Talking “Les Mis”, my late aunt was a theatrical milliner and, other than many ballets, she did all the headdresses for the very first performance!
Working in someone else's home
Good Morning Everyone,

Health OK ,slowly gaining weight.
Take Care,
Mick
Talking “Les Mis”, my late aunt was a theatrical milliner and, other than many ballets, she did all the headdresses for the very first performance!
A very late Good morning from Stockport.
The weather is just as it has been all week, dull.
I was late up today and have been pottering , not even dressed.
My visit to my friend yesterday was very difficult.
She is obsessed by her D and SiL, they are very successful
in their chosen field of music, and she can’t stop talking about them.
It is so hard not to say that actually I am really not interested except to say, well done to them.
She plays recordings of them to me, I can’t take much more.
I was there an hour and 10 minutes before she left off telling me about them, I timed it.
She has no friends but me and I now realise why.
The thing is she is very lonely but is it up to me to keep visiting?
I am very depressed by it.
Have a decent day everyone.
Litterpicker, put your salad stuff into a smoothie. I am having a smoothie now, includes green veg and lots of berries and spices, anti-inflammatory for me
Yogaknit, I have sewn all spring and into summer, which I tend to do every year. Colder months are slower ie spinning and knitting. The allotment and cycling covers most seasons but the sewing and wool crafts are very different in energy and ambience for me. I go with the seasons always and I slow down for the colder months. I like to clean my sewing room, and put my machines to bed so that I have a lovely room to enter when the new season calls me
Good morning from West Sussex by the sea. It is bright but has clouded over in the last hour. We had a thunderstorm yesterday, followed by a succession of heavy showers. DH managed to do a couple of hours at the allotment (I stayed at home and was lazy) and returned triumphantly with a bag runner beans and shallots and a sample of the main crop potatoes - Desiree. He is Scots-Irish and does love his potatoes!
I have an episode of pain and stiffness in my jaw - I’ve had it before and it usually improves with rest ie soft foods and relaxation. Soft foods excludes salads which is a pain at this time of year. I’ll have to have a think about what to eat.
Blossoming, I am glad to hear you’ve had a good appointment with your GP and got some medication. I hope you will feel better soon.
I need to do some cleaning and tidying as some friends are coming to stay overnight next week, on their way back from a wedding. The house is its usual chaos so this is a good motivation to do something about it.
Have a good day all and special greetings to the Yorkshire people on Yorkshire Day!
Good morning to you all, white 🐇, and happy Yorkshire Day.
Apologies as I haven’t read through all the posts, some are a bit lengthy (but interesting) and unfortunately I haven’t time just now to read them, so will come back later.
I’m glad to say we’ve had some rain through the night, so the plants look happier. It feels chilly, though.
I hope that all of you who are struggling have a better day today.
Despite dire warnings we missed yesterday’s threatened thunder storms and will be watering the pots for the next ten days, very tedious but they are giving me such pleasure that it’s worth the effort. Nothing much planned for today but I have plenty to read so will take the day slowly and see what unfolds.
Beautifully sunny with a slight breeze here in Kent.
Taking early retirement at 60 is hopefully going to allow me the opportunity to develop my crafting skills. I think that will involve a lot of research - watching YouTube videos and reading forums.
If it isn't too nosey to ask karmalady why aren't you going to sew until next Spring?
Today's plan is to plant out some leeks but first I shall need to dig out some weeds to make space for them.
Wishing everyone a peaceful day.
Good morning everyone from cloudy Lancashire.
Yesterday’s GP appointment was very positive and I have the necessary prescriptions to collect this morning. Hoping to feel better soon.
I was so sad to hear the latest news about Soop yesterday, such a kind and caring soul.
A warm welcome to any new posters I may have missed.
Thinking of our poorly Grans and families, as always.
Have the best day you can everyone 🌹
Good morning all from a beautiful sunny morning here on the east coast of Fife. I’m off today to my local club where I meet lots of friends who just sit and knit the while away. Me I’ll get my nails painted then I’m off home to do some paperwork
Have a good day be good and kind to those less fortunate ❤️
Good morning from a damp Suffolk. Our northern family have gone home after a lovely old fashioned seaside holiday including lots of ice cream and chips!
