I told my 7 year old GD that I will be 80 this year. That’s very old isn’t it’, I said. She replied, ‘Of course not, 100 is very old!’ Bless her. Hope for me yet then!

I've just come down some rather steep stairs very slowly and carefully, hanging onto the rail on one side.

I remember when I was little thinking my grandmother was so old and she must have been younger than I am now
And when my mother announced she was expecting at 37 I thought they can’t still be doing that 😂 now at 66 I can’t believe I’m a great grandmother where have all those years gone because I still feel about 30 until I try to get out of my chair with my achey bones and look in the mirror

At a month short of 82. My eldest grandchild has only just left school. I trust she will not have children until she is at least 30. We take our time about having children in our family.

As a child my Granny looked practically decrepit but was only in her 70's. We are fortunate these days to benefit from better medication and healthcare and more awareness of nutrition and exercise. Many of us will have bought our own homes and be mortgage free with disposable income which opens the door to holidays and treats without the worry of paying the bills. I am 78 next birthday and consider my generation have been very fortunate.

I don't think I looked sexy in my 20s or 30s let alone in my 50s.

M0nica I disagree that we can’t look younger than our actual age. With subtle tweaks, and I mean subtle and clever, years can be shed.
Obviously I agree that underneath we are still the age we are, but why not? We don’t have to end up looking ridiculous.

What I mean is that how people look at a given age is immensely variable. I come from a family that, genetically age slowly.

My cousin in her mid 70s has only recently started to go grey and has an unlined face. Anyone looking at her may well assume she is in her 60s. But that doesn't mean she looks young for her age merely that she has aged well compared with other women her age, some of whom will be white haired, frail with lined faces and could be assumed to be older thaan they are.

We need to stop ageing people, especially old people by how they look.

I might add that most people who indulge in 'subtle' tweaks always look as if they have had something done.

That ridiculous couple the Bezos, look so honed and trimmed they look as if they have been plasticised that it screams that they must be much older than they are trying to look. Mt Bezos looks quite literally like d*ck-head.

One thing that can IMO be ageing - not that people can necessarily help it - is IMO posture and the way you walk.

A colleague once told me how she’d seen what looked like a very elderly woman some way of her on the pavement - a somewhat tottering walk, head bent down, etc.

She was shocked on getting closer to realise that it was another of our colleagues, almost the same age (very early 60s then) as both of us!

I'm inclined to think elegant is a more appropriate thing once one gets into 50's or maybe one can do outre and "fun" once even older than that.

Thankthelawd that I don't look "the age I am" now - as I feel thousands of years old personally (though I am someone who believes in reincarnation personally - so goodness only knows how old I am in that regard - other than thousands of years old). I can take the joke a friend made recently to me of "Oh no - Earth again.....no....no....please no...I refuse" and I tell everyone I'm on my last life here - as I'm not stupid or masochistic enough to come back again.

My hair probably looks younger than my age, since I’ve never gone grey. It’s genetic - my mother still wasn’t properly grey when she died at 97. Hers just faded from what they used to call strawberry blonde - still golden when she was 80 - to an eventual greyish mouse.

However I’m sure my face doesn’t - 13 years in baking Middle Eastern climates is hardly the best thing for dewy looking skin in your 70s!

I didn’t know anything about the new Mrs Bezos but all I could see ,apart from her bosom which was mostly very much on display, was how much work she must have had done on her face.

Actually that applied to both Mr and Mrs Bezos, his scraped unnaturally pink expressionless face showed that he too had been subject to excessive rejuvenation treatments.

The silly thing is that these people think that they kid people by all this dolling up. All they do is make themselves laughing stocks.

We are all the age we are and we cannot hold, back time by a single millisecond. Their bodies underneath all there superficial tarting up will be aging in a way dictated by their genetic make-up and how they have led their lives for the previous 60 plus/minus years. I wonder how many pills Mr Bezos takes each morning for high blood pressure, cholesterol or any of the other ills that beset some people of his age.

