Ice cream

I love ice cream! OH bought me an ice cream maker a few Christmas’s ago. I’ve had several of the type where you have to keep the base in a freezer but this machine is all in one. Currently in my freezer are: chocolate peppermint (granddaughter’s favourite), lemon, chocolate and raspberry, and clotted cream. We picked lots of strawberries and blackcurrants recently so they’ll be turned into ice cream.

I love Magnums too. I bought a box of raspberry Magnums today. Orange Solaros are good too.

In this heat ice cream becomes a medical necessity so I feel guiltless as I sit here spooning down the Carte D’or🤭

I bought Intense Coffee Magnums and was disappointed. Not intense at all. I will try WR colombian coffee.

My favourite ice cream when I was a child was apple and blackberry in a block - it had vanilla rippled with blackberry round the outside and a half-moon shape of apple sorbet on the inside. Sadly it disappeared decades ago

Hi RustyBear, I don’t remember that one but we used to get a peach Melba block that sounds similar, raspberry ripple on the outside and a half moon of peach sorbet in the middle, that was a Saturday summer treat!

I used to LOVE Hagen Daz (can’t spell it) Baileys flavour. However it’s the one flavour they’ve stopped making. It was delicious, so I’ve no idea why!

Indeed- just had a bowl of Carte d'Or, 1 scoop coffe, 1 scoop vanilla and 1 scoop home-made chocolate sorbet - with a dash of cream. Oh wow.

Has anyone bought ice cream from Cheshire Farm who have such a wide choice.
We knew the company when they started up in a barn now they are huge with a children playground. Despite now living a long way from them occasionally I go with my son to collect a few tubes

I made some icecream the other week as we had a tub of cream needing using up, so whipped it up with vanilla custard.
It froze so solid I couldn't hack it out of the tub and had to leave it thaw again before we could eat it. .

A good quality vanilla for me. My DD says it's boring.

DH likes boring icecream too.

Has to be Ben and Jerry's. Either phish food or cookie dough for me.

I make Nigella’s coffee ice cream. Not entirely conventional ingredients, perhaps , but tastes good. I was in the S of France last year with my DD’s and we had ice cream every day. Mostly from Italian businesses.

I made some no churn ginger ice cream from a Waitrose recipe - my first ever. And it was delicious. I’ll definitely have another go.

I have a serious aversion to paying four quid for an ice cream out of the house, however. His nibs and I bought a child’s Mr Whippy with two Flakes to share from a van yesterday and it was £3.85. Phew!

I really don't like Mr Whippy, too soft (unlike my home-made one).

No, I don't like the soft ices either, they're somehow not so cold and obviously have no taste or substance.

I love good quality vanilla ice cream. I remember Walls ice cream in the 1950s - sliced from a block and put between two wafers. It was horrible and my Mum told me that Walls ice cream was made with the fat from Walls sausages.

Well my preference is for Gelato preferably in Italy but for the moment I buy M& S Vanilla in the Ocado order each week and this week some Judes Coffee as well.

DH had three scoops of ice cream every night, allegedly to ease his hiatus hernia. Mackies for preference.
Just catching up on GN and spotting the thread title drove me to the freezer. I only had Almond Magnums, so that’s what I had.

Thank you Gransnetters for letting me know where I can get coffee ice cream. I am off to try to buy some. One holiday, in York, I came across a shop selling ice creams. This very happy lady was seen walking down the street eating a double cone ice cream; cappuccino flavour in one cone and espresso in the other - bliss.

Yes, I think the apple & blackberry was Lyon’s Maid’s version of that one - they did tend to have similar lines - like a Strawberry Split v Mivvi

I moved to Wales in 73. Temp accommodation was across the road from Joe's ice cream parlour - all fresh local cows milk whipped to a frenzy in what looked like a spin drier that froze and whipped as it went.

Every time I go to Wales it has to be one of my visits
