one of those days!!

Horrible start to my day with terrible cramp and so forth at 5am. So various things went on and I needed to check that all was arranged properly for my operation tomorrow. So rang to check that there was no chance, confirmed that a driver will pick me up about 7.50am etc., So having done that couldnt really do much more on that front, and I am a good driver taking other people in, but hate not being in control, and it is not up to me whether the driver turns up or whatever. When I was doing hospital car I used to ring people up the night before. That wasnt the rule, but I found it was really worthwhile. Someone could have been waiting for an important scan which was booked weeks ago, but as it is from the hospital they get no reminders or anything. My way I reassure them that they havent been forgotten, double check their details and tell the what my car is like and the time I will be with them. I do it to try and minimize their worries, but it also paid dividends for me as people would usually be ready and organised.

Anyway it was quite hot and humid this morning and I decided that I must get out, while I could drive ok and get away. So put coffee things in the car and set of for lovely Saltburn. Had a good ride over, and enjoyed calmingdown a bit, watching the shipping, listening to radio 3 etc. I then decided I would go down to Whitby in the late afternoon. It is always busy there but by late afternoon a lot of visitors leave so you can park etc. So got parked and went for a hot coffee as my water wasnt hot enough by then. I drove round the outskirts of Whitby and checked on some b/b and caravan parks ect., as I wanted to see what might be available to let my family and I get together. Found a good possibility where there were options of caravans static big ones and also found that they had a couple of ground floor places to rent. This may well be just what would work, so that I can have my own space but be able to be with the family too. My grandson is autistic so we have to be careful how we organise things.

So feeling pleased with my efforts I went back into Whitby and had a bit of a look round, then set the Sat nav to take me to Gromont, as I have a plan to take him on the railway , etc., Well it certainly shows my age as I recognised the platforms etc which were set up exactly as I remember , when all those years ago I went to Beverly High School for girls!! To my grandson it will be interesting and ancient. To me absolutely as I remember it. Anyway, was very pleased with my checking up on possibilities and by this time it was about 9pm. Very little traffic on the move, the moon just rising faintly and a lovely sunset. I set off across the moors and had a good trip until I joined the A19. it wzs getting late and I had decided to get something chinese on the way in. However best laid plans etc!! They had decided to work on the A19 and therefore had blocked all the exits that I needed to use. I tried one diversion only to get back to yet another blocked exit. So in the end had to drive down to Thirsk and come back up from there. By this time there was no chinese or any other thing open as it was about 11.30pm. Had had nothing to eat since about 2pm, and didnt think I would get to sleep without something so it was a divert to Tesco, where I got some crab chowder, which I have just finished eating. Got into the flat very tired but chuffed to see it was 9 to 5 the Dolly Parton film, just the thing to watch so now it is 1.15am and I need probably another half an hour to calm down and try and get some sleep. Ah well it kept my mind off tomorrow with all this hassle, or should I say off today!!

Ah well by this time tomorrow it will hopefully have been done and successfully!! Have a good night and hope those of you awake like me get some sleep.

What a performance! I bet you could have done without that!
Years ago, my family and I had happy holidays in your area - it’s very beautiful.
Good luck with the operation and I hope you have a swift recovery. 💐

HelterSkelter1 Tue 29-Jul-25 07:14:49

Good luck. Hope all goes smoothly and you are soon recovering well.

Hope your operation goes well.

I sent you a PM last week regarding the cellulitis. I'm not sure if surgery can go ahead until you are clear of it for a certain period of time.
Best wishes. flowers

Good Luck Madeline45. I hope all goes well. flowers

Aldom I agree, surgery will be cancelled until the cellulitis has cleared up.

Aldom Tue 29-Jul-25 08:59:12

I first put a message on the Good Morning thread then a PM to Madeleine about the cellulitis. But I don't think she's read either message. I was hoping to save her a lot of upset today when she presents herself at the hospital. I'm surprised her GP hasn't informed her re surgery and cellulitis. They must know she's down for eye surgery.

Charleygirl5 Tue 29-Jul-25 09:25:18

My feeling was also that if she had let the hospital know in time, another person would have been grateful for the late cancellation.

I will be surprised if she is not very disappointed.

Aldom Tue 29-Jul-25 10:53:43

Yes, Charleygirl like you I thought someone else could benefit from the cancellation. I fear Madeleine is going to be very disappointed and upset today. But I've tried three times to inform her. She's probably in for a very long wait for surgery..... unless....she hasn't mentioned the cellulitis. Not a good thought.

Aldom Tue 29-Jul-25 13:29:43

Oh well, I've just seen that Madeleine has had her operation. Glad it's over for her. Hope the cellulitis won't cause problems for her eyes.

What a lovely way to spend the day - good for you! Hope today goes really well. X

Hello Madelaine. I hope all went well with your operation.
I see you went to Beverley High. I was born in Beverley but lived nearby. My sister-in-law went there. She would be 82 now, but wondered perhaps if you knew her - Kay Allen?
Good luck with your getting well again.

Thankyou all for your concern. I was already having antibiotics for the cellulitis, which had only just started and I was nipping it in the bud so to speak. The surgeon checked on my leg and my medication etc and decided as there was no heat on the leg and very little swelling that the surgery could go ahead. So very relieved to get it over with. At the moment I am having to fight the wish to scratch or rub the eye and it is very gritty. Never mind, I shall cope with whatever, it is done hurrah hurrah. I shall be as good as gold re drops, and resting etc etc, and will be scrubbing my hands etc every time I do the drops. I am doing my Greta Garbo impression wearing my dark sunglasses as soon as I leave home so that "darlings I vant to be alone!!"

Of course I cannot drive at the moment so have got another member of the whist club calling for me soon and coming to the rescue. I enjoy the game and the company and hope that it will distract me from the ey itching. Dont care if I have the worst cards all evening I will be there with friends. Hope you ar all having a good evening. Hope to be back on in the morning

Well done you! Enjoy your evening

I just came upon your post Madeleine and I’m so pleased your surgery is over and it all went well…. what a relief for you.
Sending my good wishes for a quick recovery xx

Good to hear all is well Madeline.
Relived that cellulitis is under control and you were able to have your eye surgery.
You will hopefully soon be back to driving and exploring the beautiful Yorkshire Dales. My late brother and his wife lived in Gunnerside until a couple or so years ago. I love the Dales.