I was in a queue in shop having just had a blow dry. A woman bebhnd me, a complete stranger said " oh excuse me, I love your hair, it takes years off you" it was so funny. I wanted to say ' tell me how old you think i am and I'll tell you if it makes me look younger'.

I look at the new "Mrs Bezos" and think "One can't really do sexy at that age - ie 50's"...and she feels a bit "overdone" to me..

Maybe the feeling of age sets in a bit when one thinks "In God's waiting room" about oneself. I try to just be "Me"....but am very conscious I've got about 10 years left now and so must count as "in the waiting room". Mind you - in my case - I shall be extremely annoyed if I get to mid-80's and think "I'm still here! Darn it". (bearing in mind average British woman lives to 82 years 10 months I gather) and I don't want longer than average (even if someone promised me they'd "reset the clock" back to the normal society of the 1980s).

Thinks - I might be about to look up "Pears and ponds" though when I head to Tesco in a minute.....

The town I live is is popular with retirees and has been called 'God's waiting room' in the past. We have a few of these signs around

I was in a shop the other day with my DH. He mentioned to the owner that it was my birthday. She asked how old I was and I didn't really want to say. I am not vain but I thought it was a bit much a stranger asking me. Maybe I am just weird! My DH told her how old I was - 68. She said, 'Guess how old I am'. I hate it when people do this. They must know that people will not tell the truth and will knock a few years off. I said, 'About the same age as me'. She was smart with a grey bob. Turns out she was 72 - and very proudly thought she looked younger than her age.

My mother looked younger than her age in her 70's. Her hair had stayed naturally dark which I think helped.

I think being slimmer and not 'matronly' also helps. Grannies always seem to be stout and white haired in my grandson's picture books.

I had a doctor's appointment the other day. He asked my age (68). He said I looked very good for my age. I was quite surprised at this. Mind you, he was probably comparing me with other patients who were not in good health! I think I look my age. I don't dress 'old' or 'young' for that matter. I don't wear makeup but do try to make sure my hair always looks OK.

All of the famous people who have surgery must realise that they don't look younger after their surgery. They just look weird. Jeff Bezo's new wife was really pretty when she was younger. Now she has that weird wide mouth look that seems to happen when they have surgery

Meryl Streep (76) looks great for her age. I am sure she must have a fantastic surgeon hidden away somewhere.

My mum always referred to the "wreck of the 'Esperus". It was years before I found out it was actually spelt with an 'H' ......

My mum would often look in the mirror and say (with a Yorkshire accent) ‘I look like t’wreck o’t’Esperus!’ (The t’ being a glottal stop and not sounded in the Yorkshire dialect).

As a child I had no idea what the Hesperus was and thought she was saying ‘express’. I had visions of an enormous steam train crashing and coming off the rails. It was quite a revelation when I found out much later in life what it really was.

I’m 64 so I am not so old yet, but I hate it when people say “wow you look good for your age!”. The right answer is of course “wow you look good”. I don’t care at all about being older. I don’t care about the adjective “old”. It’s just a word. Same as “young” is just an adjective. I wear my hair silver (which suits me and I love it). I eat healthily and I exercise (when I am shamed into it). I wear very glam but classy clothes and I have interests and hobbies. I don’t feel any different physically and I have improved mentally, I think. Life’s good. Yep, I sound smug, but I am just glad to be in relatively good health and surrounded by people who love me and I love back.
PS I think Rod Stewart looks the same as he did in his twenties/thirties, but I think he looked 80 back then.

It was very good for my ego when, on two separate occasions, nurses expressed surprise when they saw my age, saying they would have thought I was much younger. However, when recently we took our GD aged 7 into a cafe and the owner asked “is she your granddaughter or great granddaughter” ego was rapidly deflated!

Is that all Bestgramma? In 6 weeks I'll have 11 years on you!

In 4 weeks I will be 75.

Not so much about how I look, but I wish I had her energy
