Good morning everyone. I’ve just had a message from Himself on the ward at Christie’s “I’ve just had a weetabix. I think I’m mended”. 12 days without ‘proper food’ only by iv drip, so this delighted and heartened me as you can imagine. He’s been through the mill with that first faulty stent that had to be removed. He’s been on iv antibiotics too for an infection and they finish tomorrow night. He may be coming home on Friday. I’m a bit nervous to be honest but he sounds so positive (and mentally stronger yesterday). His confidence is slowly returning I think. 🤞

Such good news Mick and I’m delighted for you too Ashcombe. Pain just drags you down. It consumed Himself for a month prior to his admission that’s for sure. His morphine dose was quadrupled at home. All it was doing was masking what the problem was - a corroded stent. Beyond awful for him.

We hope for better days ahead, back on chemotherapy.

Best wishes to all today. 😊

A good turnout at the music club yesterday and there was a birthday, so cake for all.

Good news Ashcombe and Mick, good health is the most

A very late good morning from sunny Northampton - I slept till 9am!
Have just hung yesterday's washing (towels) out, and put another load in.

Yesterday did not go as planned - I heard from the badger lady who said that I must make sure my suspect badger hole in the lawn is not blocked, so there was that to deal with, then she requested photos of it with a ruler next to it for scale, so had to do that as well.

She also mentioned that she was unable to leave a message on my answerphone, so I investigated that as well. Sure enough, no-one could leave a message, as for some reason voicemail had not been activated and calls were not diverting to voicemail - I had to ring my mobile from my landline to find that out.
Well, it took me a good couple of hours to work out how to get it working, but I got there in the end - including recording a personal message!

By that time it was past lunchtime and I was too late to join my walking group. So as.it was still dry I decided to cut the back grass - which was interrupted half way through by a rain shower of course! Anyway I got that done, and then spent an hour cutting back some overgrown bush roses and other stuff.

Nothing planned for today, shall just take it as it comes - at least I have emptied the laundry basket!

Wishing all a pleasant day.

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders.
A warm day.
Poor you Sallyforth. I was also up in the night but made a cuppa about 4.30 and went back to sleep.

Pretty flowers Mizuna. I have real slugs who've demolished my broad beans. Here are all my harvest.
My flowers are pretty though.

Hoping everyone has a good day.

Yogaknit Wed 23-Jul-25 09:39:03

Good morning from Kent where the sky is white with cloud and there has already been a slight shower.
Today's plan is to keep on top of the veg plot, harvesting the runner beans and the dwarf beans which seem to have thrived in the recent rain. Today's subsidiary plan is to eat some of the harvest.
Best wishes to all.

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 15° and dry. Ash good news about your knee and freedom from pain.
I had a horrible night of little sleep so I don't have many plans for today. I'll potter about. Have a good day all

Good morning everyone from cloudy Lancashire.

MrB is out shopping and collecting some items from the sewing lady, who does repairs and alterations. When he returns we will have a cup of tea and then go for our daily walk.

Yesterday was damp and drizzly. MrB and I enjoyed our usual walk down to the Dock gates and watched the ducks for a while. I cracked on with some beading in the afternoon and now have two bracelets completed. Today will be much the same.

Good results from your colorectal team Mick and also from your knee procedure Ash.

I know Killington Lake well Madeleine, it is a great place for birdwatching and having a break on long motorway journeys. It’s manmade and was originally constructed to supply water to the Lancaster canal.

A warm welcome to any new posters I may have missed.

Thinking of our poorly Grans and families, as always.

Have the best day you can everyone 🌹

Good Morning from Durham. It’s cool, grey and raindrops on the Velux window.
Coffee and lunch with a friend today. She has been quite ill this year, but has often postponed various tests she’s been offered and still weights under 7st, but she says she’s fine.
Really good news for Mick and Ash.
Hope you feel better later MD and no news is good news Maw

Best wishes to all. X

Good morning from sunny at the moment South Lanarkshire.

Great news Mick and Ash, so nice to hear such good news. Also welcome to peli, I love the thought of grans linking across the world.

I had a great phone catch up with my DD and DGD who have returned from their Californian odyssey. They’re coming over on Saturday when I’ll hear the details. They had lovely experiences but the highlight, at least for the children, definitely seems to have been a ride in a driverless taxi. They had sent me a video which has ‘freaked out’ most people I’ve shown it to! The part that chilled me slightly was the sight of the empty car driving away once they had got out😳

Best wishes for the day x

merlotgran Wed 23-Jul-25 08:53:24

Good morning everyone from a sunny/cloudy south coast.
Yesterday’s session on the allotment was very productive but one member of our merry band has had to leave suddenly for health reasons and another one has warned me that his back won’t let him carry on much longer. It’s not going to be easy to find replacements. We’re none of us getting any younger.
Classical music group this afternoon.
Hope everyone has a good day.

