In *soop’s absence I’ve opened the door, fluffed the cushions and replenished the buffer.
Blossoming you have more patience than me with that bracelet, how delicate.
Tough times SueD I hope today went well for Thursday.
Yesterday’s quiz was a record 54 in attendance, not bad for a village on a Monday, we caught up with quiz mates, but failed to get in the top three. Before that I went to see a physiotherapist and came away with a bunch of knee exercises, I’ve crepitus apparently!
Today was washing, managed to whip it in before some rain unexpectedly came down.
With 🌹to soop and others struggling.

Thank you for the updates Baggs, I hope things are much better organised for Soop now and I’m pleased to hear MrSoop’s scalp treatment is helping.

Susan56 Thu 14-Aug-25 11:34:22

It’s good to hear that Mr soops head is finally healing.

Aldom, I go to that dentist!

Redcar Thu 14-Aug-25 11:02:14

baggs thank you for the update on mrsoops head and good that it finally seems to be healing. What a long journey from his home to the hospital in Oban, and from yours too! It’s a day trip each time isn’t it. I hope that soop is comfortable now she’s back in Oban hospital.
Thank you for the explanation and update.

Baggs Thu 14-Aug-25 10:46:01

Hello everyone. I thought I'd get back to you about MrSoop's head. When I last saw him a few weeks ago, it was the first time I'd seen him for ages without his head covered. It was still clear that 'things had been done' to his scalp but it looked to be healing well.

Re the journey from where the Soops live to Oban hospital, it's about a two-hour journey. Slightly less if they take what MrB and I call the coast road which is nearer to the coast than the other route. The other route via the north end of Loch Awe takes a bit longer than two hours, assuming no traffic delays.

It's a similar time from where I live but I can also get a train fairly easily whereas MrSoop can't.

Thank you again Baggs. My thoughts are with Soop and her husband. Sending love and strength.
My house move is moving along smoothly, fingers crossed, at the moment.
Last week my daughter and I went house hunting and I found a house I love. My offer was accepted.
I'm so thankful to have found this particular house as I had a list of five houses and viewings booked. On touring the areas prior to viewing I cancelled each viewing, due to the area being unsuitable.
The house I have chosen is a two minute walk to a wonderful shopping centre, doctor, dentist and much more. Yet incredibly, the house is quietly tucked away and one would never guess the amenities were close by.
Kind thoughts and wishes to FGT and others with sadness or illness in their lives. flowers

Thank you for the update Baggs

I imagine dear soop is on all of our minds, she is a very brave and strong lady, definitely missed from her kitchen 🌸

Susan56 Thu 14-Aug-25 07:52:14

Good to hear that soop is closer to home.Thank you Baggs.I hope she is comfortable and that Mr soop is able to visit.

TOYA

Grandmabatty Thu 14-Aug-25 07:16:12

Redcar I hope your dd had a nice time in Edinburgh last night but the temperature just inland a bit was 28° yesterday! Maybe Edinburgh would be slightly cooler being at the coast and known as The Windy City

cornergran Wed 13-Aug-25 23:35:46

Thank you again baggs. Good news soop will be closer to home for a while.

It’s been cloudy all day here, a mere 22 degrees, much more comfortable even though the sky has been gloomy. What Mr C and I call an Eeyore day.

A minor, modern miracle occurred here today. A British Gas finally changed both meters and they now operate as they should as smart meters. It’s only taken 16 months. The friendly, efficient, full of common sense engineer explained there was indeed a fault with the electricity meter and the gas meter was the wrong type for the location. She also left her mobile number, any issue in the next week we can call her direct. Wow. Reporting to the family I commented it took a woman. No response from the sons grin. No, they won’t be offended, just an eye roll.

I’m pleased and relieved to report Mr C is back to his usual self. He’s agreed should the odd symptoms return he will request a GP appointment. That’s good enough for now.

With thoughts to all carrying worry and anxiety, I’ll not name people as I’m bound to mis someone out, my eyes are closing, time to sleep

Night night everyone.

GrannySomerset Wed 13-Aug-25 22:57:37

So glad Soop is nearer her home turf and hope it is possible for her to be visited by those who love her. She must be exhausted by all the to-ing and fro-ing.

A bit cooler tonight so might even get some sleep but we are promised more heat tomorrow. Think I have had enough of summer for the present.

Redcar Wed 13-Aug-25 22:39:34

One of my DDs is in Edinburgh tomorrow afternoon/evening for a drinks reception for Scottish authors and is hoping it’s going to be cooler than the 29 degrees we had in Essex today!

