In *soop’s absence I’ve opened the door, fluffed the cushions and replenished the buffer.
Blossoming you have more patience than me with that bracelet, how delicate.
Tough times SueD I hope today went well for Thursday.
Yesterday’s quiz was a record 54 in attendance, not bad for a village on a Monday, we caught up with quiz mates, but failed to get in the top three. Before that I went to see a physiotherapist and came away with a bunch of knee exercises, I’ve crepitus apparently!
Today was washing, managed to whip it in before some rain unexpectedly came down.
With 🌹to soop and others struggling.

Crossed posts KittyLester, glad you’ve had an enjoyable day with your DGDs and happy birthday to your DH. I’m sure Soop will be pleased to know that the lovely safe place she built is still going strong in her honour.

Good evening dear Kitcheners. The weather here has been warm today, we were able to enjoy our usual walk. I’ve made two more bracelets today,I now have 6 to give to our local charity. I’ve started using some bigger beads, which is much easier and faster. This one is some beautiful hardwood beads from a recycled necklace. I have enough to make a few more. Good to see you FGT2, hope things are going as well as these things can.

Sending lots of love to Soop and MrSoop flowers

kittylester Thu 07-Aug-25 20:33:02

I agree with you FGT but we keep this lovely space going.

I hope you and himself are doing ok. I think about you a lot and am always pleased to see you posting.

We've had a lovely day. We have 2 dgds staying and today was DH's 80th birthday. We went to the marina for lunch and they fed the ducks. We are exhausted though as dh has had messages and phone calls galore.

And, it's now pouring with rain. Hope it is where you all are.

I think we are all missing the ā¤ļø of our kitchen. Dearest soop x

Only just seen the message from Baggs. Just wanted to say I'm so pleased Mr Soop has been able to visit his beloved Soop. Sending love and strength to them both.

That’s lovely news about Soop. Thank you Baggs. I hope she is managing to get some rest, though I think we all know that’s not easy in hospital. Xxx

Jaxjacky Wed 06-Aug-25 20:57:58

llfl I rarely eat cake, but that sounds delicious and tempting.
Very pretty Blossomin I really wouldn’t have the patience, someone will be very lucky.
Thank you Baggs your updates are much appreciated.
A quiet day, long chat with my brother, we can talk for ages, subjects galore. I’m missing not using the hose, the ground is so dry and I’ve winter veg to put out, I’ll have to organise a watering can chain at the weekend with family!
I expect brook has a house full of love and laughter.

HelterSkelter1 Wed 06-Aug-25 20:49:48

Redcar. Guinness Zero has no alcohol and tastes just like normal Guinness. It's been my favourite chilled drink in the recent heatwave evenings.

Redcar Wed 06-Aug-25 20:30:16

Chocolate Guinness cake sounds delicious! The problem I have with baking lovely cakes, is that I then feel compelled to eat them! My DDs rarely eat cake and wouldn’t allow the grandchildren to eat anything with alcohol in!
Thank you for the update on the soops baggs. I hope that soop doesn’t have to wait too long before her cancer team decide on the best course of action.

I went back to my house this morning and picked up the post, then watered the plants that needed it. Some of the many self seeded hollyhocks have blown down over the last few days so I’ll be busy sorting out the garden when I get home on Friday.

When I was on holiday before I retired I used to plan what to do both at work and at home when I got back to work. I’m finding myself doing some forward planning now, my mind obviously thinks I’m on holiday!!

Have a peaceful evening everyone. brook enjoy the time with your family.
Well done for walking to the docks blossoming and I hope you enjoy the cottage pie!

Blossoming Wed 06-Aug-25 20:26:47

Thank you for the update Baggs. I’m so pleased to hear that we made Soop smile and that MrSoop has been able to visit.

I have almost finished the bracelet I was working on, very pleased with the result. The beads are silver, and purple glass with silvering on the inside. They look rather blue in the photo. The strange orange object is a soft silicone earplug that I’ve pushed the wire end into to make sure the beads don’t drop off before I do the end loop. I’ll finish it tomorrow afternoon, my hands are rather sore and tired now.

Goodnight all x

Baggs Wed 06-Aug-25 20:12:40

I love chocolate Guinness cake!

Soop news: MrSoop was able to visit yesterday and brought with him the cards I'd sent from you lot. Soop messaged me to say she was wearing a happy face as a result šŸ™‚. She also said yous "are the BEST".

Meanwhile her cancer team at another hospital will review her case this week and she will tell us more when she can. Looks as if she is being kept in hopital at the moment.

Hello kitchen people.

I missed posting on Good Morning as I had to leave early for the dentist.

So, I saw my lovely Portuguese dentist who said I need a filling. After my dental insurance discount it is costing me Ā£202. As I said to the receptionist, it’s a good thing I’m not destitute. I was chatting to some ladies later at the WI coffee morning and they had similar stories,

Back home and I have decorated a chocolate Guinness cake which I defrosted this morning with chocolate frosting, which I also defrosted. It is the U3A summer lunch party tomorrow and I always make one of the puddings.

I am now in the middle of defrosting one of our freezers - bowls of boiling water etc. our other two freezers are self defrosting.

