Good evening, Michael12 and everyone!

I've been doing extra and long work shifts again because of staff shortages, so I've got off today and tomorrow.

I've just watched a film based on a true story from the early 1980s.

''The Coverup'' with Michael Welsh as Kevin Thacker, and Gabriel Mann as his defence lawyer, Stu Pepper. He was 21 when killed and set up by a rogue cop, Officer Dodge, played by Colby French.

Brilliant film, and Kevin may have been having a record for drink driving, but he was basically a good lad; he didn't deserve to be murdered.

As I'm off for two days, I won't be driving anywhere, so I'm sitting here with a great big glass of Delainey's Country Cream!

Good morning from a sunny and warm Kent. My jobs today are all in the garden. So many jobs to do but I'm so thankful I have the opportunity to do them when there are many people in the world who cannot.
The butterflies are out, eyeing up the winter greens. I've planted nasturtiums for them but they still prefer to fly around the netted plants, trying to figure out how to get in.
I've managed to release three butterflies trapped in the greenhouse. Bit of a job trying to get them to crawl onto my finger but when they're exhausted from flying around I think they're happy to be escorted out.

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders. Fine day but cool. My Italian helper finds this Scottish weather freezing which amuses me.

Yesterday I had a surprise invitation to the concert where DGD was in the orchestra. I sat next to her brother so had a good catch up with his doings, having just left school.

The youth orchestra was fabulous. The Greyfriars Kirk packed.

The red arrows flew over the city as I was on my way through the Festival crowds. It was quite a sight and noise!

Today my new lodgers will move in.
I am a little nervous having only met them for 10 minutes when they viewed.

Tomorrow I am having the younger DGC for a few hours. They like gardening and pottery decorating so I will make sure we can do that. They stay with their other DGP and she brings them to me and takes them back for their tea!

I did laugh at your Oscar winning cat Kalu . I remember mine so well.
With her white fur the dark fleas showed up - or was that the eggs.

Poor you Stilllearning 😢 . Are you getting any assistance from RNIB?
They were helpful wuth gadgets and advice when DFiL had macular degeneration.

Me again! I forgot to say that there is a Cruise ship in the harbour - the Carnival Miracle, which has just returned from a trip around the British Isles, I believe. The season is now starting for cruises so I should see a lot of ships over the Summer. I am very lucky here with my view across the harbour, the Straits of Dover and, on a clear day, the cliffs of northern France. It took me a long time to get here - family needs got in the way, but when my wonderful husband died, my daughters persuaded me to move here as I had always loved these apartments. We hadn’t moved here as a family as we wanted a garden for the children when they were young, and my husband loved gardening, so we lived in a village.
Moving here was the absolute right thing for me and has taken my mind off my loss to some extent. I would definitely have gone mad if I had stayed in the village. I like to see things going on!

I slept well despite napping on the sofa yesterday afternoon.
Another lazy day beckons with some reading in the garden.
Message from sister last night to say she was safely home in Germany despite delays on both planes. She has assistance at the airports and apparently they are very efficient.
DS and family are off to Berlin for one week and my friend is in the Lakes.

Good morning from south Glos, were it’s pleasantly cool at the moment.
We had a lovely dog walk yesterday, the fields had been harvested and we watched several red kites drifting around in the thermals, a beautiful sight.
I spent several hours doing coloured pencils work, very relaxing and absorbing.
Today more of the same.

I absolutely love coloured pencils and I am a great fan of Johanna Basford and her work. That girl really knows how to brandish a pencil and I have learned a lot from her.
Today my granddaughter is bringing my great grandson to see me. He is nearly 4 months old and I could eat him! My granddaughter and I are best friends. She calls me her bestie and I love her to bits.
I might tidy the study after that. It’s well overdue a good ‘bottoming’. I am quite a tidy person but I don’t know what happens in there! I put things down instead of putting them awa

hollysteers you have piqued my interest to visit Elizabeth Gaskell’s house (one day). I looked it up and realise I can get the number 15 bus from outside Sainsbury’s to the main Oxford Road at the MRI and just walk round the corner. So do-able. I really would like (one day) to spend more time in our city centre sourcing places of interest on our doorstep. Familiarity does indeed breed contempt! As our Yorkshire Lass once said to me “mum, you do realise people fly in for a city break and all this is so nearby for you to immerse yourself into. You could go in once a week and explore a different area.”