Good morning all from a cooler Glasgow, where it is 14°C.
I have woken with a blinding headache, behind my eye, it's years since I had one like that. It started yesterday and I suspect it is sinusitis, because my eye is drooping and I am so congested..

Great news from Mick and Ash, long may it continue.

Maw, I hope you get your results soon.

A warm welcome to Perli.

We had such a happy day with Dollie yesterday, visiting the Police Museum. We couldn't find it, having walked past it, it turned out to be next to Papa's old office!!
A lady approached me looking for a certain Local Authority department, the building was being refurbished and there were no information boards.
DH, who I thought hadn't been listening, took her and showed her where to go. It's twenty five years since he worked there!;🤣

The museum was extremely interesting, the curator (an ex policeman) was so proud of it. He was astonished to hear that I clearly remembered some of the events described. You couldn't possibly be that old, he said.
That made my day. 😉
Dollie was given tasks to do and awarded a Junior Detective certificate, when she successfully completed her tasks.

We got chatting about other Glasgow museums and I explained that my DIL is the the project manager on the refurbishment of another Glasgow museum. The curator said that he knew that venue had police artifacts and would they be willing to donate any.
I messaged DIL, who is going to look in the stores today. They are unable to sell items, but can donate to other museums. She recently gave a Victorian traction engine to a museum in England. I wouldn't want to be driving to England behind that machine! 🤣

Pants, I managed to squeeze in a five minute visit to visit our favourite shop, where I forced myself to buy a new handbag. 😉
The icing on the cake was a visit to the baker's, to buy bottles of strawberry tart jelly. It has been out of stock for months and there it was sitting on the shelves. Simple things bring such joy.
Our morning finished with lunch in our favourite Chinese restaurant.
Unknown to us, on our way out, every waiter gave Dollie a lollipop, as we walked past.
We were on the train, when she revealed her stash!

My day will be a quiet one, apart from picking up prescriptions, for we have Babydoll tomorrow. DD is looking after Dollie today, to give me a chance to rest. They are very close and I know she will be spoiled.
I need to be well. for we cannot let BabyD out of our sight. She can now open the doors, the fridge and freezer.
Our front and back doors doors are alarmed, so that we can hear her if she escapes. Unfortunately the conservatory doors are not and that is her preferred escape route.🤣
Oh the joy of discovering that you can escape through the conservatory and come in the back door to raid the fridge.

Wishing you all a pleasant day, whatever your plans.

Morning Mick and all GN's on a still, sunny morning in North Yorkshire -but they promise us heavy showers later in the day.

Could not put Good in front of morning, as it has definitely not been a good night or morning!! Still struggling with jetlag and pains I have tried to be sensible and go to bed early etc etc. The main aim is to be well enough for my operation next tuesday morning, so doing all I can to help matters. Unfortunately, my body does not agree , and is determined to punish me for excessive travel and efforts!! So still struggling a lot with back and knees and was reduced to taking pain killers in the day, which I try to do without usually. So this awful cough is the kind that once it starts it won't stop and you can hardly draw breath and your eyes stream. I got off to sleep but the d..... cough woke me and by the time it had stopped I was wide awake and breathless. So read for a while and then managed to doze off, only to be woken up by flipping cramp in my leg and foot. Very painful and even when it eases off you darent turn or move your leg or it will start up again. Then started coughing again. Honestly what a night! Glad to see the daylight creeping in. So about 5.30am went into the shower , washed my hair, and generally felt much better for it, whilst be very careful getting dried as my leg kept doing these sort of judder flicker muscular thing, which is a warning to take care or it will seize up again! Not quite the plan for today. Anyway washer going well, and hope to get it out on the line before the promised showers etc.

Yesterday had to go to various places and the bank etc to sort of catch up with things, and am going in for a meeting today to just have a general look over my accounts. I want to make sure that all the direct debits etc are all set up properly and check if there are any that need cancelling, but most of all I need to know what is best. I try and save for various things , such as the car insurance , as you do better paying annually etc, and any things that I can see are liable to be needing to be replaced soon, such as my steam iron, which I am extremely annoyed , no longer works properly. Felt very disgruntled about this as said to myself , havent had that long, but when I thought about it , have had it for more than 6 years!! Nothing is built to last according to me! So it is no good having it in a current account getting no interest, but must make sure I remember what this cash is for, and it is earmarked, not for me to go swanning off up the dales. So I am doing these little things, and have just found some old £2 and £1 bonds of my husbands, so I have resolved to spend the next few days, when I am not up to doing a lot of walking, checking through drawers and so forth and sorting these old bits out. You think when you move you have told everyone your new address, but it is easy for old bits and pieces to not be checked. Who knows I may confirm my new address and find I have £1000 waiting for me from the premium bonds. Watch the pigs fly overhead!!!!

