Why do I do it

I have done nothing today other than sit on my sofa looking at GN and so far have about 8 posts which have yet to be responded+to by anyone.
I spend far too much time on GN generally and really should find a different hobby.
What a terrible waste of a lovely day which I coukd have enjoyed by getting outside and being busy.
Does anyone else ever feel the same?

Kate1949 Sun 15-Jun-25 17:09:07

Yes all the time.

ViceVersa Sun 15-Jun-25 17:14:43

Oh yes, absolutely.

Yes! I’m exactly the same and I feel as guilty as you do. At the end of a day, I look back and feel that there is so much more I should and could have done with it, especially as there won’t be that many more.
I blame Gransnet and the like, although it’s not their fault. No-one forces me to look at them.
That said, I get a lot of pleasure out of reading them and commenting but I early should do other things.
I’ll try to behave tomorrow!

Now you know why the youngsters spend so much of their time on phones and other screens.
It’s addictive!

petra Sun 15-Jun-25 17:32:06

It’s not the content or the device: scrolling is addictive.
This has been known for some time.
Did you think youngsters were reading stuff No! irs the addiction to scrolling.

I went out into the garden, thank heavens it was still sunny and warm. Made myself a g & t on the rocks and a tiny pkt of really low cal crisps and sat in the garden in the sunshine with a book I bought in Prague years ago that I never read. A Country Doctor by Franz Kafka. Thought it Woukd be interesting.
Well, what can I say, I couldn’t make head nor tail of it but now better understand what is kafkaesque. It’s almost impossible to make any sense of his strange stories some so short they fit on a single page.
Am back indoors and the book is back on the shelf. Hopefully will impress my children when we are gone and they come to sort our books. Until they try to read it.

silverlining48 Sun 15-Jun-25 18:17:01

So am back to GN. grin

TerriBull Sun 15-Jun-25 18:18:26

Not today, I've checked GN several times throughout the day, like right now. There are some days more than others, where there's not a lot going on, everyone's in their garden, I think a Sunny Sunday/Father's Day with a visitor or two, might be one such time. Come horrible weather days far more traffic through the website. Well that's just my opinion of course, although I have been known to excel in time wasting, scrolling through nonsense when I could be doing something far more productive.

I have similar days and Mr A is dreadful…….always on his iPad, but I make myself do something else everyday…….today I did some filing and shredding of bank statements etc., then I put some support wires up for a clematis, fed the peas and beans,
watered the rhubarb and sprayed the front with cat deterrent…I think I’ve earned a bit of scrolling. 😂

GrannyGravy13 Sun 15-Jun-25 18:28:51

I am rather jet lagged too tired to read or get engrossed in tv, I have spent the day feeding the washing machine and tumble drier, putting away laundry and sorting out what needs ironing.

Oh and scrolling GN to stop me falling asleep 😴

NotSpaghetti Sun 15-Jun-25 18:35:52

silverlining48 - it's ages since I read any Kafka...
Is that the one with the (horrible) groom and the maid and a man with worms in his stomach?
grin

I've read and enjoyed Metamorphosis and The Trial but I haven't read anything else by him.

Cabbie21 Sun 15-Jun-25 19:58:40

Sometimes GN is the link to other human beings, on days when we’re not seeng anyone else, or when you come home to an empty house and there’s nobody to talk to.
Most days I spend far too much time on my ipad. Or if I have a busy few days out of the house, I then find I am behind with some GN threads.

Deedaa Sun 15-Jun-25 20:42:00

I read Metamorphosis years ago and enjoyed it, but I've never felt the urge to read any more.

I shared a bottle of Prosecco with my daughter at lunch time in the sun with a BBQ then fell asleep at 5 pm and woke at 8 pm thinking it was Monday morning🙈 I had woken up the last two mornings at 4 am and was so tired out and now probably won’t sleep tonight. Im definitely out of sync today 🤷‍♀️ I will be on gransnet all night 😂

I think that a lot if us do it .
I have masses of decluttering to do today.
I had yesterday off .
I went to church and , had a very long leisurely lunch with a friend and then crashed out for hours .
Today , I really must sort out my bedroom.
I've just thrown out the contents of six storage boxes .
I was really shocked at how much stuff I've accumulated.
But I have to be careful if I put the telly on and browse the net ....

It doesn’t matter if you haven’t anything better to do.I have a look on here, and on MN and another site but don’t stay on any forum for long as I have work to go to, a few child minding duties, housework to catch up on, shopping, visits to family friends and neighbours and books to read.

Spent the weekend moving household goods from current home to temporary home as part of three part house move. DS came down and sent the weekend driving a van from A-B, while I packed boxes and loaded them into the van with DS. DH played his part but cannot do much ebcause of his health problems.

Today I am absolutely knackered and spending the whole day, dozing or surfing. I am completely incapable of anything else.

silverlining48 Wed 18-Jun-25 11:04:23

I am not complaining about the weather because I love the sunshine but won’t be walking with my group today because it’s just too hot! So I sit here looking at this screen instead.

silverlining48 Wed 18-Jun-25 11:04:47

Monica hope the moves go well.

Jaxjacky Wed 18-Jun-25 11:34:22

I’ve got Covid and after washing the downstairs floors I’m fit for not much else than faffing online.
