Bucketing down! The first for many weeks.

Oreo Sat 19-Jul-25 13:39:51

A bit of a drizzle here this morning but nothing since.Still humid and muggy as I prepare to go off to work now.😠

Georgesgran Sat 19-Jul-25 13:43:57

Bit of drizzle here in Durham. Nothing to get excited about. Muggy and very warm.

Can anyone hear the sound of marching feet?

Millions of slugs and snails.

Thank goodness I live on the 8th floor of an apartment block. Spiders would have to be Superman to get up here (I haven’t seen any so far, anyway!). I hate slugs, snails and spiders, all of which visited me in abundance at my previous houses, and I don’t get any of them here! It’s worth the exorbitant maintenance charge and the useless ‘management’ company (a misnomer if ever there was one!) just to have this lovely view and freedom from unwanted pests.

It rained overnight, I know because the balcony was wet when I got up, but it’s not too bad now. It’s cloudy though so we might be in for more. My family will be pleased if we do get more as they have gardens. I only have a pot of lavender and I can cope with that myself!

Online bbc weather says rain all week in london.

Visgir1 Sat 19-Jul-25 15:15:31

My favourite type of rain, rain over night brilliant sunshine now.

Mollygo Sat 19-Jul-25 17:31:04

Our rain currently occurs the minute we take our dog for a walk.
Early morning trot-light shower as we set off, developing into a downpour as we reached the fields.
Sainsbury’s? Dry
Lunchtime promenade - drizzle once we were away from the house.
Library, Curry’s, Gym, no rain. We usually do a walk about 7 o’clock, but right now it’s fine. I wonder, should we change our habit?

Aely Sat 19-Jul-25 17:35:30

We got another shower just after I had hung out my washing, of course, about an hour ago. It looked promising, big juicy drops, but petered out after a couple of minutes. Mind you, we got as much in those minutes as in a couple of hours previously.

Ziplok Sat 19-Jul-25 18:36:05

That’s the word SueDonim, thank you 😁.

HowVeryDareYou2 Sat 19-Jul-25 19:04:40

It rained almost all day yesterday (Nottingham) and part of today. It's still muggy, though.

Jane43 Sat 19-Jul-25 19:11:31

We have had just a few drops, we really need a good downpour.

SueDonim Sat 19-Jul-25 19:26:15

I hope they have good weather insurance, Luckygirl!

I took myself to the local garden centre this afternoon. By the time I walked there and back in my raincoat I felt as though I’d had a sauna. grin. It’s steady rain now and looks like a November afternoon, though much warmer. The garden will be very happy, though.

emmasnan Sat 19-Jul-25 19:29:09

No rain here in my part of Dorset for weeks, some is promised this evening though.

We chose this Spring to plant up new flower beds, not our best idea its been a problem keeping things alive. Lets hope the forecast is right tonight.

Deedaa Sat 19-Jul-25 19:54:03

We had some overnight, but nothing like enough.

AmberGran Sat 19-Jul-25 20:15:14

Had a lovely downpour last night here in NW Surrey and it carried on raining reasonably well all morning. So lovely to have some rain at last, can't remember the last time we had some. More tonight hopefully. And even more hopefully more on Monday.

Our gardens look like deserts so maybe they will green up a bit now.

watermeadow Sat 19-Jul-25 20:16:22

Here we have had minimal rain since March began. Every time rain is forecast we get a brief light shower or nothing at all. The threatened thunderstorms will also miss us as it rarely thunders here.
We have the expected watering ban starting on Tuesday and Facebook is full of indignant fools saying they’ve paid for water and Thames Water is appalling so they will ignore the ban. Meanwhile our precious chalk stream is running dry.
I can’t carry cans of water around my garden so am praying for heavy rain for the next three months.

Oreo Sat 19-Jul-25 23:03:30

Got wet going to work today but for once didn’t mind, it’s cooled it down a treat.😃

Gingster Sat 19-Jul-25 23:15:24

We had rain during the night. Some light showers through the morning and disappeared early afternoon. Forecast was for rain all day. The sun came out and was a lovely afternoon.

We don’t get our fair share here in Essex. 😢

cornergran Sat 19-Jul-25 23:31:49

No rain here. The weather app has just told me it will stop in an hour - that would be good if it had started. There’s time yet and it may be a case of be careful what you wish for!

wildrose Sat 19-Jul-25 23:37:19

I don't think we need any more until Autumn here in the N.E.! smile

madeleine45 Sun 20-Jul-25 06:59:10

For the neighbours who think I am quite batty, their opinion is confirmed as they see me watering the garden in the rain!! Well if they confirm rain is coming I go out early and do it. When the ground is so dry, all the much needed rain can just run away across the top. If you water the borders etc a bit, it breaks down that dry crust and the rain can go in where it is much needed. I do have some washing that wants drying but never mind, lets have the much needed rain to really soak into the soil and give all the plants and especially the trees that have been struggling, some much needed water. Lets get those water butts filled up.

Athrawes Sun 20-Jul-25 11:21:37

I don't mind rain as long as I don't have to go out but I cringe when I've got to make the effort and leave my fortress. I have to admit the trees and plants have really needed some water though

Ziplok Sun 20-Jul-25 12:52:56

Heavy showers here again today, I’m pleased to say. We really do need the water.
Some of those individuals might not be so indignant if they get slapped with a £1000 fine. Yes, it’s inconvenient having to use watering cans, but we really need to try to be better at conserving what we have (including the water companies) and using what we do have wisely. The reservoirs near us are alarmingly low.

JamesandJon33 Sun 20-Jul-25 14:37:36

It rained here in SWWales, for most of the night. Two very heavy showers around six, but now the sun is out and it is warm . Rain forecast for tomorrow though

DamaskRose Sun 20-Jul-25 14:45:16

No rain here for weeks in the north east of Scotland, rained overnight and heavily most of the morning. Wonderful! 😊
