In *soop’s absence I’ve opened the door, fluffed the cushions and replenished the buffer.
Blossoming you have more patience than me with that bracelet, how delicate.
Tough times SueD I hope today went well for Thursday.
Yesterday’s quiz was a record 54 in attendance, not bad for a village on a Monday, we caught up with quiz mates, but failed to get in the top three. Before that I went to see a physiotherapist and came away with a bunch of knee exercises, I’ve crepitus apparently!
Today was washing, managed to whip it in before some rain unexpectedly came down.
With 🌹to soop and others struggling.

Grannmarie I am so sorry to hear your sad news. Sudden death is devastating. My heartfelt condolences to your family.
My thoughts are with so many of you in the kitchen who are sad and under stress.
At 9am I have a taxi booked to take me to the solicitor's office. I'm dropping off the completed forms regarding the house I am buying.
Later I'm meeting a friend for coffee and cake.
Yesterday I spent time removing picture hooks and filling in the holes. I use ready mixed filler in a tube.....so easy.
Keeping you all in my thoughts. flowers

Sorry to hear such sad news grannmarie, far too young, sending condolences to all the family

A worry for you Jax I hope your DH is feeling much better soon, your friend too
Hope you can rest your hand GG it sounds really sore
Hoping for the best possible scan results SueD in the meantime enjoy your time away together

Such a lot of sad and worrying news in the kitchen at the moment, thinking of everyone going through such difficult times x

Ladyleftfieldlover Sun 17-Aug-25 22:40:52

Hello kitchen people.

Seems to be a lot of difficult news in the kitchen tonight. I’m thinking of you all.

I’ve had a fairly quiet day. I read all the papers. For dinner I cooked a Finnish salmon soup. It is delicious.

Sleep 💤 tight.

Redcar Sun 17-Aug-25 22:33:47

grannmarie what a dreadful shock for your DH’s family, so sorry for your loss.
I hope your DH recovers soon jaxjacky, a concerning time for you.
SueD such a long time to have to wait for the results of your DH’s scan. I hope you can put it to the back of your mind for a few weeks.
A very anxious kitchen this evening. Night night everyone.

SueDonim Sun 17-Aug-25 22:33:02

Oh how awful, Grandmarie and what a terrible shock. flowers

I’m sorry Dh isn’t too good, Jax. Might it be Covid, which is around again? I had a stonking temp when I had it last month.

Grannmarie Sun 17-Aug-25 21:46:26

Thinking of the Soops and FGTs 💕🙏💕

We received heartbreaking news today, DH'S niece's husband died suddenly, he's only in his forties. His wife and sons are in shock, he was such a great support to her after she was on a ventilator for months with Covid. So very sad.

Thinking of all with worries, illness or sorrow. Take care. NNGB.

Blossoming Sun 17-Aug-25 21:14:14

Hope MrJ is feeling better now Jax, what a worry for you.

SueDonim Sun 17-Aug-25 21:13:50

Poor you, UTBB - I wonder if you had a lucid dream or sleep paralysis? They can give you very unsettling dreams. thanks

I’m sorry the FGT’s are struggling. This is such a difficult road to walk. flowers

Grannygravy have you tried an ice pack on your insect bite? I used to use them when we lived abroad and got bitten by all manner of monstrous critters. It takes the itch away temporarily.

What is it with kids wearing their hoods up in these temperatures, Brook? Even more so when they’re riding bikes/skateboards! They obviously haven’t seen ET because they’d stop if they had. grin

Yesterday my Dh had another scan. It was a beautiful day and I assume the general population was out taking advantage of it because the Walk In unit and scanning dept were deserted. We were there almost an hour and not one other patient appeared. Results in September, going to try and forget about it until then.

We then went up to beautiful Loch Tay for the afternoon and had a wander around. It’s quite fancy nowadays compared to forty years ago, but I guess that’s the nature of progress. Today has been home admin jobs and a trip to M&S to cool down with their aircon and have an iced latte, then a small shop. We’re going away to our son’s later this week so we’re eating out of the fridge and freezer, for the most part.

Wishing you a peaceful night. Xxxx

Jaxjacky Sun 17-Aug-25 21:06:12

Oh no GG13 that’s a nuisance, I hope it gets better soon.
I’ve had a worrisome day, MrJ, who was recovering, said he felt very faint this afternoon - we were in the pub for meat draw, one mouthful of beer, I took him home, paracetamol, he was very hot.
My friend I went lunch with on Wednesday was hospitalised on Thursday, she has E. coli, they can’t find the internal infection site. They will be taking here to another hospital for a special scan, she sounded wobbly this morning and in pain.
Others have bigger issues - FGT and soop hugs to both x

GrannyGravy13 Sun 17-Aug-25 19:51:42

Evening kitchen friends, DD and her boys have left, the 10yr old left his phone here. As soon as he realised he cycled back to get it.