Last night was exhausting at Mass, thousands of £s worth of candles, incense etc to unpack, to start with. Thankfully the young sacristan did the heavy work.
The P,P appeared to find me sniffing the box of Rosa insence, he found it extremely odd!
I adore anything with a rose fragrance and realised the bags, that it was packed in, made ideal, scented nappy bags for Babydoll. I thought that was a genius thought.
I am a recycling fanatic and waste nothing. 😉

I was doing my rounds before Mass and discovered that the blocked toilet had been repaired, it has been a massive job, due to blocked outside drains. It is going to cost a fortune to repair them.
The plumbers had left an awful mess and hadn't cleaned up, I spent half an hour cleaning it, 🤮 but was struggling. I have indescribable fatigue and extremely high pain levels at the moment,
A very good friend of mine, who is eighty years old, spotted me and gave me a hand.
While I went to get disinfectant, despite cleaning materials lying all over the floor, I came back to find someone had used it in my absence!! They would have had to climb over the cleaning materials, to use the facilities.
The P,P was horrified to find me cleaning the toilet and kept apologising he thinks I am a delicate, wee flower , saying he was going get a cleaner to do it.

Today DH will help me strip the bed, I can no longer manage it on my own, oh the joy of clean sheets.
Yesterday, I made a traditional Scottish steak pie for Sunday dinner, DH is delighted, as am I, but not for the same reason.
He loves it and I am happy not to have to cook today! However, I may make some cheat's Eton mess. (meringue nests crumbled up).

There is much tidying in the garden needed, I haven't been well enough, but DH has said if I get out, before the football starts, he will give me a hand. Very considerate of him, to spare some time for his wife.🤣
There is no way, I can lift the compost, to pot my new agapanthus and I would like to rearrange some of the pots.

If I feel up to it, later I plan to go and pick brambles from the field behind our house.

Slow start today. Dd2 and the girls are off to DD3's house so the cousins can interact. DH and I will be emptying the playroom as the carpets are being laid tomorrow. Yippee. Only the lighting to sort now.

Like Madeleine, my sleep was interrupted by cramp and I am not at my brightest this morning, but need to get moving as the service today is in our own church. Afterwards I am going out to lunch with my former next door neighbour and her daughter and son in law. Her dementia makes this hard work and having someone from outside the family circle usually means she behaves a bit better. Not always, though!

Good morning everyone from another bright and sunny 🌞 day in Northampton, a fine day ahead.

Had a nice morning yesterday, met two friends for coffee and toasted tea-cake in the M&S Cafe, then went our separate ways shopping. I then ran into a.couple of ex-colleagues from my teaching days and we had a good catch-up.
Had a browse round Next, tried on a couple of tops, which weren't quite right, then did the rest of my shopping, and got everything that was on my list.

Sat out in the.garden when I got back, and worked my way through the Saturday newspaper and the puzzle pages.

Off out late morning today, and meeting a.friend at the cinema to see 'Sense and Sensibility', the Emma Thomson/Alan Rickman version from about 20 odd years ago. Shall enjoy a nice G and T at the cinema! Will have a browse around the shops afterwards.
Roast chicken for dinner tonight.

Start getting clothes together to take to the caravan, and make a start on loading up the car. We are off to Swanage Monday, so a drive down the M5 to near Burnham where it is stored. Then hitch up and onto Swanage. Weather forecast is looking good

Good morning from an already very warm Suffolk. I’m just enjoying my first cup of tea,always the best of the day and then we’ll take the dog out for her morning walk before it gets too hot. I’ll read your posts when we get back.

Fields around here have now been harrowed and we expect them to be ploughed and drilled very soon. How the farming year is changing.

DS and eldest DGDare visiting later. An essential small screw was missing yesterday so DS,who was sure all were there when he unpacked the outdoor sofa kit yesterday,called in to his local hardware shop to buy a replacement. DGD is moving into her first student house having lived in university accommodation for her first year and she is moving in on Friday for the start of what seems like a very early 2nd year. DGD3 is going with her and staying till Sunday when she will be collected and the remaining ‘stuff’ for DGD1 will be delivered. She’s coming to see us today before she goes.

Good morning everyone from a misty Lancashire. DS is 32 today and is coming over later for homemade lasagne and birthday cake. I had hoped to have lunch in the garden, but the mist will have to burn off.