I have just taken my car into our local garage as the air con recently regassed isn’t working properly. It is probably,I’m informed, a pinprick leak on the pipe going into the condenser( I’m only repeating the words of the service manager!). They will do the service due soon and the MOT whilst they have my car. We’ve used this garage for over 40 years and have always had excellent service.
DH followed in his car so we are going to have breakfast now and a quiet day at home. Hope all have a good day however it is spent.
Good morning everyone from a bright and sunny 🌞 Northampton, but we may.get showers later. No dance classes today as our teacher is having a.break.
Washing done and dried yesterday, towels and a duvet cover; Bolognese put in the.freezer. Waitrose delivery arrived and put more stuff in the freezer.
Booked cinema tickets for a friend and me to see Sense and Sensibility next week.
Off to the shops this morning, then I hope to cut the back grass this afternoon.
Wishing all a pleasant day.
Good morning from Cambridgeshire where is looks a bright day 16 degrees rising to 20 degrees with rain later.
Today I am off to Dgd2’s dance show at midday. She has been doing a Dance workshop every day this week 10 til 1 and they will perform today to show us the dances they have learnt.
The day will otherwise be spent pottering in the house and garden.
Wishing a good day to all
Good morning from a dull northwest coast. Two windows measured up yesterday. One is a bit draughty in the sitting room, so thinking towards winter on that one and the other is just old and needs replacing. I picked up a record player for my DS from one of his favourite shops, a second hand store full of electrical and bike stuff.
I have booked a few days in the Isle of Man, an annual destination with my late DH and will enjoy the steam railway. I’m going as a foot passenger on the steam packet, unlike our car journeys of old.
Today will try and finish my acrylic cloud painting and tonight I meet up for a drink with old soprano friend in the city.
Hope your eye settles down soon madeleine, glad you are putting some weight on Mick and thoughts to all🌺
Good morning everyone from a sunny south Hants.
I’m glad the thunderstorms have moved on because I’m getting the ferry across to Gunwharf to meet up with the U3a World Cuisine group for lunch. I have always loved ferries of all shapes and sizes since I was little. They’re the ultimate short cut and much more romantic than a boring old tunnel.
Hope everyone has the best day possible.
Good morning all and it’s bright and sunny here in Essex.
A busy day yesterday- I was shattered by the evening. DS1 came to put my solar lights up in the garden.. I’m not sure I like them, a bit I over the top. Less is more as they say. Oh well!
Today I’ll try to get Dh to mow our small lawn. He needs the excercise and the family are saying he’s not improving. I’m not sure , sometimes he surprises me but he could do more to help himself 😬. 4months since the stroke. Still early days?
Today we’ll meet our Friday friends for a drink and a chat.
Sar trouble free journey home 🙏
I’ve seen Les Mis 4 times and love it more every time.
Soop 🙏
Take care all 🌼
,
Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 8° and sunny.
I did a lot of walking yesterday and the upshot is, my feet are so painful during the night and today. It's nerve damage and there's nothing I can do about it. However painkillers help. Except I ran out and didn't realise until last night.
Today I'm doing an extra stint of childcare. Dd has a team day and needed someone to look after the boys. We won't be doing much because of my painful feet. Maybe a walk to the green space for football. Their dad will pick them up after work. I'm hoping he finishes early. Have a good day all
Good morning from a sunny NE.
Successful shopping trip and prescription collected, medical supplies delivered too an hour after returning home.
SIL helped me with one or two computer queries I had then we made dinner together.
He is only here in the UK briefly so replacement of technology won't be happening this time.
DIL is coming this afternoon and taking me to see GD2 in a concert, she has been on a drama course all week.
Thoughts are with soop, such a lovely lady.
Good Morning from an overcast, windy Durham, just 19 expected today - cool compared to the 39 we had on holiday, when I’d tramped 7 miles per day!
I slept most of yesterday, hope that’s the jet lag sorted.
Meeting a friend for coffee and a catch up, some fresh food shopping and back home to tackle the holiday laundry, the downside of a lovely week away with DD2.
I hope those GNs dealing with poor health and difficult days for whatever reason begin to feel better/more positive.
Best wishes to all. X
Good morning all from the Scottish Borders. It's dry and still.
I shall do my shift at the store this morning and bake this afternoon.