I have collapsed on the sofa, I am feeling a bit sorry for myself. I got bitten by a bug of some sort on Friday evening on my hand. I have had a rather nasty reaction, part of my hand and wrist is swollen, red and hot.

I am mainlining antihistamines along with ibuprofen if there is no improvement in the morning I will pop into the local pharmacy.

Wishing you all a good night 🙋‍♀️

Thinking of my dearest pen pal 😘

Redcar Sun 17-Aug-25 19:42:21

A lovely sunny day here with a cool breeze. I went out for my usual walk this morning and met up with my dog walking friends. I joined them on the bench for a chat then carried on round the recreation ground. As I was passing a friend’s house, she called me in for a coffee, so more chatting in the garden. It was very pleasant. Once home I got the washing machine going to make use of the half price electricity. Also cooked some sauce for a spicy sausage dish, enough for tonight and some for the freezer.
This afternoon DD2 and family called in and did a few things for me. The grandchildren played with some of the Lego and the Fisher Price play school, both belonged to my DDs!
luluaugust I hope your DGS is showing signs of improvement now.
utbb I hope you’re feeling a bit more settled after your nightmare! llfl I hope your thumb hasn’t been too painful today.
Have a peaceful evening everyone.

brook2704 Sun 17-Aug-25 18:26:42

I’ll second that Blossoming, it’s a bit late to post on the GM thread but wanted to wish the FGTs all the very best x

Blossoming Sun 17-Aug-25 12:32:53

So sorry to see in the GM thread that things are not too good for the FGT2s at the moment. Sending love and strength your way ♥️

Ladyleftfieldlover Sat 16-Aug-25 22:52:11

Hello kitchen people.

I’m pleased to hear that some in the sick bay are recovering, but sad that others aren’t - yet. I’m thinking of the Soops.

OH and I had a good day. Lunch at my favourite restaurant first. Then we had to collect some ‘medicine’ for OH’s bee hives. Finally some shopping including buying some new sunglasses for me.

My thumb still isn’t the best. It is arthritis which I had in my other thumb a few years ago. A couple of cortisone injections delivered by the GP did the trick. If it flares up again I wear a support thing which eases it after a few days. Now though, with the other thumb it is a whole different story. I had a telephone consultation last week with a health worker. Next Friday another telephone consultation is booked, this time with a physiotherapist. He will determine if I need an injection or not. If so, I will be given an appointment for a month (or even two months) to see the visiting cortisone injection expert. None of the GPs do them now. It might be that I end up going privately somewhere. Anyway…

Sleep 💤 tight.

Blossoming Sat 16-Aug-25 22:12:32

Hope you are feeling a bit better after your scary experience utbb. These things can feel so real!

The BP continues to behave itself, I’m very relieved it’s back on track. Any future attempts to mess up my drug régime will be firmly repelled. I was quite ill while all this was happening, I’d never have let them get away with it otherwise!

Good night all, TOYA ♥️

Grannmarie Sat 16-Aug-25 21:37:49

Redcar, I hope your daughter enjoyed her event in Edinburgh, Thursday was a lovely sunny day.
Grandmabatty, I hope you've got your feet up and your ankles are a bit more comfortable. I recently rediscovered my ankles when the GP changed my BP medication.
brook, hope you and Mrb are enjoying the peace and quiet after all your visitors.

I'm heading towards the sofa now with a chilled glass of SB, I'm hooked on The Last Kingdom, Netflix drama about the Viking occupation in the late 800s, time of King Arthur. I'm late to the party, I think it was made about 10 years ago, but I like historical drama and it's a good distraction. 📺 👀

luluaugust Sat 16-Aug-25 20:24:20

Thank you Redcar, DGS is struggling a bit to eat and with the antibiotics after his op. His mum and dad and brothers are with him so hoping another nights sleep will help him.

Grannmarie Sat 16-Aug-25 20:18:51

Good evening, lovely Kitchen people. 👋 🥰

Thinking of the Soops, FGTS, Gillgran, SueD and YiaYia and their DHs, and all with illness, worries or sorrow.
Good to hear that Blossoming's BP is behaving and Ladyleftfieldlover's thumb is less painful. I hope UsedToBeBlonde is feeling more settled after her disturbing dream, MrJax recovers quickly, and lulu's DGS gets home soon. Forgive me if I've missed you, I'm TOYA.

We had a great day at the Edinburgh Book Festival, GDS1 met up with us in the courtyard beer gardens between events, it was great to see him. Julian Clary was entertaining, interviewed by Susan Calman, and we enjoyed the Judy Murray interview, she is so enthusiastic about bringing tennis to as many youngsters as possible, and particularly to women in countries where this has not been the norm. I think Riyadh was mentioned, my hearing isn't the best just now. We met her briefly at the book signing and had our photos taken!

