I have a rescue farming dog, not a Munster, and at 12 kilos he’s just the right size, if needed I can pick him up and carry him. A friend with a big, ‘proper’ dog size dog, goes where the dog goes and when he hurt his leg, she had to get help carrying him to a vet.

And dogs with a strong prey instinct, may make a beeline for neighbours cats and other small furries!

OHL: We have a GR and a Flattie. Your cross must be stunning. I gather that cruciate ligament injuries are quite common on Flatcoats - my boy's sister had one. I think that it is primarily because they do everything at full pelt!!

I have a flat coat retriever x Munsterlander he is 11 now still fit and active, he came to us as a rescue at 8 months old, I can honestly say he was the most difficult dog I’ve ever had for the first few months, he is the most intelligent dog we have ever had, the most loyal great company but very opinionated, loves children but choosy about which adults he likes, very active still needs quite a bit of excercise, on the whole he’s been very healthy apart from needing cruciate ligament surgery when he was 2, yes I’d definitely have another.

Someone in the village where my partner lives had them. And I met some of the large ones on a protest march [not that I approve of dogs being taken on protest marches] that were gentle giants. My current large favourite breed is the Stabhoun, some of which are now being bred in this country.

I know nothing about dogs but there are loads of videos on YouTube about Munsterlanders - large, medium and small

I haven't had one but I do know they need 2 to 3 hours of exercise every day .
They are a gundog as I expect you know , they point the game . Lovely dogs from what I've read but the exercise and training is a lot .
Plus you need to think about either getting one from a working line or a show line .
Show lines are usually calmer .
I love dogs , especially puppies.

Never heard of those and always been a dog person. They look like huge versions of my blue roan Spaniels. Gorgeous.
