To those looking for an egg - free ice cream recipe, Nigella has one for coffee ice cream based on condensed milk.
It's popular in my house.

I loved Morelli's ice cream. My late husband and I often drove over to Broadstairs on a summer evening after work. We made an evening of it:-
On arrival, a bag of chips,
After our first walk, a Morelli’s ice-cream,
Just before leaving for home (Dover), a hot chocolate - Morelli’s, of course!
We used to say that we were glad we didn’t live in beautiful Broadstairs, as we would be as fat as pigs!
Such happy memories.

Crossstitchfan. I am in my head doing a magical mystery tour and wondering if you drove back to Dover through Ramsgate. Pegwell Bay, Cliffsend, Sandwich, Deal and Dover? Or baak through St Peters, Manston and out to the Lord of the Manor roundabout and off to Dover that way. I can picture it all on a summers evening. We did similar car trips in my father's little box Austin in the 50s. As you say such happy memories.

I wish the rectangular wagers were readily available in supermarkets. I can get cornets, waffle cones, shells, chocolate covered cones, hundreds and thousands covered cones but not bog standard rectangular wafers.

The best ice cream I have ever had came from a van next to Stanley Park in Liverpool. I am an Everton supporter and my treat after the game was to walk back to the car park through Stanley Park and buy an ice cream with all of the sprinkles to soothe my very sore throat from singing.

Used to love rum & raising also raseberry ripple, now I always have a selection of of branded on a stick for when the fancy takes me. It's my gp-to pudding if there's no fruit or cakes!!

I love Lidl icecreams they're the best

My favourite ice cream parlour is Janettas Gelateria in St Andrews - if you don't mind the queue on a hot day (for north east Fife, that is). Too many favourites, but clotted cream and black currants is the next thing to heaven.

I make the condensed milk ice cream that Pru Leith talked about on her show, it’s also on the Carnation website.

500ml whipping cream
Can condensed milk
1 tsp vanilla paste or extract
Tiny pinch of salt hmm if you want

Use an electric hand whisk on fairly high for four minutes. I freeze it in eight small freezer pots and take it out ten minutes before you want to eat it because it freezes pretty hard. I’m sure you could flavour it if you wish, but it’s very delicious without.

I come from Lancashire and remember that there was always an ice cream van at the Thursday market. I think it was called "Granelli's" and the ice cream was not very rich but really delicious, I think it had vanilla in it.
My husband has taken to eating a Magnum after his supper, but since we are both getting rather porky I've taken to buying the mini ones.
Marine Ices (London based) make lovely ice cream, our local Italian restaurant sells it and the pistachio is particularly nice. We used to take out children to their shop in Chalk Farm in the 1980's for a special treat.

Our mum used to buy one and put it in the freezer compartment of the fridge. I think the wafers came in a packet.
Morrisons sell similar and quit nice.

DH bought some Walls vanilla ice cream with Solero. It was delicious and the chunks of fruit in it were very refreshing.

Liquorice and blackcurrant - first had it in Tuscany, then a local ice cream parlour served it and now my milkman makes it! Delicious...

magnums are lovely, especially the cherry Magnum; it's very summery
On a Saturday, the ice cream van usually comes round, and his ice cream is gorgeous—a double cone with flake and sauce, my weekly treat! has to be that one, though another came round one week, and his ice cream was revolting—very icy and no taste—whereas the normal one is light, creamy, and very tasty

A couple of scoops of Mackie's vanilla. All Ive got in the freezer are almond Magnums . Just do not compare

Haagen Dasz for me please. Love them all but especially salted caramel that has runny dribbles of the stuff going through it 😋

The cherry Magnums are a thing of joy! We first found them in Turkey several years ago, but they didn't sell them in the UK then. Delighted to find they now do...

Lemon meringue pie ice cream in Kefalonia 😋

I buy Mackies ice cream, less ingredients than most of the others. But when out do prefer a good quality gelato.

Where I grew up an Italian family moved to the area in the 1930s and they set up an ice cream service with vans coming around the streets, They were called D Di Mascio and I grew up thinking ice cream was called D Di. Even when we got a freezer and had ice cream blocks in them I still asked “can I have a D Di”

I make my own ice cream. Pistachio with whole pistachios and coffee with chocolate chips are my favorite. Fun activity to do with grandchildren. They sometimes make up their own flavor by pureeing various fruits together.

This thread has reminded me of a memorable gooseberry icecream devoured while on holiday on the Isles of Scilly… yum!

I live in a tourist village and we have 2 places that sell proper icecream. Generally speaking I prefer vanilla but, one of our cafes sells a delicious lemon meringue cornet/tub.

I make my own icecream. Very simple - just double cream, eggs. Icing sugar and a splash of vanilla essence. Keep as Vanilla or add whatever else you fancy. No icecream machine required. Lovely and creamy and much nicer than shop bought.

Coffee ice cream. Why is it so difficult to find now?

I can’t understand why we have this difficulty/. At last Sainsbury’s Taste the Difference Coffee ice cream returned to Sainsbury’s. At least it has been presented as an option to buy. For weeks now I have ordered it but it is always unavailable and so now I allowed a substitution. That resulted in a Jude Flat White Coffee icecream. Not as good as the Taste the Difference and costing £5 so gave me one tub instead of the two I ordered. They used to do a Carte d ‘or Colombian ice cream which I absolutely loved but for some strange reason Carte D’Or no longer do it. There must be a demand otherwise why can’t I get the Taste the Difference which they offer. It must be because others have got there first.
