Wetherspoons have stopped selling Steak meals

Been into a few Wetherspoons in last few weeks,
I asked about why no steak meals on the menu
They said its because some customers were returning their steak meals either under cooked or over cooked.
Its all about how you define Medium well done or rare.
Like the saying goes.one mans meat is another mans poison

What is the current price for a kilo of decent rumsteak currently?

So I ahve looked. About £60 a kilo- so £15 for a 250gr steak. Just impossible to make a profit in a cheap restaurant like Weatherspoon.

Avoid the one in Edinburgh next to the station, the cooked breakfast was one of the worst I've ever had.

Whingey

Never said it was a Wetherspoons. Alton fish and chips shop.

They sell fried goldfish?

Easier and more profitable for them to flip a burger than try to find staff that can cook a steak properly.

Also, I expect they get plenty of people saying their steak wasn't right and wanting a refund, even though they had eaten most of it.

Pensioners special small fish and chips and tea £9.99.Probably a goldfish!

It's haddock in Scotland and cod in England.

Whingey. The small fish and chips isn't a pensioners special. Wetherspoons don't do pensioners specials and the small fish and chips is much cheaper than £9.99. if you've never been you really shouldn't comment.

Wetherspoons lasagne and chicken tikka masala are both excellent. Also the breakfast muffins and tea and toast for 2.49 are brilliant bargains.

I need to get out more because I have never heard of Cote and never been to a Wetherspoons.

Aveline Sat 21-Jun-25 14:36:22

I'm always impressed by Cote. It's easily the best chain restaurant.

Just been to our local Cote, £24.85 for two courses. We both had sea bass, followed by sorbet, plus one beer and one small rose. It's not cheap where we live, I think there's a Wetherspoons in Twickenham, which will be heaving today as there is rugby.

Cost?

Brexit? ;)

OldFrill Sat 21-Jun-25 13:02:09

My nearest Wetherspoons is a lifeline for lonely folk. Refillable coffee/tea/chocolate for £1.71, warm heating, pleasant staff, loos foc. It's busy weekdays with aged local folk and coach trippers.
Mainly why l avoid it.

sassenach No Wetherspoons is not all chicken and burgers. They have curries, fish, salads, pasta, steak and ale pudding, pizzas, jacket potatoes, paninis. A good variety.

Gin Sat 21-Jun-25 12:17:27

Well if course it is cheaper to eat at home sassenach, restaurant's, overheads, staff, rent, business taxes together are probably higher than the food costs. Home cooked food tastes nice but you have to cook it! The joy of eating out for me is no cooking, pleasant surrounding and food different from my repertoire. We do not do it often but I always enjoy it. O e thing that puzzles me, the veggie dish is often my choice but the lack of expensive meat does not seem to make the price a cheaper option.

Really?

Just imagine being the chef,
and being requested to put a half eaten steak back in the grill to grill it some more, with other steaks still to be grilled.

Just imagine being in charge of overall profitability and having to justify buying in expensive steak for people who were there for an inexpensive meal.

We rarely eat out now. When I can buy a pack of two fillet steaks from Aldi for £12.49 which have been delicious, why would we pay the eye-watering prices they're asking in restaurants?
So what's on the menu at 'Spoons now? Chicken with everything and burgers?

Prices vary depending on location

Kate1949 Sat 21-Jun-25 10:37:13

The fish was lovely white cod.

Kate1949 Sat 21-Jun-25 10:36:08

Wetherspoons is very cheap. Yesterday I had small fish, chips and peas, my husband had a chicken and salad wrap. He had a pint of beer and I had a large glass of Pinot Grigio. It came to £18 something. I call that cheap.