After my bank visit, I am going to meet my friend for a bit of lunch to catch up with news and views, as we havent seen each other for a while. It is market day in Northallerton, so busy with stalls and so forth on a sunny day, so we are being quite crafty. Barkers is the local department store - a bit like "Are you being served" in style. They have two stores, one in the high street so of course very busy with ladies who lunch and people coming in from the market. The other store is a little further out and is there furniture store, but has a restaurant there too. As it is a bit further out and not on a bus route, tends to be a little quieter and they have a disabled parking spot there so I can usually get in there if I need to - and today I definitely need to! So we can do our own thing this morning and meet up there on the first floor where hopefully we will get a table by the window and be able to catch up on news and views. My intention to make some effort sorting rooms out here has gone out of the window , due to horrible night, so I shall not feel guilty at all , and the best I hope to do is to get the washing on the line before I go!!

Fingers crossed I am hoping to meet the family on saturday. They live over in Lancashire and so we usually try to meet somewhere in the middle, as my grandson tends to get car sick and is not a good traveller. So we sometimes meet in Kirby Lonsdale, but another thing we do is meet at the motorway service station on the M6. Sounds crazy, but I drive up wensleydale and on through Sedberg and then it is a short distance from the way onto the motorway for me. I park in the disabled bay, the family come up the other way and turn round at the same entrance and then come down and they can have 2 hours parking there. It is at Killington Lake, and so we just have a coffee and can sit outside if it is dry, and catch up with news and views and then set off home or to wherever we are going. It has been a while since we last met and of course with the operation on tuesday, dont know when I will be back driving. So hope the weather is kind, but if not , no matter we can sit inside. Ah the sky is greying over a bit. Time to get the coffee on

Very pleased that you had good results Mick and hope you meet lots of friends today.
Ashcombe , how lovely to be pain free and to be able to enjoy walking about without having to think how you are moving
Karma lady, always enjoy reading your posts, as I was a great gardener and making things from the garden, but cant do it any more. I always used to spread a load of newspaper on the floor when I was doing beetroot, as am an expert at dropping slippery beets on the floor! But do tell me what is natto? I have no idea what it is and am curious.

Well folks, have a good day, and dont forget to be kind to yourselves as well as others and have a little time to yourselves with a cup of coffee and a bit of peace.

Gingster Wed 23-Jul-25 08:25:26

Good morning all and the sky is brightening here in Essex. We’re in for a pleasant day, cooler and dry.

I had a lovely birthday lunch yesterday with dh,Dd,gd1 and gd6. We were in a pod by the river, where the water was in, lots of swans with their cygnets waddling around . The weather was perfect and the food delicious. A beautiful setting with some of my loved ones 🎈.

Today I’ll walk up to town after visiting church and meet my friend for coffee and a wander around the market. I’ll go to the M and S food hall for some ideas for lunch tomorrow when my two brothers and one SIL are coming for lunch.
We were going out but thought it would be nicer here. Dh can only take so much ‘going out’ and it’s more relaxing for him.

Good news on the health front for Mick and Ash. It’s so good to hear of positive outcomes.

Hoping you feel better today Utbb.
Sar you’re probably not sleeping well with your dh being away as well as family in Thailand on your mind.. I know that feeling well in the night, all worries come crowding in!
Enjoy your time with your girls next week,.

Take care all 🌼

GrannySomerset Wed 23-Jul-25 08:04:42

A sunny morning in our lovely Yorkshire cottage but we are saying goodbye as we are off to Leeds for DGD’s graduation later today. Splendid visit to Harlow Carr yesterday, wonderful summer planting in all its glory and a really happy afternoon.

My turn for the shower so must get the day started.

Liberty Wed 23-Jul-25 08:01:45

Good morning from a dull ish Suffolk which is brightening up as I type.

I’m off tomy keep fit class shortly and then heading to a local railway station to pick up my dear friend who I went to India with in 2023. She lives in Essex and has decided, like us and several people we know in their mid to late 70s that she will travel by train sometimes rather than undertaking longish drives.

We are off to the coast for lunch,a walk and then no doubt tea and cake before I drop her back at the station for her 2 trains home. Southwold will be very busy but I know several convenient but unknown parking spots so,hopefully,no problem.