My 2 new Helpers are due to arrive this afternoon/evening and we'll meet over supper. My friend will join us from Edinburgh.
I made up their beds yesterday.
I am doing an extra shift at open house tomorrow as another volunteer has been taken ill.
I'm glad your garden is peaceful again Kalu
I hope those travelling have easy journeys and those poorly ones are better soon.
Good morning from a brighter Wiltshire. Yesterday the heavens truly opened and we had very heavy rain for the first time in quite a while. Thunder too.
DD2 and SinL were at at a wedding in mid Essex Despite the dire weather warnings it looked like it was largely ok looking at the weatherandradar app.
We took DGD3 and DGS2 to Ask in Marlborough for an early dinner where they behaved fairly atrociously. They did eat quite well though. At home, they were a lot better and slept till 7am which was good. At lunchtime we dropped them off with the other GP’s.
Parcel to collect from Next later then some food items from M&S.
Have a good day everyone.
Good morning all from a cloudy Glasgow, where it is 12°c.
Yesterday was exhausting, BabyD was full of energy and her very strong
and defiant personality manifested itself. 😉.
We spent most of the day in the garden and at one point, she removed all her clothes and was running around naked 😱, consequently I had to cover her in sunscreen!
I gave her a bucket of soapy water and she washed the golf balls DH had bought in the charity shop in Anstruther, DH is convinced, that some of them were ones he and DS had lost, when they played golf there in May!
We had a running commentary of everything she did, singing away and telling us, that she was happy. 💕
However, I didn't manage to plant the things I had bought, I ust wasn't up to it.
Within an hour of phoning the hospital, the call was returned and one of the Rheumatology Sisters was able to enlighten me about the contents of the letter, which had been sent to my GP. She was shocked that I was forced to call, because my surgery had been most unhelpful.
Two issues were revealed, as a result of the recent bloods. At last I have a reason for the persistant mouth ulcers and feeling so low and unwell. I have all the classic symptoms of these conditions.
The RA nurse was very surprised to hear I was pleased to hear the results. I explained that I have been feeling so ill since January, I am relieved to know why.
Getting treatment will be another hurdle to overcome, I have very low expectations of my GP.
I'm off to Sainsbury's, nothing else planned. I'm not feeling great today, so plan too chill.
I was devastated to read of Soops diagnosis, having met both she and her DH.
We have also spoken on the phone, such a lovely lady.
She and Mr Soop, are such a close couple.😪
I wish you all the best possible day.
Morning)g from a sunny S Hants, we had a lovely lot of rain yesterday afternoon, off and on for about three hours with thunder, brilliant.
peli I must have missed it, where is MS please?
So yesterday’s washing, still damp indoors, can now go out this morning before I go to stretch class.
Grocery delivery after lunch, once that’s put away I’ll be planting some spring cabbage.
Pub tonight, meeting friends who’ve been on holiday.
A wave to the poorly people, particularly soop life really does stink sometimes.
🦩🦩
Good morning from the a grey midlands.
Good morning Mick and all GN's on a slightly breezy rather grey morning but with a hint of some sun to come. Of course there must be sun. A very happy Yorkshire day to you all. A pinch and a punch first day of the month, white rabbits white rabbits white rabbits!! Well that should give me a bit of luck for the day!! I definitely am starting the day in a better frame of mind than yesterday!!
So forgive me if I have already sent a post about yesterday, cant remember where I got to but what a day!! I was awake very early, in a lot of pain from my eye, my back, my knees, you name it it hurt!! So to make something of being awake early, I creaked up and got the first lot of washing in. The plan was to get the first lot out on the line drying, the bedding in next, which could wash away whilst I went out for some shopping on the yellow peril . Couldnt drive the car but ok on the buggy. So I slowly and painfully got myself washed dressed and so forth. The washing ended, and I duly shoved it all in a bag to take it to the washing lines, which are at the end of the flats, hidden from view but very well set up. I cant carry stuff down there now, but manage by putting the clothes in a bag, with the peg bag, uncover the buggy, get the key and then drive down to washing line. There I can manoeuve things,. One line tends to hang down a bit more than others, so I can reach up from the buggy and grab the line, put the peg bag onto it, and then faff about and hang as much as possible on that line without having to get off the buggy. So one way and another I manage.
