Why Is It??

That some women gave up wearing stockings & suspenders in favour of tights, and yet some women still wear them, is it because they are so uncomfortable to wear, or just too fiddly to put on, or is it more women seem to wear trousers now?
I'll probably get shot down for posting this lol

There’s nothing actually wrong with the comments made by two male contributors on here, and certainly nothing worth reporting.Remember also this forum isn’t just for women.
For myself….am now having a lovely fantasy about a male hunk shaving while wearing a collarless shirt with sleeves rolled up and braces/ suspenders.Do I have to come back to the real world yet?🤭

🤣🤣🤣

Oh Dear Me!
Nobody has to read this thread, let alone contribute.

For what it is worth, I hated suspenders and stockings (does anyone remember men wearing sock suspenders; my father did?), and fondly recall buying my first pair of sheer tights, price nineteen shillings and eleven pence, to wear under my Courreges style dress which did not cover my knees.

I really cannot believe that anyone contributed to this thread.

Did nobody think that a man on a predominately female forum asking about stockings and suspenders was a little suspect?

Last year when this post was active and MickyT started to post on other dodgy matters I called him out and he retreated thankfully.

SimonP your wife must have been digging deep to find this thread, she showed it to you and you then joined the forum to comment.

Please think ladies before you leap in.

I didn’t think of it like that but you could be right. However, judging by the ages of most of us on here any man getting his thrills from a thread like this must be a bit desperate. 🙄

I have REPORTED the thread. I’m flabbergasted that anyone responded to it in the first place.

I did wonder too ... but I think he is a longstanding contributor.

I’m sure I reported it to last year.

Micky T at one Pont was trying to use Gransnet as dating service, very odd.

I showed this thread to my husband for a male opinion.

My husband is a true gentleman, he was appalled at Simon and Mickey and like me amazed that anyone was naive enough to respond.

Because they are the work of the devil ... i.e designed by a man!

In my teens it was a Little X, a sort of elastic girdle even though I was built like a beanpole. Then I had suspender belts.I had longer than average legs which meant my stockings always came to a sharp point where they fastened and my legs were ' spring loaded'

Quite.
Sometimes a whole thread should disappear. The thought of MickeyT or SimonP salivating over women in stockings is something I do not need to contemplate.

I will wear suspenders when my husband wears shirt stays.

Oh SimonT you sound so old fashioned, trousers can be just as feminine as a skirt, we re not talking about ‘men style’ trousers, but lovely flowing wide legged, fantastic pattern, floaty trousers for summer and dungies or jeans or flares for the winter. Patterns, colours, different weights, different materials. Oh dear meet us in the C21st

(Oops, sorry for misspelling your name MickyT)

Cabbie21 Sun 31-May-26 08:35:05

Coincidentally, this morning I have put tights on. I am wearing a dark coloured dress so can’t really wear my posh white trainers with them. My feet are not comfortable without socks or tights and, except in a heatwave, they are always cold. So today, it’s tights.
Like most Grans, I haven’t worn stockings since tights were invented, thankfully.

My wife showed me this thread, we are both genuinely surprised by the responses.

Three of our female friends often wear stockings and suspenders and always when dressing up, as does my wife. They all hate tights, find that hold-ups fall down or give them a rash, and prefer to look feminine rather than wear trousers all the time so they choose to wear stockings. They have all said that with a proper suspender belt they are perfectly comfortable and each of them wears them because they like them and feel good in them, not just to please their other halves.

I'm sure you're thinking that I'm just some guy fantasising but I assure you this is true (all are or have been members of StockingsHQ and have the confidence to admit to their preference) so Mickey, keep looking, they are out there.

No you are right I have female friends and relatives who live in skirts and dresses and in the winter will wear tights, or stockings if dressing up to go somewhere.

Fallingstar Sun 31-May-26 08:30:29

Trousers or shorts. I never wear stockings or tights, haven’t done so for decades.

Very understandable MOnica you do need to keep warm

M0nica Sun 06-Jul-25 09:58:33

As I said, I wear tights of some kind most of the year. Socks do not keep your calves and thighs warm.

Come to that in winter I wear fingerless gloves indoors as well as I have Reynauds Syndrome in my fingers.

MickyT Sun 06-Jul-25 09:11:02

Well Dickens it's certainly not a positive for stockings and suspenders, but I do understand all the reasons why they're not worn anymore, except maybe for a very few women, and why do they still wear them? if the majority are so not liking them
