Do you still have it because you love it, or because you can't afford a younger model, mine is a 18 year old Renault Clio, in great condition, I keep it because I love it, but also I can't afford a newer one anyway lol

Ours is a one year old Vauxhall Mokka. I don't care for it, it was DH's choice.
Of all the cars I've owned, my favourite was a Renault 5, it turned on a sixpence and was really reliable. I ran it until I needed a bigger family car.

Ours is 15 years old, it's a 7 seater VW Caddy Maxi (known as Maxi to us). We originally bought it to fit bike sin without any faff, and camping equipment and canoe and kayak on the roof. Now, 12 years later, it's still a useful size for our three standard poodles - room for their 4ft long crate in the back and still have the rear seats if needed. I can't see us changing it any time soon. I couldn't cope with a little car, I mostly drive our 7.4m motorhome, I do like a big vehicle!

DH's is nearly 80. Mine is 2.

I had a Citroen pluriel for fifteen years, ran like a dream, but being convertible, the roof leaked and after taking my gd to ballet in tutu etc with an umbrella up decided it had to go, now have fiat 500 convertible which I love and had it five years now.

Mine is a Seat ‘Mi by Mango’ and is nearly 11 years old, with low mileage - colour is ‘nude’! I’ve got no intention of changing it, as it is perfect for my needs, with a sun roof and very comfortable. My previous car was a yellow VW Lupo, which I loved, and passed to my daughter when I bought the new one.

Deedaa Mon 30-Jun-25 19:52:07

My Fiat Panda is 11 years old. It's quite low mileage so I am unlikely to change it now. My son has just bid a sad farewell to his 20 year old Mondeo, which had finally reached the point of no return.

Vauxhall Corsa, 2008 plate bought from new. Still going.

His cars are 22 and 19 years old. Mine is a mere child at 12 years old.

We have always run old cars. Modern cars are and have been so reliable for the 30 years plus, that there seems to be no point in wasting money on a more modern cars.

DH is a SAAB fanatic. They stopped making them in 2010, so no cara he has will pass that aage line.

I had a wonderful Toyota Yaris. I had it for 13 years. It never broke down once and, if it failed the MOT, t was always for trivia. Then one day I was on a main road when we came to a crossroads with a minor road and a ******* thought he had space to race across in front of us. He didn't and drove into the side of our car despite DH, who was driving taking avoiding actions so the Yaris, which was then 20 years old was written off. I was furious. Not DH's fault, but without the * it would be 22 years old and still going strong.

My little VW is 13 next month. I love it. I was going to buy a new one but as this one seems ok I will keep it for now.

We have a twelve year old Corsa, we live in a small seaside town with plenty amenities and walk everywhere, in fact we only use it a couple of times a week. Hoping it lasts forever but I’ve no license these days as my eyesight doesn’t make the grade. Thank goodness for the bus pass.

I have a 12 year old Corsa, which is called the dog car. I use it for taking the dog out, for local trips and supermarket shopping. It is so easy to park in tight spaces, perfect for our narrow country lanes and old enough that tbh if it gets scratched or crunched a bit, I really wouldn't bother. It owes me nothing and I'll keep it until it "dies " on me. Our other car is a bit smarter but I will always opt for the Corsa unless I'm going on a longish journey. I only have to open the boot and the dog is in, waiting for me to take him somewhere nice for a walk!

My Toyota yaris is 14. I've had it for 7 years. It's been a good, reliable little car. It's big enough to carry my bike too for scenic bike rides. I don't use my car a lot as we have an excellent bus service but just occasionally, it is a Godsend.
My DS and a friend are on my insurance and borrow my car sometimes.

Kitty was 12 years old when we parted company. (kittycat, Jaguar), The air suspension pump had failed for the 3rd time - the pump itself was over £1000, plus fitting - so
I called it a day. Then, in a bit of a panic I bought a Mini convertible. DD2 is on her second Mini, now the Countryman for her wheelchair.
I’m pleased with the purchase, do 12K or more miles a year, but if I’m honest, it is a bit small.
Should I win the lottery, I won’t tell anyone, but there will be signs!!

Honda Civic, 18 years old, purchased 8 years ago - to replace my previous Honda Civic - which I purchased secondhand when it was six years old -it was a top of the range and limited edition model and which was around 22 years old when I sold it. It needed work to get through the MOT, someone had already approached me and asked me to contact him if I was selling. He was a collector and gave me a good price, he still has it. OH has a Honda Jazz around ten years old but I much prefer my Civic.

Grandma70s

I read this as “How old is your cat?”, which would have been of much more interest to me, as I have had cats, but never had or wanted a car.

😆

Wish I could trade my current one in. Temperamental. 🐈

9 year old Honda Jazz. I’ve driven 105k miles so far around the UK and Ireland in it. Hopefully it’ll last as long as I’m still fit to drive as I’d be lost without it and won’t be able to afford a replacement.

Mine is nearly 3 months old. It's running in beautifully, back in its native France. (No potholes, just smooth open roads). I'd like to think I'll keep it until I'm no longer driving. Who knows?
I nearly bought a Mini Cooper clubman for those reasons, Iam64. 🐕 🐕

My last VW was 22 years old and Always sailed though it’s MOT. For its last 5 years I also had another car. Lockdown did for it, due to irregular use and the repair bill was considerable.
I now have another VW, I doubt if I’ll still be driving it in 22 years!
PamelaJ1 you can turn the lane discipline off, but it’s a safety feature and automatically turns back on next time you start the car. I thought it worked by sensing the sides of the road as it works on B roads with no lines, but I don’t really know.

kittylester Mon 30-Jun-25 17:25:31

We have a year old Mazda that nags too, Pamela, but, on the whole, I like it.

Our other car is a 16 year old Toyota IQ. DH had one years ago and loved it.

keepingquiet Mon 30-Jun-25 17:22:57

Bought mine in 2016 so it's 9. Don't use it for long journeys anymore and although it has a few more years yet I won't be replacing it...

PamelaJ1 Mon 30-Jun-25 17:16:20

I had to get rid of my mini last year because the mice ate it. They like the plastic round the electrics. Quite common apparently. It was 13 and I wanted it to last forever.
Now I have a VW, a 73 plate. I’ve only had it a couple of weeks, I had to get something a bit bigger because my mum is coming to live with us and she has a wheelchair. I hope this one sees me out.
This one beeps all the time and corrects the steering if it thinks I have veered over a white line if I’m not indicating.
It picks up old white lines that are under the tarmac and are invisible. Drives me up the wall.(almost literally) I think I can turn all sorts of things off but haven’t worked out how yet.
I just want it to get me from A to B.

A 2009 Volvo C30 in Passion Red from new. This was Volvo’s only foray into the hatchback market and discontinued in 2016. It is something of a cult car and sought after by enthusiasts, so holds its value well. So comfortable to drive, and given Volvo’s reputation for longevity, I hope it will see me out. I could afford a top-of-the range car if I were to replace it, but I have no desire to do so.

HowVeryDareYou2 Mon 30-Jun-25 16:59:17

Mine's a Dacia, a lovely shade of blue, 2019. My husband has got an old Mercedes but it's off the road for a while.

Gummie Mon 30-Jun-25 16:35:06

My Ford Fiesta is a 67 plate. I've had 'minty' since new and no plans to change her. I've pondered changing and even looked but nothing I see is better than her. She's got lots of bells and whistles that are 'extras' on other cars.
