I went to see their farewell show last week which has since got me thinking about who I've missed out on seeing in the past due to lack of funds. Oh I so regret not being able to have seen Abba, Marc Bolan, George Michael, Victoria Wood. My list is a bit longer than that. Who did you miss out on?

Seen Bowie many times but never as Ziggy Stardust unfortunately

All of my work colleagues went to see Bowie in Manchester but I didn’t fancy going…

Johnny Mathis. My friend and I ‘discovered’ him when he first started. We thought he was wonderful, and now, at the age of 79, I still do.
My tastes in music vary so much. I love ballads, some Country, Neil Diamond, Elvis, Classical music, and ‘easy listening’. I still love many songs from my youth. I have adult children and grandchildren of various ages, so I get introduced to lots of different sounds. It’s good, because I feel it keeps me young when I hear all the things they listen to.

We thought £1.80 a ticket was a bit steep, so didn't bother going to see... Queen 🤦🏻🙄

We've seen them twice since with Adam Lambert. Cost somewhat more 😂

It wasn't due to lack of funds but l had to leave Glastonbury in 2000, just before Bowie took to the stage.

When I was teaching I used to go on the annual week long residential with Y6.

One year, during the residential week, U2 were playing in Manchester, and a group of the Y6 parents went to see them - made easier for them because their children were safe with us teachers in Wales.

I loved U2 and would have loved to see them but, of course, I couldn’t🤷‍♀️

That’s dedication for you!

Made even worse, on our return, by the parents telling me how fantastic the U2 gig wasangry

When my kids were tiny, I missed out on a Queen concert. My parents were staying at the time and it would not have been right to leave them alone with them as we didn't see them often. They would never have understood or approved of me going to a pop.concert.

I had bought tickets for a joint concert that Elton John and Billy Joel were giving in Munich. I was going to work out how to get there and where to stay (a bit far to come straight home again) when the time came. Then I heard that they had fallen out and Elton dropped out, saying he had flu. After that it seemed too much of a hassle, and I didn't go., as much as I admire Billy Joel. So that was DM200 I never got back.

We had tickets to see Richard Ashcroft and Pearl Jam last year and it was cancelled 😞

I have seen loads of comedians over the years but would like to see more music but my husband point blank refuses to go to anything ‘big’

Missed not going to see Michael Jackson when he was performing locally. Children were very little. I opened my windows to listen to him!

It costs hundreds of dollars now to see the big stars here. We used to think $25 was expensive back on the day. Often the old ones like Cliff Richard come out here but I prefer to remember them in their hey day and not see them when they are past it.

Had tickets for Jimi Hendrix concert back in the sixties, but it was a freezing cold night and for once, boyfriend and I had the house to ourselves, my parents were out! Regretted it ever since!

Nellbell Tue 15-Jul-25 08:48:49

Clawdy - that's made me chuckle!

I wanted to see Queen, but my mobility was such that I couldn't stand for 10 minutes, let alone two hours or more. I do enjoy Adam Lambert, but I have never seen him.

Kate1949 Tue 15-Jul-25 13:11:26

I've seen many - Beatles and many 70s stars, Elton, Cliff, Don McLean, Paul McCartney solo, Michael Bublé, lots more. I would love to have seen Elvis when he was at his peak.

Maria Callas. When she appeared at the Royal OperaHouse in the early 1960s I couldn’t afford £5 for a ticket. It was a lot of money then, and I was still a student. I’ve always regretted it, though.

Deedaa Tue 15-Jul-25 13:23:18

I saw most of the big ones in the 60s, Tickets seemed much more affordable then. I saw Paul McCartney when he was touring in 2001 I think it was, and I saw Roger Taylor in Truro in the 90s, although he was rather disappointing to be honest. Actually my best memory is someone I never expected to see. There was a charity concert at the Albert Hall in the late 60s and one of the celebrities had to cancel. The surprise replacement turned out to be Sammy Davis Jr who was just brilliant. My mother was SO jealous when I got home!

Kate1949 Tue 15-Jul-25 13:30:01

Ten bob for my Beatles ticket in the '60s. My sisters are lifelong Rod Stewart fans and have seen him every time he has come to Birmingham except for the last time. The first time they saw him in the '70s the tickets were £1. This time the prices were so outrageous they wouldn't go on principle which was a shame.

Judy54 Tue 15-Jul-25 13:37:11

I saw the Beatles and also Luciano Pavarotti ( I have quite a wide taste in music). Regrettably I never got to see Queen my favourite group of all time.

Marmin Tue 15-Jul-25 13:52:01

I bought tickets to see Queen a month or so before Bohemian Rhapsody was released. It was number 1 when the gig came round. I do remember Freddie emerging for the encore wearing a very brief pair,of red silk shorts, throwing single roses to the audience. I remember thinking at the time: 'this is a bold look for Wolverhampton.'

knspol Tue 15-Jul-25 14:14:33

Been to lots of concerts but would have loved to have seen Elvis live. Did get to see a show with his band playing live and videos of him performing the same songs alongside them - sounds naff but actually was good.

We went to ABBA Voyage this weekend and it was brilliant. I'm not a great ABBA fan but it felt authentic.

LeslieL Tue 15-Jul-25 14:30:19

ABBA Voyage is fantastic. Try it, like a Time Machine and going back to 1970’s

Susieq62 Tue 15-Jul-25 14:41:37

I regret not seeing Queen or Bowie live on stage. I do hope to see Springsteen before it is too late for both of us.
I tried to get tickets to see Coldplay again but failed. However, I always go to watch Elbow in concert %!

Bazza Tue 15-Jul-25 15:11:04

We had VIP tickets for Live Aid 40 years ago, but I decided I didn’t want to go because I’m not great with crowds or standing too long, and it was also a very hot day. I don’t regret much in my life but I do regret not going and just coping!