Hope all have the best day possible.

EkwaNimitee Wed 23-Jul-25 07:56:51

Good morning Mick and everyone from dull, grey Carlisle.

Good news on the health front, Mick and Ashcombe!

After a bout of bathroom and kitchen cleaning, I managed to get out and mow the lawn. It needs doing more often now, the downside of feeding it.
The afternoon was just spent with magazines and a new book. I have the latest Robert Harris, one of my favourite authors but I'm not sure this one will be my thing, we'll see...

This morning, ironing beckons and, at some point, I'd like to get out in the garden but will it rain? If so, I'll just hunker down with my book though I do have an ever-lengthening list of one off jobs I could do....

Have the best possible day, all of you.

And hello to you, peli, keep popping in, interesting to have someone from across the pond!

NannyJan53 Wed 23-Jul-25 07:54:37

Good morning from a dull and damp Black Country where it rained heavily in the afternoon. The garden loved it though.

Just pottered yesterday and read. Popped into town for a few bits and bobs.

Today I am going over to DD's to see them before they go on holiday on Friday, give the girls some Euro's.

Then over to Mums, to take her to meet her Sister & Niece for lunch. Cousin has recently had the all clear from her Cancer treatment, thank goodness,

Then will take Mum food shopping as her fridge is practically empty.

Great news Mick & Ash

Wishing you all the best day possible.

Allsorts Wed 23-Jul-25 07:53:56

Good morning from Midlands, doesn't look to bad out there. May potter in the garden for an hour but despite torrential rain last few days ground hard as a rock.
Out for a meal with gs later on to a local pub.
Karmalady, I pickle my beetroot in vinegar, did you mention doing yours in brine. Doesn't it taste of salt ? Could you tell me how to do it please as always looking for new ways to do things.

ginny Wed 23-Jul-25 07:52:39

Good morning from N.Bucks where it is trying to brighten up.
DH has gone to golf and I have smallest DGS for the day. His brother is going to see Starlight Express with his Mum.
Will probably take him to a soft play centre for a couple of hours and then somewhere outside if the weather behaves.
Please to hear some good news health wise from some of our ‘grams’.
Wishing all a good day.

Kalu Wed 23-Jul-25 07:52:26

Good morning all. The sun is shining and it looks set to be around for the day in Glasgow.

Remaining work yet to be finished in the garden and is dragging on. A late start yesterday, 2 bodies short, taken off to another project, I had enough! Time for a ‘chat’, no more time wasting, enough bodies required to finish off the work they had started here!
I decided to go out for a few hours mainly to calm down and take my mind off the matter. My no nonsense approach worked and proof of a more industrious day was evident when I returned home. And breath…..

Welcome peli. Looking forward to hearing your news from Mississippi and thank you for the coffee.

Best wishes to all for a pleasant day.

luluaugust Wed 23-Jul-25 07:46:13

Good morning from a bright W Kent where I shall be drinking tea with a dear friend and looking at pictures of her very new great granddaughter. Her family are like extended family to me and we shall mull over all the going on
Yesterday’s visit to M&S gave DH and I a bit of a shock his underwear has gone up by 25% since we bought last year well we can only spend it once!
Very good news from Mick and Ash
Best wishes all round

Usedtobeblonde Wed 23-Jul-25 07:45:38

Good morning from a dull ,cool, Stockport.
An off day for me yesterday,I did not feel well, it is an occasional happening now.
I did a few jobs in the morning, had my hair cut, home hairdresser, at lunchtime, Sainsbury’s delivery at 2pm and then the day went “south”
I had no energy at all ,felt drained, then nauseous and so took to my bed where I had a couple of hours sleep.
I didn’t bother getting dressed and stayed in bed until now.
I am visiting an old neighbour with a mutual friend this morning, she is now classed as housebound after a minor stroke and some bad falls, during two of which she broke both hips.
She was always quite a prickly character but hopefully has mellowed slightly through the years.. we shall see, it is a couple of years since a face to face with her.
Kindest thoughts to all feeling they need them and good news for two GNers on the health front today.

brook2704 Wed 23-Jul-25 07:35:51

Good morning everyone from Inverness where we’ve a sunny start to the day
Good news for Mick today and you too about your knee Ash
I’ll call into see DD2 and the DGC this morning and then off to a couple of classes at the gym. After that probably a walk into town, coffee by the river and sitting watching the world go by
Love the flowers but not so keen on the slug Mizuna!
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

Great news Ash and Mick I wish you both well - why are my names not bold? What’s going on here ?