You're right, GrandMattie, places like your church cafe are needed during the summer months for people who might otherwise feel isolated.
A lot of the toddler groups and baby and child activities close for the summer holiday too. It's understandable because a lot are run by volunteers who have their own children to look after during the holiday, but 6 weeks can seem a long time to a young parent who doesn't have family nearby.

Time to have a shower and decorate DS's cake. Wishing you all the best day possible. 🌻

Yesterday I met up with a dear friend for breakfast at a restaurant which had been closed for repairs for months. The decor is much improved and the menu was too. We had a lovely time catching up. Back home the family arrived. Dsil did all the things I needed doing while dgs1 told me about his latest triumph. He can ride his bike without stabilisers. Dd sent me the video. It was lovely to see them all. They stayed for a coffee but had to go home because dgs2 was being very cheeky to his mum and dad. The boy is fearless. He regretted it though as he lost out on his favourite biscuit which mum had bought 😂Tesco delivered later and it's a lovely east European gentleman who always helps me to empty the boxes. He was telling me about his decorating done last week.
Today I have woken refreshed after a good sleep. Hurray! However you could stir my house with a stick. The plan today is to hang out a washing then get all the remaining rooms washed down. I'll cook something with chicken I think. And that will be my day. Have a good day all.

Good morning all and we’re due for another warm one.

Yesterday Dd, DGD and I enjoyed our day at Lake Meadows with picnic, a walk around the huge lake, feeding the ducks and geese, Ice cream and a good session in the playground . The funfair was there but DGD only wanted to go on the bungy Ijump. She’s getting to old for the inflatables.😢.

We were all shattered when we got home . The heat really takes it out of me. Hotter this week, oh dear! Sorry for those not experiencing this weather. Don’t mean to moan.

Dh and ds1 came home early from footie as Dh wasn’t feeling too good. I think the sun got to him too.

Today we’ll chill out and read the papers and relax.

Good morning from Malta where it is going to ‘feel like’ 40°C today.

I woke at 4am then went back to sleep and now feel more tired than when I went to bed!

Had a busy day yesterday, it’s surprising how long it takes to do a bit of planting, cleaning, steam-mopping etc but it kept me out of mischief.

In the afternoon I walked up to the village to meet my friend and we had a good catch up over coffee. We then sat on a bench by the church until 7pm as it was so lovely by then, still hot but pleasant enough to sit watching the world go by and remarking how lucky we are to live here.

Watched tennis all evening and will do more of the same later on.

I loved reading about your day Madeleine, you have a way with words and I could just imagine the joy of that boat trip singing along with the children. You pack a lot into your days and I know and love all the places you mention. So sorry about the cramp though, it’s agony I know!

How kind of you Ashcombe, I’m sure your hairdresser appreciated your gift. I went into Dunelm with my goddaughter and wanted to change all the decor in my place, they have such lovely things!

I will go to Mass if I’m awake enough, the church has a/c so it ought to be ok. I remember the days of no a/c and everyone flapping fans to try not to pass out from the heat.

Good morning from Glasgow. A calm, dry morning with the sun breaking through promises to be a pleasant day.

We had a delicious meal in town last night for a family outing to celebrate GD1’s birthday. I felt DH’s absence keenly but kept it to myself and not dwell on it and was swept along with the laughter and chat at our table. I will go out at some point today for the cats tick and flea treatment in preparation to perform the major surgery she thinks a drop of liquid at the back of her neck deserves an Oscar winning melt down.

Yesterday gave my car a good clean inside and out. It has its MOT this coming week. Quite a business as I keep so much stuff in it for my various trips, like *madeleine”. My hand held hoover doesn’t seem to last long before it needs recharging…

Today hopefully to Elizabeth Gaskell’s house in Manchester. I say hopefully, as this line is notorious for last minute cancellations and it’s a Sunday. I’m meeting an old friend there and it’s been on my bucket list for a long time.

We all had another enjoyable day yesterday, a trip to the park and a walk around the woods. Today I’ve a facetime call with DS to look forward to, then it’ll be very quiet later as DD1 and family are travelling home to Cambridge. I’ll certainly miss them all but we’ve had such a lovely few days together.
Goodness rather you than me Mizuna but enjoy your time away!
