Today I’m taking a parasol!

Aka an umbrella! You so often see them used like this in habitually hot countries.
After a 1.5+ hour drive we will have a 10 minute very hot walk to the venue for a concert (choirs and orchestras) where Gdd1 is singing.
So I don’t think my sun hat is going to cut it!

Very elegant 🙂

Such a good idea I always think, but never remember to buy one.

I agree, in this heat you take whatever keeps you from burning.
and enjoy the concert

"I'm a ladee" from the Tv show Little Britain springs to mind, whenever anyone mentions a parasol. 😄

I'm another who uses an umbrella as a parasol. Maybe, as we now seem to have regular heatwaves, proper parasols will be manufactured again.
That really would be nice.

I have a Chinese paper one from about 1970/72.
Very pretty but sadly cracked now.

I have a small neat pale grey sun umbrella/parasol made by a well known umbrella maker whose name escapes me. Very effective. Slips in my handbag. Essential to protect vulnerable skin post chemo. Protects heads and hair if too hot for a hat.

In Durham we have a lot of Chinese and Japanese students. The majority of them wear face masks when outside. In cool weather, they’re wrapped up from head to foot and in summer, they carry umbrellas against the sun.

DGS2 had football lesson outside today, as it was too hot indoors. Luckily DD2 had sunscreen and a hat to hand.

I used a pretty pink and white spot umbrella as a parasol yesterday and it really helped my DD laughed at me but noted she kept borrowing it😂

We've got one, in the attic somewhere.

Also known as a Wanchai Burberry!

An off topic PS - despite leaving in LOADS of time (outer SW London to Oxford) we had a horrendous drive - junction between M25 and M40 (usual route) was closed due to a multi-vehicle crash, so everything ground to a halt.

Thanks to a road atlas in the car I quickly found an alternative via the M4, which we thought would be far too congested in the circs, and at first the M4 was, so fearing that we’d never make it, we contemplated turning round and going home.

But thank goodness the traffic did thin, and we made it - not from the start, but at least in time to hear most of Gdd’s choir. 🙂

There are some beautiful parasols on that site NotSpaghetti, very tempting!
