sound of my youth. I was in a Bowling team and the Beach Boys were on all the time in the Bowling Alley.

That is sad news.

Wonderful music. Takes me back to the good old days of proper music. RIP.

The Beach Boys were wonderful, the sound of the West Coast, I remember Good Vibrations '66 I think, one of the first records I bought. I know his brother Dennis died a while ago, there's another brother, I'm wondering if he's still alive.

TerriBull Wed 11-Jun-25 18:56:09

Oh goodness, just Googled the third brother Carl he died ages ago late '90s sad I saw them at Crystal Palace in the early '70s, superb.

Something we’ve got in common Whitewavemark2 !
I loved the Beach Boys’ music. Absolutely loved it.

Didn’t we all dream of living that surfing life in California?

Brian Wilson couldn’t swim and was deaf in one ear but that didn’t stopped him composing those fabulously catchy songs.

Calendargirl Wed 11-Jun-25 19:39:00

Another one gone. The sounds of our youth.

😥

Devorgilla Wed 11-Jun-25 19:42:46

Saw them at Wembley Stadium in 1975, along with The Eagles, both bands were fantastic, unlike Elton John who was headlining.
RIP Brian.

They toured a few years ago, with the old chaps supported by younger performers, including family members.
It was a magical evening with all ages represented in the audience: the sound of summer for sure.

Pet Sounds was one of my favourite albums in the 60s, and I still love it. He was a troubled soul, but so brilliant.

Allira Wed 11-Jun-25 20:18:20

I liked surfing too (only body boarding, though).

I have a Beach Boys CD in the car, must play it tomorrow.

RIP Brian

Beach boys were my favourite band after hearing “Help me Rhonda” and loving everything else they did. Brian was genius. I travelled up from Exeter to see them perform in Bristol in 1968/9. The best experience ever even if I did have to miss lectures and sit in an open top sports car freezing cold to get back. It was well worth it. God bless Brian.

Greyduster Wed 11-Jun-25 20:51:27

So sad. I adored The Beach Boys. A great sound and for sheer musicality they couldn’t be beaten.

I was there too! I had just turned 20.

I think many were disappointed with Elton that day as he just played tracks from his then latest album Captain Fantastic which had only just been released. I'd bought it and loved it but people were expecting him to play a more varied set.

But anyone coming on after the Beach Boys on that fabulous day was going to be upstaged.

What a line up. I've still got my ticket - £3.50!

Girl Don’t Tell Me is my favourite Beach Boys number. So evocative of a holiday romance. Bygone days when we still wrote letters.

Hi little girl, it's me
Don't you know who I am?
I met you last summer
When I came up to stay with my gran'
I'm the guy-uy-uy who left you with tears in his eyes
You didn't answer my letters
So I figured it was just lie …
Girl don’t tell me you’ll write me
Again this year …

RIP.

I’m nearly 66 and I remember buying a Beach Boys Album which had a blue sleeve- could’ve been the Greatest Hits?
My brother is 5 years older than me so I think I heard all the songs previously via his records.
I always wanted to be a California Girl- not much chance growing up in Blackpool😉🤣

Ah I love the colourful clothes she wears
And the way the sunlight plays upon her hair......

I used to swan about in my colourful clothes imagining someone singing that about me! Happy, happy days.