DGD went back to school on Wednesday, she's now in 3rd year. The Wee Boy begins Primary 2 on Monday, time flies.

A day at home, after all my gallivanting, let me catch up on the mountain of washing. I got three loads, bedding, towels and clothes, all washed and dried. I had to put two clothes horses on the patio cos the whirly was full. I had a delicious brunch of toasted bagels with scrambled eggs and smoked salmon. I've made a big pot of lentil soup, some for tomorrow and some for the freezer. I've sat for an hour on the garden bench doing puzzles and Duolingo, managed to avoid the sofa siesta today. I need to work on my 😴 patterns.

Wishing everyone a peaceful Saturday evening and a good night's sleep. NNGB.

brook2704 Sat 16-Aug-25 20:17:33

Hi kitchen pals, we’ve had a gorgeous sunny afternoon up here, just perfect, no breeze and a clear blue sky
So sorry to hear your DH is poorly Jax hope he picks up a bit tomorrow and you can both enjoy the weekend
I thought I’d be having a quiet day but DD2 and DGS called in this afternoon and we all sat outside in the garden for a while. Despite it bring very warm snd sunny, DGS still had his hoodie on with his hood up, he’d had his haircut last week ready for school on Tuesday and apparently it’s too short 🤣 I didn’t get to see DGD today as she was back to her Saturday dance class and then her dad picked her up. I also created a bit more space in the garage by selling 6 dining chairs that had been stored in our garage since DD2 moved. She’d bought new ones and didn’t want them back so we’ve bit more space in the garage again now before she gives me something else to sell 🙄
So lovely both your DDs live close to each other and get on Redcar, not quite the same with my two although we muddle through without any major fallouts
Hope you’re resting with your feet up grandmabatty you’re always so busy and deserve a rest, hope the ankle swelling goes down overnight
Thinking of everyone in the quiet corner especially our Soop, take care all x

Redcar Sat 16-Aug-25 19:38:47

It’s been cloudy and cool here today, until about 6 o’clock, when the sky cleared. We now have blue sky and sunshine, but still a cool breeze. I hope it will be cooler indoors tonight, I might get more than four hours sleep if it’s cooler.
I went mad this morning and washed the car! It wasn’t even on my ‘to do’ list, but does look a bit better.

I hope Mr J is feeling better now and that lulu’s DGS will soon be home after his operation.

brook DD2 is very capable, she and DD1 have always got on well and now live close to each other, so their daughters see a lot of each other too. She does deserve a medal for looking after all of them! Today I think they’ve all been in London (DD1 included).
grandmabatty I hope your ankles improve overnight.

Have a pleasant evening everyone.

Grandmabatty Sat 16-Aug-25 18:38:52

Poor Mr J. I hope he feels better soon. I met a friend for breakfast who kindly paid because of my bank card issues. We blethered for nearly three hours. Then, after I took her home, I hung out my washing. We've had a lovely sunny day here and the washing dried really quickly. Tesco delivered in the afternoon and I gave the fridge a quick clean and a clear out. Then I started the laborious process of moving stuff from the dining room back to the living room. I'm having a swollen ankles day and my feet are sore, so I won't do much. Enjoy your evening Kitcheners

Jaxjacky Sat 16-Aug-25 18:07:27

Pressed post to quickly…
Hugs to the soops and anyone else that fancies one 🥰

Jaxjacky Sat 16-Aug-25 18:00:16

Hi all, the brilliant ☀️ forecast today didn’t materially, it’s been cloudy, but warm and breezy so washing dried.
My daughter picked up grandson at 8 for football training, I ran Imogen home later. MrJ has been poorly sick overnight, still feeling fragile, no idea why, he’s having a rough week with a stinking cold too.
So I got on, pickled the beetroot and have tomato sauce simmering away in the slow cooker - read some of the paper too, it’s my weekly treat.
I hope you’ve been fine today utbb and slept well.
Enjoy your evening all.

brook2704 Sat 16-Aug-25 00:10:42

Oh so sorry to hear that Uttb it sounds really upsetting, I hope you’re feeling a bit better now, take it easy for a few days
A busy house Jax, I hope your son is doing ok since they split up, it’s never easy. Well done to Imogen for success in her first year in Criminology - what an interesting subject
I’m late in bed tonight as we’ve also had a houseful, they’re all very welcome but they do stay late sometimes and the DGC get overtired. Particularly DGS who was already on his last warning. Anyhow it’s back to school for them both next week so no more late nights
Well done to your DGS Yia, great results. I hope he settles into University well
How kind of your DD2 Redcar to look after all 4 children so well, she deserves a medal!
Gillgran 💐
So frustrating grandmabatty, hope your new card arrives soon