GrandmaC47 Wed 13-Aug-25 22:20:25

Better news for Soop, glad she nearer to home. Thank you Baggs for the updates.
Good your BP is better, Blossoming. Lovely photo.
Thinking of fgt, Yiyia, SueD and all with worries and stresses.
We had a lovely meal this evening with dd1 and her lovely partner. So nice having her close instead of north of Newcastle. We are in the very south of Co Durham and it was a two hour bus journey away.
Much too hot for me. 29 degrees at 7.00 pm. Doubt I’ll sleep much tonight šŸ˜‚.

Grandmadinosaur Wed 13-Aug-25 22:09:46

Thank you for the update baggs and hope soop is comfortable after her move.

It’s warm here with the fan still going strong. Strange day though as it began with thick fog but soon burned back. Cooler tomorrow I think hope so as we have the grandchildren for the day.

Enjoy your day tomorrow Grannmarie it sounds a fun day.

gillgran Wed 13-Aug-25 22:00:02

Thank you, Baggs, I'm pleased that soop is back nearer to home, hope she is getting the care & treatment needed.

Warm thoughts for both the soops, Baggs, & all in this friendly kitchen. x

Grannmarie Wed 13-Aug-25 21:38:56

Thanks again, Baggs, for your update on Soop. Glad to hear she's back in Oban, with better transport arrangements for her next trip to Glasgow. MrSoop will be so glad to have her much closer to home. I hope he is well himself, I think he is still getting his scalp treated? What a brave couple. šŸ’•

UsedToBeBlonde, Oban is close to home for the Soops whereas Glasgow is around 100 miles from them, on a difficult road.
Sorry about your friend, she seems to have lost all her ' filters' in the heat!

It was hot here today, for Scotland, too hot for me to sit out but great for drying the washing! Yet again, I dozed for most of the afternoon. 😓 I can't do that tomorrow cos my sisters and I are off to Edinburgh for the day, 10 a.m train. We're booked for two shows at the Book Festival, Julian Clary, then Judy Murray, followed by the Billy Joel Songbook in the evening. A few breaks in between for food and cocktails! šŸ¹ Fingers crossed šŸ¤ž we avoid the thunderstorms.

Thinking of all with worries, illness or sorrow, hoping for good results all round tomorrow.
Wishing everyone a peaceful Wednesday evening and a good night's sleep. TOYA, NNGB.

Jaxjacky Wed 13-Aug-25 21:34:04

Thank you Baggs it seems better organised, x to you all.

Usedtobeblonde Wed 13-Aug-25 21:29:07

My goodness I just remembered that Soop mentions Campbeltown? So googled distance to Oban, I was very shocked and realised that unless her H can live in a hotel for the foreseeable future he is unlikely to be visiting often which must be distressing for them both.
We may not live in the most picturesque area where we are but hospitals are not so far for visitors

SueDonim Wed 13-Aug-25 21:19:35

Brook. 😘

Thank you for the update, Baggs. I am glad Soop is back in Oban, where I hope she is tended to gently and has a chance to regain some strength. Wishing strength to MrSoop as well - he must be missing her so badly. flowers

Goodness, UTBB your friend sounds remarkably similar to my 3yo GS when he’s in a strop! flowers

It’s been v hot today (for Scotland), 29.5 in my car. Thunder has been predicted but none so far. My washing has dried to a crisp! I’ve just had half a dozen large shrubs delivered so I’ll need to get outside and plant them tomorrow before they expire in the heat.

I’ve visited my aged mother in her care home. No change really, though she’s now getting confused about family members and seems to have forgotten some people entirely.

Wishing everyone a cool night’s sleep. TOYA. Xxx

brook2704 Wed 13-Aug-25 21:10:49

Thank you so much for the latest update on Soop much appreciated x

Redcar Wed 13-Aug-25 20:58:54

Thank you for the update baggs, good that soop is back in Oban and will stay there for a week.

utbb I hope the weather cools down sufficiently to enable you to visit your friend, but what a shame she was so grumpy!

This morning started out with blue sky and sunshine, but that didn’t last and it’s been grey and horribly humid here all day. We had a brief shower this afternoon but it only lasted a minute or so, I’ll still have to water the garden tomorrow morning. I should have done it this evening, but the heat and humidity have really wiped me out today. I cut down a couple more hollyhocks and emptied out some pots of bulbs from last winter. I’ll replant them in fresh compost soon.

Good news about your blood pressure blossoming, hope it stays down and well done for your walk.

yiayia and fgt hoping for good news for your DHs soon.

Enjoy the rest of the evening everyone, I hope we’ll be able to sleep even though it’s hot!

Usedtobeblonde Wed 13-Aug-25 20:52:31

Better news about Soop but it doesn’t sound as if she will be home any time soon.
I don’t know how far Oban is from their home so can’t think how often her DH can get to see her or if it possible for him to visit daily.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Wed 13-Aug-25 20:46:30

Heartening news about soop thank you Baggs for letting us all know she’s nearer home - with her next appointment in Glasgow better organised regarding transport straight back to Oban. A relief to you all I expect. x
