This week in 2017 we were in Oxford and the temperature was around 30 degrees. Much too hot for sightseeing.
I’ll be indoors today with the blinds shut.
Hope those feeling ill get relief soon.

Due to the medication I am on I have to avoid direct sunlight so am alternating between hiding indoors reading and sorting out the garage which is very cool.

Morning all and especially Marydoll the thread isn’t the same without you. As we are missing your novella, I thought I would provide one as yesterday was a day and a half!
DH had an appointment for an angiogram in Canterbury so up at 06.30. I am really poorly in the mornings due to polymyalgia rheumatica, it takes a while to get going. Get to hospital ( a private one helping out the NHS!) only to be told that due to a previous reaction to the stuff they inject they would not do the angiogram. This was despite being told since January when it was suggested, that this was what had happened 12 years ago at the last one! Referred back to NHS for a period of preparation prior to another attempt.
We then headed for Deal to see the sea. Couldn’t get a disabled parking space so didn’t even get out the car. Headed for Samphire Hoe ( all the channel tunnel spoilers was made into a nature reserve) for a long awaited coffee - the cafe was closed!
Headed along the coast to Dymchurch to a restaurant we have been to lots of times. At 12.30 there was no one on the bar and one person in the kitchen. DH not impressed. Headed to Rye to visit a farm shop DH had noticed on his travels this week that had advertised venison. You guessed it - they didn’t have any! We ended up in Bethersden at 2.30 and stopped at a nice looking pub restaurant only to be told that the kitchen was closing in 10 minutes. We chose quickly and were pleasantly surprised. It turned out to be the most expensive lunch we have ever had. DH had fillet steak, a salad and broccoli ( he’s on a high protein diet/ low carb diet due to diabetes) I had a Mediterranean ‘gut-loving’ bowl with added prawns. £5 extra for 4 prawns! I also had a 125ml glass of rose made about 6 miles from where we live in Ashford- first time in years I have had an English wine. It was heavenly but at £7.80 a glass?
I was taken aback at the final bill. Not because we can’t afford it but because things seem to have shot up in price after Covid. We haven’t been out for ‘nice’ lunch as opposed to a fast food place in such a long time. Final bill was £84! We would definitely go back but only for a special occasion. I have researched the wine and can visit the vineyard to buy it at £19 instead of the £44 they would have charged in the restaurant.
Thus endeth my novella. Maybe it’s just as well I don’t go out much, my wallet wouldn’t stand it.

Are you in hospital Marydoll? I thought it was a very serious condition?

Good morning from sunny East Lothian. We have been in Northern Ireland for the past two weeks. My DH is from there and we started married life there too. We visited friends with whom our only contact is a Christmas card and letter and a very occasional phone call. It was ten years since we had seen most of them and it was a joy to catch up face to face. We are now at our flat in EL and called on DD and family yesterday. We got a few grunts from one DGS (17) until he recovered from a day of education and became quite chatty. His twin brother only appeared at dinner but was moderately communicative 🙂

This will be a brief stay. We are going to a festival at the weekend - music and ‘well-being’ sessions, with DD and SiL. The forecast is sunny and warm but a pleasant 24 max. I am hoping that West Sussex will be back in the low 20s before we return early next week.

Marydoll, you have obviously been having a painful and miserable time. I hope your physicians and your own healing force can make things better for you.
Ginny, I did read back a bit and saw your sad news. I’m so glad your nephew has been found and hope for better news of him.
Best wishes to Kitty and Jax - I hope the covid symptoms are soon vanquished.

I said I would do some weeding in DD’s garden today. Her health condition means she can’t do heavy or prolonged garden work but loves to grow things and encourage birds and insects.

