I love summer. I was born in summer and my aches and pains are much better in warm weather. I cannot bear the cold.

From the BBC website.

Meanwhile, researchers at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and Imperial College London (ICL) released a study that used historical data to forecast the capital could see 129 excess deaths related to this week's hot temperatures.
Across England and Wales, excess deaths from Thursday to Sunday are estimated at about 570 people.

Researchers said their assessment highlighted how extreme heat posed a growing threat to public health in the UK.
Dr Garyfallos Konstantinoudis, lecturer at the Grantham Institute at ICL, said: "Heatwaves are silent killers - people who lose their lives in them typically have pre-existing health conditions and rarely have heat listed as a contributing cause of death.
"This real-time analysis reveals the hidden toll of heatwaves and we want it to help raise the alarm."
He added that heatwaves were an "underappreciated threat" in the UK.

I used to be a summer lover, and a winter one too. Many years ago.

Love it I was born in June summer is my favourite season of all year the long light nights and sunny mornings are bliss

ginny Sat 21-Jun-25 13:44:38

I agree with that Rosie51. But, there are many who complain if the temperature gets up dizzy height of 22’. !

Rosie51 Sat 21-Jun-25 13:22:26

I love spring and summer for the longer days, hate the dark. Blue skies and sunshine do lift the spirits but those of us who find 32C too hot aren't being miserable souls who relish being cold, we just want it a tad cooler. Of course if you live near the coast you're going to get lovely sea breezes that will mitigate the heat somewhat, in the middle of a built up area it's not the same. Equating loving summer with a need to love very high temperatures is illogical. Don't forget an amber heat-health alert been issued.

ginny Sat 21-Jun-25 12:02:34

Oh yes, forgot to mention the long light evenings.

Where are the summer lovers ?

I misread that, was going to say that I'm a bit old for smooching in the park blush

It's cloudy and humid today, the longest day.

I was born in June. I have always loved the sunshine, the summer flowers the lovely smells as I'm out walking.
Maybe I'm lucky as I love autumn and don't mind winter either. I enjoy all the seasons.

I love the fabulous long light nights. Wish they could last forever. When summer draws to a close my heart sinks.

I love the summer so much everything seems so much easier. The grandchildren can play in the garden all doors and windows are flung open. I’m sitting in the garden watching the birds on the feeders and the green trees in the distance and it lifts my spirits. I am not a sunbather but just love being out in a dress feeling the warm breeze on my skin. Yesterday as it was especially hot we put water in the bath and left it all day and just kept sinking in the cold water when we got too sticky. I could go on and on. X

We don't 'do' heatwaves in the Scottish north-east but I am enjoying these glorious warmer days. The summer solstice already! I can feel myself clinging on to every moment of summer - I so don't want it to go!

cornergran Sat 21-Jun-25 09:30:29

I love the sun, always have, blue skies lift my spirits. We get so many grey, heavy days here it’s wonderful to have clear light and all day brightness. Laundry drying outside, no coats, light clothes all fantastic.

Now for the reality. The current temperatures and hayfever? Not so lovely. My eyes are like slits they are so swollen, the last two days at 31 degrees have been too much for both of us. Mr C is managing a heart condition, it’s a full time job keeping him cool.

Were the temperature a steady 25 degrees with sunshine all day I’d be ecstatic. If anyone could arrange that I’d be more than grateful. ☀️

ginny Sat 21-Jun-25 09:00:51

I’m loving it too.
We have dull, chilly, wet weather for the most part of the year .
Love going out without worrying about coats and heavy clothing. Meals outside aches and pains feel better ,oh I could go on.
Obviously sensible precautions to keep home and self comfortable ( more difficult for those who are working I know).
Hoping for more of the same for a while yet.

I am with you.

MiniMoon Sat 21-Jun-25 08:28:41

I'm loving it too. Can finally wear my pretty dresses and linen trousers with floaty tops. Today I've got my outdoor oven going, I'm smoking a pork shoulder for lunch. Pulled pork with buns and salads.
I hope it lasts into the beginning of next week we are having a few days away in Shropshire. 🤞

keepingquiet Sat 21-Jun-25 08:17:14

I love it too. I went shopping in the evening and how lovely to walk out of the cold supermarket into the warm air. It was like taking a warm air-bath!

The down side is I have had the worst hay fever ever and so have to stay in during the day!

Iam64 Sat 21-Jun-25 08:11:04

Yes it’s great to see the sun and blue skies. AF means I struggle in hot temps so I’m indoors with a fan, rather than working on my garden , or reading in the shade 🌞

TerriBull Sat 21-Jun-25 08:09:17

I do love the sun and the light it's such a feel good factor, the winter goes on for what seems like far too long, I hate grey miserable days. Just a couple of personal gripes, my feet become swollen in the heat, it's supposed to reach 34 degrees today, I'm taking a bucket of cold water out to the garden to stick them ingrin and boy do midges or whatever they are like me, I have quite a few bites, my husband doesn't have any far too sour it would seem.

Having said that I do love the feeling that summer has well and truly arrived, please stay good weather, off to Devon shortly, mid twenties will do for me.

Astitchintime Sat 21-Jun-25 08:06:01

I like the sunnier weather although growing vegetables and fruit can be a challenge when the reserves are low in the water butts.

It is alarming to see dog walkers out during a blistering afternoon though……this happens regularly near me.

And I do get a bit concerned about our elderly neighbours who insist on going out every day for absolutely no reason whatsoever (not for appointments or shopping) and then coming back hours later almost collapsing from heat stroke. They refuse advice to take water with them insisting that they’ll ‘go to a cafe for a coffee’ for their usual ‘elevenses’ if they find one.

M0nica Sat 21-Jun-25 07:42:47

Love the sun and the light, just wish it was a cold sparkling Februury weekend that accompanied it.

I might enjoy it more if we were not in the middle of a house move so have a lot of packing to do interlaced with trips to the tip, gathering up garden ornaments, emptying earth out etc. DH suffers from heart failure and I am having to make sure he stays indoors, keeps cool and doesn't over strarn himself.

Well we can have it about lovers too escaped if you want🤣🤣

I m so warm and comfortable so relaxed and happy
Even on days I work I still love to see it warm and sunny people smile more, wear brighter clothes, seem so much lighter… in winter or cold days we hunker down heads on our chests bundled up in warm clothes just our noses showing
Only words said to others is ‘ oh isn’t it cold/ wet/ stormy whatever !
I just throw all my troubles off when the sun is warm whatever my problems I can manage them if it’s bright and warm

I know I was dropped down in the wrong country 🤣🤣

Happy day to every sun lover and commiserations to you coldies you ll soon be happy again in a few days I m sure
