should lifts/elavators be fitted with port holes?

Had the misfortune of getting stuck in a lift with eight other persons,
I was not particularly worried but some of the occupants had a very concerned look on their faces,
I presume they could suffer from Claustrophobia.
What did not help is that there no port hole so you could see out and attract some ones attention,
the emergency button was pressed but it was not very pleasant experience, that you hear but not see any one with shouts of "help is on its way"

Many years ago I worked for the Green Shield Stamp Company (remember them?). My office was on the 12th floor and we used a Paternoster lift all the time. A nightmare when you were carrying an artful of files!!

I lived in a block of flats when I was little - I got stuck in the lift on my own when I was four! I couldn’t reach the buttons and banged the doors and shouted for help until a postie heard me and let me out. I was terrified of lifts for years, but gradually made myself get over it!

Lahlah65, why on earth were you all on your own in a lift when you were so young? Where was your Mum?

I worked in a hospital and got stuck in a lift with a patient in a wheelchair. The lift was only between two floors but got stuck in the middle of them. I pressed the alarm several times and no one came so I had to start shouting for help. Eventually a coupe of maintenance men came along and forced the doors open but of course I still couldn't get out and leave my patient. They eventually got the lift to ground level.

Just cancelled a holiday at a hotel in Mojacar Spain with a leading Britih package holiday company .

l have walking problems and needed a lift to go up and down from my room to all floors and areas

Apparently. the only way you could get up and down to the reception area was by using 12 stairs.

Or get this. To use a Scissor lift, about 15 feet from the ground
which was really meant for luggage.
And was always bteaking down and poorly maintained

Things could be worse.

Could you use your mobile to ring the Police or Fire Brigade if a lift breaks down on you?