So the second lot of washing put in, and already thinking mentally of what I needed in the shops and the most organised way to do the shopping to give me less pain, I uncovered the buggy, put the washing on it and unplugged the battery and went for the key. It wasnt where I usually put it. In the beginning wasnt too worried and proceeded to look at all the places I might have left it. No luck! Then went through all my pockets in coats and trousers, found a few hankies for the wash but no key. Cant see well of course at the moment. Not meant to bend down, carry heavy stuff, need tot ake care and try to look ahead etc. Not the best state to be hunting a small key on a little band. Well to cut a long story short I couldnt find it and the frustration level was extremely high!
I was stuck, cant drive the car, no buggy , so couldnt hang the washing out or go to town. Eye hurting quite a lot and I kept doing that stupid thing, where you know you have checked already but you keep going back to where it should be. What a flipping day. The weather was sunny and breezy which made it even more annoying. So that was that until Jessie came to the rescue!
She and her mum got here about 3.45pm to find me in rather a bad state, fed up and looking at the general mess that I couldnt do anything about with things on the floor etc. So the first thing they had to do for me was to take the two lots of washing down to the line and hang it all out. Then they started sorting the mess and hurrah hurrah, found the wretched key just near my bed. I couldnt see it in the shadow, but was so grateful to be mobile again. They turned my mattress over, and made my bed with my lovely linen bedding and picked things up and sorted the kitchen, so that I was now sorted out and calmer and more in charge.
So after they had gone and I had had a meal, I then got my shopping bags and bits and pieces, put my jumper on and set off on the buggy. One thing that was a little different is that I had to wear dark glasses , - a la Garbo - as I couldnt risk getting wind or dust in the eye , and bright lights hurt rather. So off to town, no doubt making people think I was quite mad, as I passed by in the dark glasses in the evening. So then into Tesco, again with dark sunglasses in the shop!! One young girl about 6, looked at me and pressed close to her mum and away from me. I said hello, I must look funny with sunglasses on in a shop, but I have had an operation and have to wear the glasses for a while. She then came out from behind mum and had a look at the buggy and I let her ring my bicycle bell that is my warning to people. So hopefully she feels ok round buggies now and doesnt thing I looked like the wicked witch of the west.
So this had been a very exhausting day and I got home totally shattered and just dumped the shopping down for this morning, and got myself ready for bed. What bliss to lie down in my lovely clean bed, with radio 3 to listen to (still cant read yet) So have had , for me, quite a good night and here I am, back to something like organised. I am definitely going to celebrate Yorkshire day by going off to the shops on the yellow peril for bits to make a picnic. Eye still very scratchy but can see properly to drive and will check out my vision on this trip and then all being well I shall have the picnic and coffee things stowed in the car and away to my beloved ~Swaledale. What more fitting place to be today. I shall be like any animal that has been away from their patch, and will be checking out the borders, looking to see what is new or changed. Hopefully I shall meet up with one or two friends from the choir and the villagers I know. Check up on the dates for the Muker show etc etc. A truly yorkshire day and a feeling that I am at last back in charge of ME. So I do hope that I have turned a corner and once the eye has settled down and my back and knees stop complaining of having to lie flat for the operation, I will be back to doing things my way and not need to ask for help!!
If my mother could see me now, she would be telling me that it is very sluttish to leave jobs unfinished , no ironing done etc and go off. Well tough! I dont care, you have to make the most of a decent day, and there is no one else to see the mess I am leaving!! Odd though how you still remember the attitudes years after she has died!
Well good to read all the posts, and have had the wonderful Bach before 7 to listen to and now the important start to the morning of my first wonderful cup of coffee, and the chance to contemplate the day before setting off to the shops. Hope you all have a good and successful day, and join me in enjoying Yorkshire day by playing hookey and just doing something you fancy rather than being sensible GN's and doing what you should do!!
Good morning all from a wet North Leicestershire.
Yesterday was spent organising the upstairs sitting room (aka the playroom) to accommodate the new chairs.
Today, we are taking Wolfie to crazy golf - his latest favourite - no doubt MacDonalds will occur too.
DGD1 is off to a school in Kenya for a couple of weeks and is excited and nervous by turn. DGS4 is off to Devon with family friends and is just excited.
Have the best day possible everyone!