Good morning! It feels like it’s midday here, I’ve been awake since 3am 🙄😵‍💫
I took the dogs out at 5 and have been to the post box, delivered something to a friend, done an hour or so’s drawing but it’s getting too warm in my Shed so I have retreated indoors.
The fan is on, the dogs are asleep and it’s pleasantly cool in here.
I will probably be snoozing by early afternoon!
DH has gone kayaking, much to the consternation of DD but he’s ignoring her messages.
It’s forecast to hit 30° here, that is ridiculously hot so I have no intention of doing much today. It’s very peaceful at the moment!
Salads for lunch, looking forward to tabbouleh and salmon followed by strawberries and cream I think 😋
I have plenty of cold drinks in the fridge so I’m well set up.

Morning from South Lanarkshire where it’s heating up nicely.
Connel daughter and family arriving at lunchtime to drop off Sadie, their dog before they head off on holiday. I merrily offered before discovering they are away for three weeks this time😳!
She s a lovely wee thing but I’ve always been quite glad to hand her back after a week! Note to self, pay attention!

I hadn’t realised you’d been so unwell Marydoll, I do hope you recover soon.

Yesterday we went to Lytham for a walk along the prom. The weather was glorious and it wasn’t too crowded. Just enough breeze to keep it from becoming too hot. Today will be spent nearer home. I also have some admin to do which I keep putting off.

Good morning from Sunnyside sandhills northwest coast.
Colour and cut yesterday, nice improvement. Fixed up holiday insurance for the Bahamas. Expensive, but couldn’t be bothered phoning round making comparisons. As I lead a pretty quiet life these days, I don’t mind.

Thought I had lost my debit card and wasted time searching, phoning etc,, only to find it had slipped under some papers on the kitchen table. Isn’t it a relief when one’s prayer to St.Anthony comes true?
Today, packing for trip. It’s like a two centre break as I go south to stay with DD and then we fly together.

Sports day was enjoyed by the GC, despite the heat, the 10yr old won two of his events and came 2nd or 3rd in the others. The Imp in the morning was extremely enthusiastic, unfortunately he loves a camera and every time he noticed one he stopped, posed and smiled 😍

The cleaning fairies are here working their magic, I am popping out to M & S Food (not your one Gingster, Mayflower) as I have no idea what I fancy to eat, I shall be looking for inspiration.

Good morning. The sun has got its hat on, hip hip hip hooray! I really love being able to eat meals outside ( in the shade). Feels holidaylike.

Heard later yesterday that my nephew had been found in a London hospital. Sister in Law will call today with more details.
Household jobs this morning and then Sewing group this afternoon.
Sending healing thoughts to those who are poorly and hope today is a good one for all.

A hot and unplanned day awaits, the most important thing being the return of my car at long last, but that has yet to be confirmed. A sticky night means I am not full of energy so apart from minor domestic tasks think today will be slow and idle until later on when watering will be essential.

So sorry to hear that Marydoll is having such a hard time and thinking particularly of the FGTs and all struggling for whatever reason.

Good morning Mick and everyone from warm, sunny Carlisle.The rather cool stiff breeze has gone at last, thank goodness. It actually felt rather cool in the late afternoon and a light sweater went on.
I finished off the routine housework in the morning but was too tired to do much but sit about in the afternoon, I think the body is trying to ward off some infection....so far it seems to be on the winning side.

This morning, I am off into town shortly to have my hair pruned, and will probably treat myself to coffee and an investigation of M&S' food hall. In the afternoon I want to make a start on picking my blackcurrants of which there seem to be a heavy crop.
The berries on my amelanchier are ripening and the blackbirds have noticed. It's not easy for them as the slender branches barely support their weight. They have competition from a pair of pigeons this year.

Glad to see you back Marydoll. The NHS can do wonderful things but sadly not for you so far. I hope you're soon on the go again.

Good morning all from a very warm Essex.

My friend and I had a lovely time at RHS Hyde Hall , coffee and a scone when we arrived and a late ‘lunch’ of lemon and raspberry pie with ice cream . (I’m trying to reduce my cholesterol levels, - some hope 🙄). It was too warm for anything else.

The roses are really good this year and everything was looking near its best, despite the heat and lack of rain.