I hope all is well with Soop and that Mr Soop is able to visit. I also hope that the FGT2S are having a good day

Good afternoon Kitchen friends. The weather is much better here today, sunny and warm with a cool breeze. MrB and I have had a lovely walk down to the Dock gates and now I’m working on the bracelet I started yesterday. He is making cottage pie for tea, one of my favourite meals which he doesn’t make often because he finds it a bit of a faff. I think he may be a keeper grin. Sending love and best wishes to the FGT2s and the soops.
Enjoy what’s left of the day, I’ll try and pop back later for a catchup ā™„ļø

Thank you, Blossoming. I knew someone would know.

Blossoming Tue 05-Aug-25 22:37:23

It’s called The Village Blacksmith Granny Somerset and it’s by Longfellow.

ā€œEach morning sees some task begin,
Each evening sees it close;
Something attempted, something done,
Has earned a night’s repose.ā€

GrannySomerset Tue 05-Aug-25 22:32:45

Wonderful Cleaner and I between us cleaned the inside of all the windows with the excellent Karndean window vac. It’s now a bit heavy for me so we shared the job and feel smug. Bed changing and laundry also accomplished and a drink with neighbours so altogether a good day - I am reminded of a half remembered poem which says ā€œSomething attempted, something done has earned a night’s reposeā€. Can anyone tell me more?

Blossoming Tue 05-Aug-25 22:32:30

MrB thinks I witter sometimes Jax grin. I’m feeling so much better and am finally starting to feel like myself again after hospital and almost constant illness since being discharged. I hope I haven’t tempted fate.

Blossoming Tue 05-Aug-25 22:27:47

Enjoy the family visit Brook, hope the storms are past.

Jaxjacky Tue 05-Aug-25 21:29:54

Have a fantastic time with your family brook

Redcar Tue 05-Aug-25 20:06:38

A sunny but breezy day here. I actually slept quite well last night and didn’t wake up until 6.45!

Had a walk over to Tesco’s for a paper and a few things. Walked round to DD2’s this afternoon to look after the seven year old after the childminder had gone and until her mum or dad got home from work. Fortunately her dad remembered that he had to collect the two year old from nursery!

I was sufficiently bored this morning to sweep the kitchen floor and wipe down all the cupboard doors!

Have a peaceful evening everyone, I hope that power is restored soon to those who are without it.

brook2704 Tue 05-Aug-25 19:34:41

Hi kitchen pals, another wet and windy day here although not as bad as yesterday
I enjoyed Aerobics then Line Dancing at the gym, I walked back into town by the river and though the Ness Islands - so much storm debris littering all the paths, trees down and large branches hanging off, we’ve lived here for over 20 years and it’s the worst that I’ve seen it. Thankfully though we kept our power, a couple of my friends who don’t live too far away have been told Thursday 10pm before it’s restored. The tree in our front garden is still standing albeit leaning quite a bit, secure for now but DH will have to prune it back and restake it as soon as he’s got time
I think I’m all set for DD1s visit, they all arrive tomorrow - DD2 will also join us so I’ll have a house full for the next few days. It’ll be lovely having all the DGC together, they’re all very different but hopefully everyone will get on ok.
Your bracelet making sounds interesting Blossoming well done šŸ‘ Think I witter far more than you!
Enjoy your dinner Jax
Hope GG is having fun at Butlins
Thinking of everyone in the quiet corner, hope Soop is doing ok snd fgt too, take care all x

Jaxjacky Tue 05-Aug-25 18:51:58

Oh I love that moody picture Blossoming and you don’t witter!
After doing my admin from yesterday’s drives it was washing, which has dried well, we’ve had sun/cloud and a breeze today, ideal.
I then took a friend to the local airport, calling in M&S foodhall for their wheat biscuits (much better and cheaper than those Weetabix), 2 steaks on offer were snaffled.
Watering and prepping runner beans for dinner now done, a glass of white is poised.

Blossoming Tue 05-Aug-25 17:20:01

Good evening dear Kitcheners. I haven’t been able to go out today as we have had 50mph winds here. We have had rain but mostly short sharp showers! I have spent the day experimenting with different methods of making bracelets. There are some excellent videos on YouTube demonstrating different techniques. I’ve started another bracelet and I’ve gone back to my original method after picking up some useful tips. Memory wire is notoriously difficult to bend as it wants to go back to its original shape and my hands are both quite weak these days.
I hope Soop is free from pain and MrSoop is able to visit.
I hope the FGT2s are doing well.

Here’s a photo of the Marina looking less than welcoming, MrB ventured out to the farm butchers and we’re having their spicy burgers for tea. They’re huge so will probably just have some beans with then. We never have burger buns.

I’ve wittered on for long enough, have a peaceful evening and a restful night ā™„ļø

Jaxjacky Mon 04-Aug-25 22:21:30

A late one after quiz, we were better tonight, but failed by 1 to get a prize šŸ™ a breeze here Grannmarie rain for a while, but not heavy.
Busy phone line today, seven lifts sorted, failed on one though.
A narrow escape brooke and a good call to stay put.
Where are you hunting Aldom? Good luck.
Off to bed, sleep well all
