I can’t stand it. We had a very hot Summer this time and now the weather is the opposite. Very sunny and dry but very, very cold. I saw some of that white stuff this morning on the path, haven’t seen that for a few years.

It’s lovely here today, breezy and cool. Trouble is my bungalow, which is very well insulated, is still warm…..too warm!

Weather is what you are used to. Friends who have lived in Spain for a few years, came back to visit in spring, he had not brought even a jacket with him and didn’t stop moaning about how cold it was here. To us it was a very pleasant spring day. We even had 😎 on.
It’s overcast and miserable here today, our recent few hot days are gone, at least for now. Pity as I am off to Dorset on Saturday for my hols.

The coldest I have ever been in my life was in Melbourne - flimsy build and inadequate heating - brrr!

Brisbane in a draughty Queenslander with gaps in the floorboards!!

Actually, not as bad as the UK as a child, with ice on the inside of the windows.

Our nation's capital, Canberra, is just 3 hours from Sydney - yesterday morning it was minus 6!!

Even if we have hot-ish days once the sun has set it usually gets very cold. Despite our current few hot days, I have sat outside in the early evening only twice this year. I am in the SE.

Heating is v expensive in the UK and we need it far longer than those in warmer climes. Mine was still on earlier this month and will be back on by September if not earlier. It’s not on now but weather due to change this week, and not for the better so coukd be back on soon.
Why if you have cool winters do you not get better heating systems, wood burners are great, mind you 17 sounds pretty good to me.

It is about 1C in the mornings, sometimes freezing. That’s cold. It is 7C just now, early evening. We are at the foot of the Dandenongs so probably a bit colder than the city.

Ooh lucky you, our now AC loved Puffing Billy train rides.

Nanna8, I have read that many Australian homes are not insulated very well, making you feel the cold even more. Do your trees loose their leaves in winter, or do you have more evergreens?

We could use a bit of the drier weather here... cool and cloudy. We had the wettest May since 1909. The grass is lovely and green, but my bedding plants are still the same size as when I planted them. Sweet peas only 4" tall.

This is my indoor/outdoor thermometer just now in sunny Norfolk. 7.15pm (clock is wrong.)

33c in my garden. 🌞

17!! Freezing?? 😀

That’s a lovely temperature for getting on with life in shirt sleeves.

Depends who you are I would still be in my thermos for sure.

We have had lots of heat over the UK, but while some areas are getting heavy rain and flooding, in East Anglia we are basking in dry heat up to 32 degrees, and having to water everything.

We love to talk about the weather

Just back from South Africa, ut's their winter and bitterly bitterly cold early morning, until about 9.30am when it is hot for the rest of the day then very cool in the evenings

Sadgrandma Tue 17-Jun-25 15:17:17

Can I send my DH over? He’s moaning about the heat here in UK!

Susieq62 Tue 17-Jun-25 14:26:00

I am in Hvar Croatia and 33 here! Australians have no
Idea about the cold 😂😂

Bigred18 Tue 17-Jun-25 11:46:57

I agree nanna8 - it is freezing! 4 degrees in Sydney this morning. We don't have central heating or fires so it is cold. Electricity costs are highest in the world apparently so we don't just turn on heaters. I have air conditioning but use it sparingly. I spent my childhood in UK so remember burst pipes, net curtains frozen to windows and paraffin heater in bathroom! So I know cold!

Get out of the walk in fridge then!
17C is NOT freezing

😁
That's what I told DD when she's said "It's freezing here!"
I reminded her that she did take Physics at A level.

Yes, I told DD the temperature was 16C (feels like 14C) here too and this is supposed to be our summer.

Georgesgran Mon 16-Jun-25 14:05:14

Here in the North East, 17 would be Factor50 tropical! It’s a well known saying here that coats are for wimps! 😂

Only joking - I think it’s low 20’s today, but hazy.