Today little pooch has the groomers (the girls will be warm in the parlour) 🥵. I have a pedicure booked and I must go to the bank with our Premium Bond cheques. A good month for both Dh and I. 💷.

After I've done

my errands I’ll spend the afternoon with my book and the fan .
I’m so looking forward to being by the sea next week.🌊.

Good morning, everyone from a warm and sunny south coast. I’m off to the allotment again and hopefully get there early enough to do the watering before the pressure drops due to demand! We’ll harvest the broad wand but mostly it’s a case of keeping everything going during this hot spell.
If I have the energy I’ll then pop into Tesco for a few bits and bobs.

Good morning everyone from yet another bright and sunny 🌞 🌞 day in Northampton. Wall to wall sunshine again.

Took things slowly yesterday; set out to clean the.bathrooms and wash the floors, but ended up re-organising bathroom cupboards and altering the shelf positions in them. I needed to find places to store all the products that were in the M&S summer beauty bag that I bought last week. I now have all my sun/summer creams and potions in one place. A few things got thrown out as well! Washed the towels and bathroom mat. Will do the floors today.

Sainsbury's delivery later this morning and then no further plans for the rest of the day. I finished Pride and Prejudice yesterday evening so need to find a book from my 'to read' shelf.
May have a chilli for dinner tonight.

Hope most grans can take it easy today.

Good morning from Durham. We are forecast a scorcher today. Yesterday turned out far better than I’d expected weather wise too.
My conservatory is fully reglazed and a repair done to the guttering. They worked from the rear of the house, so I wasn’t disturbed at all. They’d barely been gone an hour, when the gardeners turned up, a day early.
Today, I’m going to the bank to pay the conservatory invoice - long story, but it’s easier in branch. I’ll have a quick look in M&S as I’ve a voucher to spend, then home to see to Little Dog before my hair appointment. Since my long term hair stylist retired from Fenwicks, I’m quite happy to go to a local salon, at half the price too.
Hope MD’s improvement continues.

It was sunny yesterday morning but during the afternoon it clouded over and became very muggy.
In the early evening I dead headed my neighbour's roses, she is away for three weeks.
SIL is coming this morning and we will go shopping.

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 12° and bright. Marydoll 💐 I hope the covid sufferers recover quickly.
Yesterday I managed to clean the bathroom but not the bath- no bending. In the afternoon my ds visited and brought cake. He also brought me my cordless drill which he borrowed nine years ago! He stayed a chatted all afternoon and left at the back of five. I had salad and baked potato for dinner but something in the salad upset my stomach dreadfully so I had a disturbed night. All good now though.
Today, I have a Tesco delivery this morning. I won't be out in the sun much as I'm still protecting my eyes. Beef olives for dinner. Have a good day all

It was lovely to read a message from Marydoll, I hope you get your oomph back very soon.

I binned the dress yesterday after wearing it all day, I loved the style and the colour but the fabric was unbearable to wear, I think it was polyester. I unearthed another fabric last night and cut it out for the same dress plus the top. This time linen/viscose with a nice soft handle and drape, pale cream background. 3.3m remnant in 2 pieces for £16.50. Online from a London fabric shop where I have had some superb bargains

I went to the allotment first thing, I planted 3 squash plants a few days ago so I was to and fro with the watering can, that`s my exercise done. Bindweed is a chancer, I also dug out more of that

I am doing nothing today, just floating around in my caftan. I made 4 over the years and have 2 left, the one I am wearing is viscose crepe, it very cool and comfy.

Morning Mick, morning All. Our corner of Somerset is forecast 30 degrees today.

Enjoyed a couple of hours at the sea front yesterday afternoon. The sea breezes made sitting people watching very comfortable.

Mr C has an appointment at the surgery late morning. We’ll take a picnic further along the coast where we’ll find some shade.

Good to hear from you maryd, it’s not surprising you’re fed up. Hope you, our covid folk and everyone dealing with health challenges feel more comfortable soon
