Good morning from cloudy and damp s somerset
Wonderful news today Mick, it really is
I peeled and diced several slippery beetroots yesterday, enough to fill a large jar, the small dice settled down and it takes a lot of beetroot. The worst part was cleaning all the surrounding red, on the floor too, where the peels had fallen. I was not 100% sure I had used the correct concentration of brine in the first jar so I strained that jar and also added more beet as it had reduced in volume. I refilled and set the fermentation up again. Now have two big full jars which will be transferred to my fridge in 14 days. They will add colour and variety to my meals for many months over winter
I removed my non-growing globe artichokes, plus beetroot, from an 8x4 allotment bed and scattered phacelia green manure seed, which I will chop when big enough then cover so the worms can do their work peacefully over winter. I intend that bed for strawberries as my few strawberry plants have produced a magnificent lot of runners which have rooted
No specific plans for today but I need to get a leek from my allotment, so I will cycle there. I am on my feet and moving almost all day, nothing much will change but I will start to sew my sleeveless winter dress, excellent for layering, that will be my second one. in that pattern I may look through my trouser drawer today, My belly fat has just about gone and denim trousers are slipping down. I suppose I could try a hot wash on the denim, to give them a shrink
I intend to extend my fermentation to something new and have ordered the bacillus to make natto. I can make that and freeze it in large ice cube trays
I am reading daily too, enjoying a quiet reading session, delving back into my tomes of thin paper as well as fiction. I do have to pick my reading moments as it is all too easy to fall asleep
Have a good day
